How to make a backup of a master project

Hi all,

I have a master project with 4 subprojects. I need to save these files
on a daily basis for example: ProjectName_Date_Versionnumber. Thus
daily the project as well as all the sub projects need to be renamed to
the new version. What I currently do is Copy and paste all the files in
the same directory and then I rename them. The problem with this is
that I find that these backups still refer to the previous version when
I go to either the resource pool (which also need to change) and the
linked projects ?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Matium,

I have a similar situation and what I do is create a new high level
directory with the date embedded in the name. Then I just copy/paste my
"set" of files (resource, master and subprojects) to the version directory
each night.

Working directory: master file, resource file
Backup_111705: master file, resource file
Backup_111805: master file, resource file

To keep it straight in my head I change the high level label inside the
master project after I open it.

This way you do not have to break links in your resource file. It just
automatically changes the links for you.

Thanks for your reply. I do not quite understand what you mean when
saying you change the "high level label inside the master project"

Sorry for the delayed reply, but:

We have 4 levels of subtasks indenting before inserting a subproject, so I
change the label inside MS-Project, not just the file name for "December 4,
2005" to say "Backup of December 4, 2005" after I copy it to another
directory.

Example of our levels in MS-project - December 4, 2005
- Company Projects
- Engineering
Projects
- Customer Name
- Project Name

Where the - sign represents the indent, outdent levels in MS-Project.
