    - Preventing spread allocations When I have multiple tasks occurring on the same day I've noticed that project tends to stretch both of them out over the entire length of the day rather than filling out the first contiguous time slots. This can make it very hard when trying to manually adjust daily assignments without leveling since each time slot that has a value allocated to it needs to be edited. Is there a way to change this behavior so that assignments will preferentially fill up the first available time slots? e.g. - If I had two tasks for 4 hours each on the same day I'd like Project to schedule one for 8-12 and once for 1-5 rather than have both scheduled at .25hrs per 15 minutes throughout the whole day.     - How do I read the Start and End Time of a Day Can anyone help me with this problem: I would like to read the start time and the finish time of a given day from a resource calendar using VBA. For example, if on the 30/9/2006 the working time started at 7:00 am and finished at 5:00pm, then I would like to read 7:00am as start and 5:00pm as end time for this day.     - HOWTO have tasks without wbs code Hi all, I have a schedule where in the top lines I keep the contract award and program milestones with deadlines dates. These tasks are linked (with SS relationships) to the corresponding review activity in the network schedule. This way I can see if I have a problem in meeting customer predefined dates for the milestones without setting constraint dates (that could spoil the Critical Path).     - Text 1 not visible in other views Hello all, I have what I hope is a simple question. In the Task Sheet view I have created a column to track sales order numbers of new jobs, using text 1. When I switch to the resourse useage sheet view and attempt to insert the Text 1 column, no data appears in the column. I assumed that Text 1 was always the same value regardless of the sheet it is being viewed in.     - Word document opens as "reading layout" and comes up as read only Hi, I have 2 problems I am hoping to get resolved: 1. I am trying to fighure out how to change the default layout of word documents that open with the project server 2003 document library for any project. I have gone to the "Customize Shared Documents", and attempted to edit the template. It saves like the system took it, but when I open another document, it shows up with the reading layout again. 2. Everytime I save a document and open it up again, it comes up as read only. Yet I can still modify it. I did some searching and found some people suggested that the file may be checked out by another person. So I created a new document and was confronted with same problem again. I am the administrator and have full access. I made sure the documents were not read only, and had no restrictions before I uploaded them. Any help would be appreciated...     - Overallocation on 8 hour days I've been having a problem where certain resource appear to be overallocated on days for which they are scheduled for the full amount of their working hours. I've checked their work schedule setup from the resources screen and even though they have 8 working hours in a day if they're assigned more than, let's just say 6 hours, they appear as overallocated on the Resource Graph.     - Export to Excel I am new to MS Project. I have set up a project that has a number or summary tasks each with a set of sub-tasks. Some of the sub-tasks also have sub tasks. What I want to be able to do is export tasks to Excel creating a sheet that enables me to easily sum the number of 'work units' involved in the project ie Main 1 5 days Sub 1 1 day Sub 2 4 days Sub 2 Sub 1 1 day Sub 2 Sub 2 3 days In Project it is obvious that the duration for Main 1 is the sum of the times for Sub 1 & Sub 2 (which in turn is the sum of Sub 2 Sub 1 & Sub 2 Sub 2). However, when this gets exported to Excel I get the following WBS Name Duration 1 Main 1 5 days 1.1 Sub 1 1 day 1.2 Sub 2 4 days 1.2.1 Sub 2 Sub 1 1 day 1.2.2 Sub 2 Sub 2 3 days This format makes it 'impossible' to derive the total amount of work for project, Is there any way to isolate the figures that are actually for work and not for summaries while still keeping the summaries in the sheet for clarity?     - Updating Status/Splitting Tasks Once I update the status of my project I need to upload it to Deltek Cobra (EVM reporting tool) to get the Earned Value metrics. Cobra requires that all tasks that are scheduled around the status date be completed before the status date - so they either have to be 100% complete or the task has to be split so that one part ends before the status date and the remaining part starts after the status date.     - I want to launch MS Project to open a file, run a macro then close I need to automate the collection of metric data from multiple MS Project files. For each MPP file, I want to launch MS Project, run a macro to save my data, then close. So far, I have been able to call up Project with a command like the following "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office2003\OFFICE11\WINPROJ.EXE" -"E:\Documents\Metrics\MyProject.mpp" I have no idea how to pass in a parameter to get the macro run.     - Back Space and deleting not working properly in word When I highlight some text and hit the backspace key in Microsoft Office Word 2003 rather then deleting the selected text the courser just moves to the space immediately before the selected test and the text becomes unselected. Also when I highlight text and then begin typing, rather then replacing the highlighted text with what I'm typing it does the same thing as above then adds my new typings before the previously selected text.     - Changing resource calendar with a 24 hour project calendar We have a project that is set up with a 24 hour calendar and resources that are allocated either to a 24 hour or a 12 hour calendar. If we change a task with a 24 hour resource calendar to a 12 hour resource calendar, the task still showed as the resource working through the night as if they were on the 24 hr calendar.     - Classes of days of week issue We are creating a monstor of a plan that has multiple departments and ALL company projects and activities -- we are using the durations only NOT resourcing at this time. However, I am curious as to how to show some training activities at the company. For example, if we have 7 classes that are over a 7 week period and occupy one day a week. I have it setup under the umbrella task of training, then seven tasks that say training1,2,3,4,etc. and the duration is one week, BUT it is really only one day, but offered weekly.     - Can't split task I have a schedule with custom fields. I enter a start date into Start1. I then calculate the duration1 field based on info in two other fields, (units per day / # of days) and calculate Finish1. My Gantt bars are set up to display these fields and it works fine. What I cannot do is right click on the task bar to split the task. It appears to work as I try to drag the split to where I want it but when I try and drop the split where I want it nothing happens.     - Change to MS Project needed I created a large project, I needed to change an end date. My start date needs to stay where it is. I get a selection box that says I have choices to make, remove the must start on constraint or cancle the operation etc. If I select help the help button the box that pops up is for a constarined finsih date. The program help is crosswired. I need to be able to change the end dates as the project changes, if we are behind schedule I need to be able to show it.     - Struggling to get Project Data into Excel using OLE DB I have created a data source (an ODC File) using the wizards in Excel with Project OLEDB. The Test connection button works and when I open the file in Internet Explorer, Office Web Components allows me to create a PivotTable of the data.     - Custom Toolbars, Global.mpt and the Global Enterprise Template Problem: Custom Toolbar reappears after deleting using organizer. Background: We have two Project Server environments, Test and Production. I developed a macro for a custom toolbar and made it part of global.mpt, my local global template. When ready to test and deploy in the Test environment, I copied it to the TEST Global Enterprise Template (GET) using the organizer as described here and elsewhere. I later deleted the custom toolbar and macros from the TEST GET, but it reappeared when I re-opened Project Pro. I deleted the custom toolbar again using the organizer, but it would reappear in the next session. I opened Project Pro in local mode (offline), deleted the toolbar again and it was gone for all subsequent sessions. Good! It was gone from TEST environment, too! However â?? argghhh! -- it reappeared when connecting to the PROD Project Server environment. It was never copied into the PROD GET. It does not appear in either TEST GET nor PROD GET organizer, nor in the global.mpt when in local mode. Is there a cache copy to delete somewhere? Does Project Pro combine the global.mpt and the GET into a cache that is subsequently loaded into Project Pro? BTW, a co-worker can not permanently delete the custom toolbar at all except when in local mode.     - How do I get a summary of how many people (i.e. resources) I need OK this must be simple - I cant believe that such a complex bit of software cant do this.
