    - Assign equipment to a task I've searched through several information sources and can't figure this seemingly simple problem out; My project consists of covering up an area with several layers of soil where each layer has its own specifications and volume. To do this, we use hydraulic cranes with a specific production speed per day (m3/d). The layers of soil (fixed work) are the tasks where I assign the specific soil types to (as material resources). Now I'd like to plan my project by assigning cranes with a fixed production rate (and price per day). Logically, by assigning more cranes the project finishes earlier. Problem is that I can't seem to vary the amount of cranes per layer to see what the effect is on the project's finisching date. Only way to find out the duration of the project is to assign a variable consumption rate to the material resource and fix the work. I want to be able to calculate the difference in dates between tasks and show the output in a filed next to the task. For example Task ID 100 - Project Meeting 1/1/07 Taks ID 320 Project update 5/1/7 (Linked through various levels of predecessors to Task 120 not directly linked) So a custom field is required next to the tasks to show that there are 4 days between tasks 100 and 320. I understand that using VB this would not be dynamic, in that the coding would have to state the task id's and would need to be changed for each calculation needed, but this is fine. There are only 3 key milestones that i need to look at for this, so whilst it will not be a well used field, it's content is still worthwhile.     - Feedback about using Project to model Agile iterations I am considering the use of Project to model time boxed Agile Iterations. One of the challenges to this is that Agile is very team oriented. The team has reponsibility for completing several user stories (use-cases) in each iteration. Rigorously, I suppose this is equal to a single bucket task, modeling all the work done on the iteration, and a series of milestones, one for each user story, dependent on the bucket task.     - Actual Cost greater than Planned Cost Hi all, I have one resource assigned to a task. The task duration is 8 hours and the resource costs $12.50/hour with $12.50 for overtime. The Planned Cost is therefore $100. After 8 hours of actual work being applied to this task we see that we need to apply at least 16 more hours of work to complete the task. When we complete 9 hours of work, we should have ACWP equal to $112.50, but instead it is recorded as only $100. Also, the BCWP should be $100. Instead, I have an ACWP equal to $100 and a BCWP equal to $0.00. Am I missing something? Shouldn't these values be $112.50 and $100 respectively?     - Project 2007 Crashes I just installed Project 2007 Professional. I also have Project 2002 and 2003 running on the same machine (I'm a developer and need them for testing). The machine has mostly Office 2003 components, XP SP2. The problem is that Project 2007 crashes every time I close it. Running Office Diagnostics ddid not fix the problem. I've inserted the status column and gotten the following: The status on an unstarted task which is overude is, logically, "late".     - Fixed Costs % Complete Hi Can anyone one help me. I have recently started with a new project company using MS Project 2002. They currently use the fixed cost field to track costs. All work is subcontracted out and there is only a summary fixed cost associated with each work package. The work packages are broken down to task level in the schedule so the project manager can track progress against the tasks. At the moment these task costs are "guesstimated" out of the total fixed cost. This enables the tasks to be rolled up to summary level with a percentage complete. (However this is very time consuming and not very accurate). The standard resource field is not used - a customized text field is used to identify the subcontractors. All time is shown as duration and not work. The problem - we wish to report EV. What we need is to be able to track % complete against the total fixed cost. We dont wish to break the costs down over the individual tasks as this at the moment is really only a guess anyway. Is there any way of customizing cost fields to enable us to report % complete against total fixed cost.     - Cost Field Changes when number are pasted into a Cost_X or Number_X field Simple set up: With MS Project 2007, calculations are set up based on Physical % Complete. Schedule is a cost loaded, baselined schedule. Show (for example) cost1 field set up for summing. Show the baseline cost field and the cost field. Some tasks have a P%Compl > 0 and actual costs....a normally progressing schedule. Copy the Baseline Cost column into the Cost1 field. This will change almost all (but not all) of the Cost field numbers if P%Compl > 0 (and Baseline Cost field does not = Cost field). It does not seem to affect the EAC, BCWS, BCWP, etc. I've been working on this issue on and off for a couple weeks with variable results. I create a small schedule from scratch and can't seem to repeat the problem but have several 'real world' schedules that all exhibit this behavior. I can provide a copy to anyone who might offer help. I showed all the calculating cost_X fields and a couple of number_X fields. Copying and pasting a column of numbers into any of these fields results in the exhibited behavior of changing (most of) the MS Proj "Cost" fields. (Nothing is modified on the cost_X or number_X fields, e.g. none of them is a summing column, etc.) I'm copying and pasting an entire column or part of a column using CNTL C and CNTL V. I did notice that putting the cursor in an individual cell and making it active before pasting a number will allow the paste to take place without changing the "Cost" field. A very quirky piece of S/W at times. But I've got a team of guys doing Earned Value schedules with MS Proj and it seems to be something that no one else in our entire 11,000 employee company has been able to do. In fact, they've all said MS Proj can't do EV Schedules because of too many "bugs". All the 'bugs' have turned out to be operator error....except maybe this one. Also, seems we're the only group that have been able to create genuine EV Schedules for the 70,000 employee company we have the contract with to provide project controls. So figuring this one out would be a welcomed relief....I hope it's just something I'm not quite understanding but ..... Any help is appreciated. Just go in a modify the report (View, Reports, select the appropriate
report, Edit) to use the Baseline1 or Baseline2 or whatever field
you've used for your current Baseline instead of Baseline.
