Hi,

My manager has been trying to create a project plan in Project Pro 2007.
When he levels a plan with a resource's max units at a 100% it seems to work
"fine" altought we have found some weird things going on... when we change a
resource's max units to 80% and set to "leveling can adjust individual
assignments on a task" and click on "level now" it takes about 3 minutes to
do the leveling, and pushes the project plan to end in 2049... this is weird
as our project plan is only less than 1,000 hours and we've done this before
with 2003 and didn't have these issues... has anyone seen similar patterns
or strange behavior in Project 2003? Are there any knowng bugs with
leveling?

Thanks,
Michael

Hi,

This is not a bug, not at all.

Leveling wil never, never, change allocation units.
So when you ask project to schedule a resource 100% (be it 60 secs per
minute) and you tell it the resource is only available for 80% (be it 48
secs per minute) it will try to level as ususal, that is by delaying tasks,
but that won't work because the problem remains even if it delays one of the
tasks by ages.

This being said, normally it will skip these tasks and leave the
overallocation and not push it into 2049. That happened often in Project
2000 but I haven't seen it in newer versions. Could you send me the file
please, I am very curious about what exactly causes this in 2007 (jandemesAT

Thanks ahead

Michael:

This would indicate that you have at least one scheduling impossibility in
your project. I'm not aware of any bugs in this process in 2003. Hasn't
changed much in many years.
