Cost Estimate for Resources and Hours
I'm a newbie, but I've looked around and can't find the answer.
I would like to build a WBS with hours by task and subtask which are
totaled. Also, the hours by resource are totaled and multiplied by the
hourly cost of the resource. Any ideas?

Replacing Resource Assignments
Need some ideas on best practices for reassigning resources.
Scenario:
Plan has been created, resources assigned, baselined and published.
Then for whatever reason, some of the assignments need to be changed to a
different resource. Not ALL assignments need to be changed so the Build Team
From Enterpise & Replace feature is not a viable option.
My method for changing assignments has always been to assign the new
resource to the task without rebaselining. I assign work but don't rebaseline
so baseline work=0 for new resource. Then I ask the original resource to
simply zero out the remaining work or reject the tasks they are no longer
going to work on. The problem with this method now is that we are using
baseline work as a factor in our availability reports so if i don't
rebaseline the task (NOT a best practice in my book), the data in the
availability reports won't show up correctly.
If I simply replace the original named resource with the new resource and
republish the assignment, the original task stays on the user's PWA timesheet
with an X next to it... and I'm not quite sure what happens if they had
actual work against that task. For the sake of reporting availability
accurately, if the actual work stays in the plan, simply replacing the
resource may be the best method... In which case I'll just have to do lots of
training on how and when to use the "hide" button to get rid of those deleted
assignments.

Alternative View to a Schedule - Need Help!
All,
Is there a way to write a macro to take the identified Milestones listed
below a summary task in a schedule, Create Columns labeled/titled with those
same Milestones and fill in the corrosponding Finish Dates? This particular
schedule has underneath each Summary Task the same Milestones/subtasks,
basically everything is duplicated.
My bosses boss has requested this kind of view. I know many will say just
create an Excel Spreadsheet but, we want to do this view in Project and it
seems it would be faster if a macro where created.
If anyone out there thinks they can help and need to see the Schedule, I

Visual Earned Value Over Time Report
I'm working in MS Project 2007 and the service pack is installed.
When I try to generate an earned value over time report by going to
reports/visual reports/excel/earned value over time report/view, then
clicking on Assignment Usage with EV tab, I am receiving 0 values.
If I double click the Q2 it will drop down the weeks. If I double click the
items listed under type in the Pivot table field list, the
only value showing is under costs.
How do you get the values to read under the planned, earned and actuals

Organizer
I have a simple question concerning the Organizer. What items are stored in
the .mpp file and which are stored in the global by default. It seem that
map data is saved the global and all others are saved to the individual

What is the word on running both of these from the same machine?
There is no way around it (2 different customers with 2 different versions
on existing programs).

Hammock Task Link Question
I am using a hammock task to pull information from a task to the top of the
schedule to satisfy some requirement. My question is when I select the cell
and go to edit/Link change source the following is displayed:
Path\filename.mpp!LINK_4. My question is what does !LINK_4 mean? I
inserted another hammock and dynamically linked it and it displays the same
thing with !LINK_6 on the end.
Any ideas? I am using MSOP 2007.

Task calendar different than the Base calendar
I am currently working a large plan for multiple sites. The Base calendar is
the normal 8 to 5 M-F with weekends off. I have one task the long pole which
is 120 days lead time but the days are consectutive. The 120 day task has
constraints within the normal plan. I'm having trouble getting the 120 day
task to be 120 days because of the constraints to the normal calendar. How
do I fix this??

Resource Pooling and client rates
I'm trying to figure out how to solve an issue I have, and it's not
overly apparent to me.
Basically, I want to link many projects to a shared resource pool so
that I have a single point of entry for holidays, working hours etc
(we're a web development agency). This is so we can track resource
usage, and scheduling around holidays etc. This is all working fine.
However, I would like to set different rates for resource on different
projects. ie Person A might cost $300 to Client A, versus $500 for
Client B.
How can I set this up? Is it possible?

How to check in Enterprise Resource Pool
Hi,
While having the Enterprise Resource Pool checked out (for adding new
resources to the pool), MS Project 2003 Pro crashed.
When restarting MS Project 2003 Pro, the Enterprise Resource Pool remained
checked out to my user account. However, I cannot add any resources to it.
How can I force a check in to the Enterprise Resource Pool?

bug in ms project 2003 resources utilisation summary report?
I set up a recurring task for one hour per every day.
On the resources reports the resource which the task is assigned still has 7
hours per day utilisation, even it is the only task assigned to it.
Is there a bug in calculation, or am I missing somthing here?

Actual Cost Changes
Hi,
Scenario:
I have a task A which is 100%.
This task has resource Adam assigned to it. Adam is also assigned to few
other incomplete tasks as well.
When I change the standard rate for Adam, task A actual cost also changes
even though its already 100% complete..
Is there a way to keep previous cost when increasing a rate for a resource?
My understanding is that actuals do not change.

showing a milestone in a summary bar
Hi - i am trying to do something very simple!! - i would like to show a
milestone in a summary bar.
the summary consists of 5 linked tasks the 3rd is a milestone. I have
selected the summary line and gone to Project/Task Information/General tab.
and checked the "show rolled up Gantt bars" I did the same for the ID the
milestone is on - nothing has changed - i then thought if i changed the bar
style for the milestone to include "rolled up" that would help but this just
hid the milestone from inside the task.

