Linking multiple projects
Hi! I need to link certain tasks from multiple projects into a new project.
So basically not the whole project iteself going to a master but slected
tasks from each going to a single project. How do I do this?

Determine if user is connected
Hey everyone,
I was wondering if there is a way in MSP 2002 to use VBA
to see if a user is connected to a server. My program is
supposed automatically publish certain changes to the
project. I already have a few lines of code to do so, but
I would like to check if the user is connected first.

Failure of the Default Cube in Portfolio Analyzer
Hi,
When i install Project 2003, the Default Cube works
properly after configuration.
But when i migrate the database of Project 2002 to the new
server, then it doesn't refreshes the data in the CUBE
tables of the projectserver database of Project 2003
(Though it refreshes the CUBE table before the migration).
Actually, in my Project 2002, the Cube tables were not
getting refreshed that's why i am migrating to Project
2003 but i am facing the same problem after migrating the
database of 2002 to 2003.
Any idea why this problem is still there??
Many thanks in advance.... Tag: local resources vs. resource pool Tag: 69265
Date Range Filter
I'm using 2002 Standard edition and am trying to figure out why tasks outside
my selected date range are showing up when usign the filter. These tasks span
the range eg 1 Aug - 31 Aug, but certainly don't start or finish during
August, which is what I'm looking for.

Timescale Macro
As part of a home-spun earned value approach based on
hours, I need a macro that can calculate the number of
hours (Work) at a task level that should have been worked
(in other words, was scheduled to be worked) during a
particular timeframe - for example, from project start to
current status date. This value then needs to be
populated into a custom number field. I've had issues
with macros dealing with timescaled data in the past, so
figured I would just ask right off the bat if anyone has
suggestions. Tag: local resources vs. resource pool Tag: 69261
Bar Styles - Default settings
I am setting up project and see the options for the bar
styles. I would like to permanently change the default
options to my bar-style choices, so that each new project
file automatically uses the settings I have chosen.
For example, I have changed the marker for a milestone.
Also, I have set the position of the start date and
duration in relationship to the bar itself. I do not
want to have to reenter these choices everytime I do a new
project.
I am sure it must be easy... I just can't find it in the
help screen.

Prj2002: Project more that 20yrs old?
Just for fun, I wanted to do a personal timeline using Project. When I went
to enter my birthday as the first milestone, I was told:
Invalid date.
This is not a valid date, or it is outside the range for dates, which is
janyary 1, 1984 through december 31 2049.
Type the date in the correct format: for example 6/15/00 or June 15, 2000.
Is it possible to change how far back in time a project can start? I poked
around in the help and tools/options and couldn't find the answer.

Calendar and Change Working Time (Use default)
Hi
I set-up the calendar for a default start time at 8:30 AM and default end
time to 4:30 PM.
In the Change working time windows, I was expected the see that values when
'Use default' is set (in the ''Set selected date(s) to'' pan).
Unfortunately, the values still at 8:00 AM and 05:00 PM.
If I modified the values, that set automatically the Nondefault working time.
There is a way to do it or that default value cannot be modified.
I should mention that I'm using the MS-PROJECT 2003 trial version.

Project 2003 - Can I Reference E-mails in Outlook 2003
Firstly my apologies if this is a crazy question, but I have a really
desperate need to achieve the following if at all possible.
I don't think I will explain this terribly well, but have my fingers
crossed.
Lets assume this is one of my tasks spread out over a few hours: Making a
cup of tea.
Put water in kettle-----------Switch on kettle--------------Put milk in
cup-----------------Put tea bags in tea pot--------------and so on.......
I would like to be able to link any or all e-mails that people have sent me
regarding 'Switch on kettle' to the 'Switch on kettle' event in Outlook.
This would enable me to access all e-mails directly from the event on
Outlook rather than trawl through Outlook manually each time.
I hope the above makes sense to someone, and hope that someone will be kind
enough to spare the time to tell me if it can be done and how.
Thank you for looking.

unlink calendar from estimated hours?
How does one unlink the calendar from estimated hours. I
am assigning task to be performed with a certain period

Cost vs. client rates
Hello,
I am using Enterprise Project Server 2003. We have multiple projects and all
the resources base cost is $40 / hr. Each project (about 20 of them)
represent different clients. Therefore, each project standard rate (or
client rate) is different (rates range from $70 - $150). At the end of the
day, our company would like to print off a revenue report (by project or by
client). So we would need to use the different rates for each. I am trying
to figure out how I can do this when using the 'Enterprise resource pool'
where all projects are linked into?? I know there is table rates A-E, but I
am kinda confused how it would work, considering 1 resource could be on
multiple projects.
We would also like to print off a margin report where we compare the base
cost to the actual bill out rates.
Any feedback or guidance would be appreciated.

