    - Project Standard 2002 - Setup Question Hardware and Office Pro 97 I'm considering implimenting MS Project Standard 2002 on selected workstations and across my office network. There will be 4 users max on the software at any time. I am planning on purchasing the appropriate number of MS Project Standard 2002 software packs. The workstation enviroments are Win 98 and XP with the appropriate processors and hardware requirements. On the Win98 machines we run Office Pro 97. On the XP machines we run Office Pro 2000. We have an NT Server 4.0 with the service packs, ram and harddrive space as required. These are my concerns: 1) The processor on the server is an AMD Family 6 Model 1553 MHz stepping 2 processor. Will MS Project Standard work on this processor (MS PS wants either a Pentium 75 or 200 MHz or higher processor)? We will not be using MS Project Server software. 2) Will MS Project Standard 2002 operate effectively with Office Pro 97? I'm assuming there will be some limitations due to the 97 vs 2000 restrictions. I do not anticpate a problem, just checking. Thanks in advance. I'm kind of stuck here and anxious to move forward.     - Can I import data from Excel into Project? Can I import data from 1 master Excel Workbook that has multiple sheets? Each sheet is a different ongoing job.     - Need help with resources I have a project schedule that i'm beginning to assign resources to. One of my tasks, a meeting, requires 2 hours of effort from 9 people.     - Where'd my resources go?? Help! I have created a project with all of my tasks and durations entered and linked it to a master schedule. I then created a resource pool file and linked the master schedule to the resource pool. Since I'm doing all of the scheduling in the master schedule I clicked on assign resources and there they were. As soon as I clicked on a task to assign someone to ... there they went.     - Create a "Custom" Field How can I create a custom field that will show the "Projected % Complete" based on the current status date. I want to be able to compare the actual % complete with where it should be. I would also like to be able to show in a custom field the "current complete through date" for a task. This would be very useful in understanding a Late Task. This will be a visual aid for my customers that greatly speeds our project reviews. Your help will be greatly appreciated. I'm looking for a way to show where a % complete should be on the status date. If the task is late, and shows 33% complete, but on the status date it should be 41% complete I want to be able to show that as well as the "Complete Through Date" this will give a visual reference. From what I understand, the latest version of Project is 2003 and I haven't seen anything yet about a newer version coming out. Also, I was looking to attend training and get Microsoft's certification for Project, but have noticed that no certification seems to be available anymore via a class.     - Questions about Project Server Hi everyone, My company is contemplating making the move to MS Project Server and I'm researching whether or not it will be a wise move. We've been trying to implement the standalone PC version for several years now and have been encountering widespread resistance (the staff doesn't want to give up Excel). Our initial thinking was to get everyone up to speed with Project on their computers and then make the jump to a Project Server environment. However, I'm beginning to think we are perhaps hamstringing our efforts by not offering the services that MS Project Server can provide.     - Project Files Missing VBA I have recently seen a couple of MSP files that are getting an error saying that the file is Missing VBA, this shows up when the file is opened or any macros are run. When I open the VBA editor, there is no listing in the Project Explorer frame for the file that has the error.     - Managing One Project with Multiple Sub-Projects The situation: I manage one project that has six different areas that I want to treat as sub-projects - each of the six areas has its own lead or project manager and each needs to manage his/her own schedule. My goal: Each lead gets control over their schedule and resources, and we have a file that we can see the tasks and milestone for each area in one place. So, I am thinking that I have one .mpp that is the Resource Pool, and six individual .mpp's that the leads control, and one Master .mpp with each of the six sub-projects inserted into it. So, the questions: 1. Is the resource pool going to be a problem? If a lead has to open the Resource Pool .mpp every time they want to work on their sub-project .mpp, it basically means that no one else can work on their sub-project until the Resource Pool .mpp is free. Is this correct? 2. Levelling: The leads will level their sub-projects, do I want to level in Master .mpp as well? Does this run the risk of changing their levelling and their plans? 3. Do we all need to level the same way, and set each person's levelling options to be the same and keep it that way?     - Spooler Errors Hi, I have Project 2003 Pro, and a Project Server installation and successfully installed SP2a - I am an administrator. I am still seeing spooler errors on administrative projects. These project updates turn up as Updates (I own them the projects) on my Project Web Access and I accept them, I am then prompted to save the Project File to complete which I do. They then do not go away. I also get a spooler error 0x80040E14. This seems specific to Administrative Projects. Can anyone supply me with some pointers for the resolution of this?     - Adding vertical, task or time driven lines on a Gantt Hello, During our projects there are three or four critical phases after which other tasks commence. While these tasks are linked to milestones, we always end up hand-drawing coloured lines on the printed Gantts to visually show the phases.     - Cannot change start date for a task Hi, Every time I try to change the start date for a particular task, it adds a constraint of Start No Earlier Than but doesn't change the start date.     - Access/Project Interface I'm not familiar with Project. I work in Access, and have been developing my company's database. Now there are some folks who want to use some of the database's information for Project, because it makes prettier reports (for project scheduling) than Access can. And probably it will do more for them than that, so it's a good tool for what they want to do. From what I've been able to glean in this newsgroup, saving Project data into Access on a regular basis seems to work better than saving Access data into project. Is that accurate, or is it an artifact of being in a Project newsgroup? I have a number of reasons I would prefer to go the Access into Project route: I have considerably more expertise in Access than the Project users have in Project--I don't trust what kind of input forms they will come up with, or what timetable they will be on; I would prefer to put in place something that will give them the data and then let them worry about whether they can get Project up and running the way they want to; I think I want to capture some data from the schedule input people that Project people will probably have no use for (e.g. does this person get copies of mail on this project, and if so, what kind). However, I do not want to set something up that is either impossible or drastically cumbersome to implement in terms of the interface. My hope would be that we could find something which would let a person get the data from Access--ideally, a proceedure which could automatically be done at the end of a day or end of a week so that the two systems stayed pretty much in sync with each other. Hi Sally,

Sorry, as far as I know, no. The only alternative I can think of would be
to use a spare number or text field to type the codes you wish to use to
identify the tasks - perhaps some identifier about which project they come
from and then a code.