I'm trying to customize a field on project level=85
The field have to show if a project has been updated or not o the last
14 days=85
I=92m using Project Server 2003, Project Professional 2003 and PWA 2003.
Here you are the step that I have followed:
1) Opened Project Professional 2003
2) Opened Enterprise Global (Tool -> Enterprise Options -> Open
Enterprise Global)
3) Opened Enterprise Fields (Tool -> Customise -> Enterprise Fields=85)
4) Selected =93Project=94
5) Selected =93Text=94
6) Inserted the following formula: IIf(DateDiff("d",[Last Update],
[Current Date])>=3D14,"Update Required","Current")
The problem is that the Project Fields Seems not to be updated=85.
On the PWA view, for example, there is the following information:
Project Test
Last Modified: 30/04/2008
Last Published: 30/04/2008
Custom Field: Updated Required
But today is the 8th of May, so it have to be =93Current=94!!!
I have check also on the Project Information (in Project Professional,
Project -> Project Information=85), and unfortunately, the custom field
value is =93Updated Required=94=85
What=92s wrong??
Where can I check =93Last Modified Date=94, =93Last Update Date=94 and =93La=

I have a GANTT chart that shows multiple projects within a programme.
Some of the projects have common tasks such as 'admin' or 'research' and I
want to sort/print/view the chart showing only specific types of work. For

MS Project 2007 Won't run
I've tried several times to install Project Pro 2007 on Vista Ultimate. The
install says it completed, but when I try to run it, the program goes into
this loop where it's configuring, then the splash screen appears, and then it
configures again, and finally says it couldn't configure because there isn't
enough memory. I have 2 gigs of Ram, 28 gigs of HD space and nothing else is
running except bloated Vista.
Any ideas? Everything else in Office installed and runs fine, including
Visio.

"Show" on toolbar in Resource Usage view, dropdowns not available
When in the Resource Usage view (Filter: Resource-Work, Table: Work, Group

Project 2003 file to XML for RSS feed use
Hi,
We have someone who has developed a calendar of events using Project 2003.
We want to be able to make this into an XML file that can be read by an RSS
feed reader. We successfully saved as XML but when we put it through the
reader we get a message saying there are no items to display. We are using
the feed reader called KlipFolio. I have also tried to open it in Internet
Explorer and it just shows all the code. If you can help please let me know
or if anyone out there has successfully made a Project into an RSS feed I
would like to hear how you accomplished it.

Unknow error about resources
We were trying to Edit the resource Bety but we couldnâ??t. The following
errors were showed:
In the Manage Userâ??s and in the Central Resources screens:
Unknown error: Solve the problems with Windows SharePoint Services.
As we couldn´t edit the resource, we checked it out (I don´t remember how)
then we tried to delete it but it wasn´t allowed: â??The resources could not be
excluded because some of them are checked-outâ??.
Then weâ??ve tried to check it back in but the resource wasnâ??t showed in the
list "Force Check-in..."
How can I solve this problem? I´ve already looked up in the
http://support.microsoft.com and this is what I've found:
â??An enterprise resource is checked out by a system process such as the
Active Directory Resource Pool Synchronization(example), and the resource is
not correctly checked back in. When this occurs, the resource does not appear
on the Force Check-in Enterprise Objects page. This condition makes it
impossible to check in the resource from Project Web Access.â??

Conditional headers
Hi,
A bit of a long shot I suspect, but, I want the header to change dependant
on which filter is used for a report. So if the report is about civil work
then I want the Civil engineer's name to show in the header etc. I have the
names against the activities but since they change from one activity to the
next, then simply adding in that field does not seem to return the name in
the header. I suspect it is because the header does not know which of the
many values in the field to return. Any ideas to have a IIF([Text1]="Civil',
"Joe B loggs,"") in the header?

Need syntax to link ghost tasks
I am trying to link tasks in two separate projects, both saved and published
to Project Server. I am using Project Professional 2007.
The instructions in MS Project Inside Out say to type,
"<>\[projectname].mpp.published\[tasknumber]" or
"<>\[projectname].mpp.published1\[tasknumber]" (depending upon the enterprise
version control protocol?) into the ID field of the Task Information window
in the Predecessors tab.
I have tried every variation of this that I can think of, with no success.
Does anyone know how to link tasks between two separate projects?

Newbie to Project and forums need help
Hello, I am new to the forums and only recently started using MS Projec
2003.
I am wondering how I would go about the following:
First a bit of history, we track our projects from a single date thi
date really is not a start or a finish but more of a work date.
When we do this we go forwards and backwards in time by using + and

Example say our project is supposed to start on 1 Jan 08, before tha
can start we must start a test plan and many other steps.
So our Finish date (for lack of better things to call it) is 1 Jan 0
our Test plan is built - 120 days so that would be 1 Sep 07. Likewis
we do a report that is due + 90 days so that would be 1 Apr 08.
How would I use this as a formula to calculate the dates these need t
start for me.
I envision a task sheet with fields labled
Task Name Duration Lag/Lead Start Date Finish Date
Where Duration would be typed in and lead to a finish date based on th
Lag/Lead column inputting to the Start date
Example
Task Name
Test Plan 20d -120d (calculated Finish dat
-120d = 1 Sep 07) 21 Sep 07
Any ideas on how to build the formula and put it into a column?

How can I change the height of a task as it is shown in MSP?
I recently changed the height of a task in an MS Project plan so it would
wrap the task name in a view of a Gantt chart. For some reason, the grey
block to the left of all tasks became clear, and I am no longer able to
select a task to make it regular height again.
Suggestions as to why this might have occurred?

I have used the Baseline and Baseline 1 fields in my schedule. However,
there is only a cost spread for the regular work and baseline work.

Remaining work not = sum of future time phased work
The remaining work for a task or a rollup does not equal the sum of the
future work in the time phased grid. After statusing a task (or the entire
project), we use the Update Project function to push the remaining work after
the status date. The status date does not fall on the calendar month end but
rather on a Friday of the fiscal month. The result is that the sum of the
weekly time phased work does not equal the Remaining Work total that is
displayed in the Task Remaining Work column. This means that the sum of the