Implementation of Microsoft Project Server 2003
I am a not a developer but sort of a business analyst trying to find some
best practices on creating project on Project Server with the goal of being
able to manage Dept. resources. Below is a list of questions I currently
have based on my limited use of the project: (Is there anyone willing to
talk me or give me a brief answer to these questions, I'm taking baby steps).
Project Server Questions:
How is your Agency using Project Server (Are you tracking all It Resources
both inhouse or vendor related Projects?
Who acts as Resource Managers
How do you track administrative time for non project related meetings and
time off.
How do you categorize projects (ie, Full Project, Maintenance, Enhancements)
If so what is definition of maintenance and enhancements
Are maintenance and enhancement projects tracked by fiscal year, calendar
year and how much task detail is required.
What detail is provide for enhancement/maintenance projects
When a vendor is hired to create a new application or modify an application,
who manages the Project? How do you account for vendor related activities
and internal resource activities?
Do you have specific documents or templates staff should use for Project
management
Where are these documents stored? Within the workspace on the project
server within the public documents section, in sharepoint outside of project
server or somewhere else?
Do you have any lessons learned (what would you do differently)
Project Procedures/PMO related Questions:
Do you have procedures
Do you have a PMO Office
What type of staff comprises the PMO Office
What are the duties and responsibilities of the PMO Office
Who does the PMO Office Report too
Do you have any lessons learned (what would you do differently) Tag: local resources vs. resource pool Tag: 69204
Renamed and relinked file shows old name
I am using a master resource pool and creating ad-hoc
project files to get a better look at all the projects at
one time. I either create the file when I open the
resource pool or use the open option from the shared
resources dialog.
I renamed two projects to better represent the working
names of the projects, however the original name shows up
as the title of the embeded project. I did break the link
and relink the project before renaming the file so the
name in the shared resourced summary shows the correct,
renamed file.
I updated the project properties summary in an effort to
correct the issue with no change.
The project name is correct in the project field when
exported. Where am I missing this change.

Cannot enter actuals in Web Access
Hello,
We are trying to implement EPMS and so I have added a project to the project
server 2003 (EPMSimplement.mpp). I have been configuring the settings within
EPMS. One problem that I am having is that we cannot enter in 'Actuals' in
timesheet view. We can only adjust the % complete, and remaining work
columns. I have been adjusting the setting within the "Customize Probject
Web Access" within the Admin center. I have tried all options, including the
'Managed Periods' option where you open reporting periods. Nothing seems to
work with this project. This project file was added to project server when
the project was 50% complete. So there are no actuals added for the first
half of the tasks. Would this have something to do with my problem? Does
anyone have any options that I can try to hopefully resolve?
I have added a few other 'dummy' projects, and we can enter 'actuals' to the
tasks from these projects.

Archiving projects in Project Server
Has anyone come up with a way of archiving old
(completed) projects in Project Server. Specifically we
would like to keep all projects (active and completed) in
the Project Server database but remove the completed
projects from ALL Project Web views... Seems logical..
By exception we would open a few Project web views to
access the old projects. Arhh.. You say.. Place filters
on the Web Views. Get real that's many, many views and
even then you cannot filter out completed projects from
the Resource Availability views where we have the most
annonying situation of all those old projects (with
coloured ledgends) being displayed.
Simple request... Some way of retaining the old projects
in the database for reference purposes but automatic
removal from all Web views once projects are completed.

Change to Project 2003 Resource Availability View
At the 11th hour of our Project 2002 to 2003 upgrade we
have found a small change to the Project Web 'View
Resource Availability" page that has significant
implications to our Resource Planning process.
In Project 2002 Web we would select multiple resources
(usually a team) and use the 'View Resource Availablity"
page and "Remaining Availability" view in order to
identify overallocated resources... This is quite easy as
overallocated resources would display with NEGATIVE
Remaining Availaibilty...
In Project 2003 this view (graph) NO LONGER SHOWS
NEGATIVE Remaining Availability on its "y" axis,
negatives are show as zero, therefore no longer showing
you over allocated resources..
Am I missing something here... Tag: local resources vs. resource pool Tag: 69194

Resource Over Allocation
I'm using Project 2000. I am needing to identify by resource group any overallocations. Based on the nature of the projects it appears the easiest way to do this is to assign by groups not individuals. My thought process is to make resources such as Engineering, Testing, QC, etc. I have a couple of questions regarding this approach:
1. Would I change the max unit % in the Resource Sheet to correspond with the number of individuals in the Group. Such as if there are 10 Engineers the max unit % would be 1,000?
2. Is there a way then to show the amount of hours not tasked for the day/week?
