    - Consolidating Projects / Resources In MS Project 2000 I am trying to consolidate two projects which use resources from the same resource pool (via Tools, Resources, Share Resources, Use Resources from). When I insert the project files in a third one, the consolidating file, I can see workload per resource and the origin of the load, i.e. the project name and the task ID. But, this only works when the project files use the same resource pool file. Because the project files were created on separate, not network connected PC's, there is not one resource pool files, but two. In that case the consolidating project file does not add up the load per resource name but keeps them separate. In the help files / Office Assistance on Internet in 'remove duplicate resources when consolidating projects' it is explained how you can eliminate the duplicate resource names, i.e. unlinking the subprojects from their source file. This works, but has the disadvantage that all tasks lose the connection to the original project file. The result is that the load per resource is correct and the tasks that cause the load are visible in the resource views. But not visible is to which project each task belongs (all tasks now belong to the consolidating project). Is there a solution for this, i.e. merging the resource pool files of the separate projects, adding a project ID to each task that ìs visible in the resource views, or otherwise?     - Manually allocating time over several months Hi, As part of some resource plannig we're doing, I'd like to be able to manually allocate effort to resources over the following few months. For example, ResourceA will have 21 days assigned to TaskA, and I want him to be assigned for 5 days in the first month, 4 days in the second month, 10 days in the third month and 2 days in the fourth month. I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this in Project, alothugh I recall being able to do this in ABT's (now Niku's) PMW/Workbench. Thanks in advance for any help!     - Subprojects Hello, I am using MS PROJ 03 and MS PROJ SERVER 03. I am trying to setup an "Installation Project". This will easily allow my Installation manager the ability to schedule our two installation people from one place. I would like those assignments and the work and actual work to appear in the actuall customer project that it is applicable. Is there anyway to accomplish this?     - "Automatic" Calculations I'm using MSP 2003 Server. I'm created a custom field that can be used in the PWA project center to display whether or not a project needs to be published (i.e. has any task(s) where the Update Needed flag is set to "yes"). To do this, I did the following: Created a field called [Tasks Not Published] using [Enterprise Flag2]. The formula simply makes this field = [Update Needed] and then uses an "OR" in the rollup to get any "Yes" to rollup to the project/summary level. Created another field called [Published] using Enterprise Project Text8 with the formula ... IIf([Tasks Not Published],"No","Yes")). The above works fine except for one thing. In order to get it to do the calculation, I have to open each project and manually calculate. The problem starts with the OR in the [Tasks Not Published] field. For example, I move a task so that the [Update Needed] flag changes to yes for that task. At that point, the [Tasks Not Published] field for that tasks immediately changes to "Yes"; however, the OR is not automatically calculated, so the "Yes" does not roll up. If I manually calculate, the OR kicks in and the Yes rolls up. I have the calculation options set to Automatic for All Open Projects. So what does that mean? It doesn't really automatically calculate all open projects? If it does, what is it "automatically calculating"? I thought that maybe it didn't recalculate until you saved it and/or only when the project is opened, but it doesn't work either way. I'm having this same issue with other custom fields I've created.     - Exporting Time-phased data Hi, In the Task Usage view, the right pane shows cost, work, % complete, etc. but the only way I've found to 'export' this data is by copying and pasting the two panes (the left pane with the task rows, and the right pane with the time-phased data) into Excel.     - Enterprise Resources HELP! I recently imported a select number of resources from a project into the enterprise resource pool. This action made the balance of my resource non-viewable as enterprise resources - even when startin a new blank project I could not see my users using Build team from server. To UNDO the situation I used the Clean Up Project server.. and deleted the imported resources. This did not solve the problem. I still see no resources from PWS when I attempt to build team from PS. I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact I have a default set to administrator for Project server when I launch Project Office 2003. Does this affect the view to the enterprise? I don't see how but thought I would ask. Note: I am a user in PWS with administrator rights. I needed to set the project server accounts to Administrator in order to edit the global template. All I really want to do is get back to the state I was in prior to the Import of enterprise resources. There are only 15 users in PWS and it is not currently in use. What do you suggest I do?     - Installation question about location of Analysis Services/DSO Ok, I'm currently working on a project to install Project Server 2003 leaning more to a medium scale roadmap. I have only preformed small scale installs in the past having all services web and database on one server. Currently I have SQL 2000 Analysis Services/DSO, Project Server Front-End Service, and View Processing Services (everything but the sql ps database and sharepoint database) on one server. ServerX On ServerY I have SQL 2000 Server installed with Project Server database, SharePoint Content, and SharePoint Configuration databses installed. I'm now at chapter 8 Post installation task Page 130 in the Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 installation Guide. Section Migrate the Analysis Services Repository to a SQL Server Database. Question: I need to migrate the repository from ServerX where Analysis Services/DBO is installed to ServerY where SQL 2000 Databse is installed. There is no Analysis Services on ServerY with NO OLAP administrators group. The only OLAP group is on ServerX where all of the IIS services are installed. But the OLAP admin groups needs to be DB_OWNER for the repository. So, do I need to install all SQL Server services Analysis Services, DSO, and databases on ServerY to make this work?     - Copying Environments to other users I am attempting to prepare our Department to use MS Project. I need an environment with everyone having access to several custom macros, tables and views as well as starting with the same Option settings. I copied the Global.mpt with all those objects and settings to a common network folder. To test it, I copied that Global.mpt to another person's PC (we have MS Project installed on each person's PC - no Enterprise version). When I opened project on their machine, it indeed showed the macros, tables and views as desired, but NONE of the option settings came through. Are these not kept on Global?     - Remove a task from the critical path How can you remove a task from the critical path? I have a hammock task that moves with the end date, but its not critical. It moves with the end date because its a support task that needs to keep going as long as the project is going.     - Scheduling with a deadline while behind schedule Here is my problem: I'm currently scheduling so that production ends on the deadline however we are behind schedule. When I update the schedule to move all of the late tasks to the current date it just piles them up on that date with no regard for predecessors. I realize the problem is that I'm scheduling with conflicting constraints but is there some way to resolve this?     - Managing Consultants I'd like to set up consulting assignments as tasks in my project. I'd like to be able to record invoice amounts against the contract value. This does not need to take the place of the % completion calculation, but rather, provide a method to summarize the actual costs to date. Example: Hire an architect to design a building.     - Excel VBA to create and populate a MS Project file What i have now is a Project file with "links" that whenever a change is made to the outlook file, it's reflected in the Project file, but it's not working out exactly how we'd like it to. I am unable to remove the links using a macro/VBA in excel (Where all of the operations are running from) so the file always asks if one would like to update the linked information whenever changes happen in the Excel file, which is not what we want. Once exported, the Project file should become static. A Project file that has all of the information that was displayed in the above table at the time of running the macro, but will not change or ask to be updated. Of course there probably are other ways to do this better, like Projects mapping feature to open an exported XLS file or possibly just simple copy/pasting within the macro, but i can't for the life of me figure my way around the syntax and funtionality of controlling Project from Excel. I'm going to try and summerise just to be clear. 1) Data in excel populates the a table with info for the tasks, start/end dates and resources of a specific project. 2) A button labelled "Export to MS Project" is clicked in the Excel file. 3) A series of VBA steps end with a MS Project file saved and closed which contains all of the Task Names (5 to 10 of them), Start and end dates, and resources from the excel file.     - Slip task I understand how to split a task, but here is my problem: Task Start date of 4/11/05 - Finish date of 5/24/05 (20 days duration) There was a interrupt to ONLY this task that delayed the task from starting/finishing on time, the delay started on 4/11/05 resume work on 4/28/05 (duration 13 days). Instead of an interrupt to the calendar (cause this will effect all of my task) I split the task - I can't get the split to start on that day, it wants to start on the 4/12. When we choose the date format w5/1, MP shows dates in this new format, but the problem is that the week showed might not be the one we need.     - Resource usage and graph I have a project which has the working time calendar set to 6 hours of productive labor a day. That leaves 2 hours for meetings, and other not project related activities. For one resource the "Resource Usage" for a given day shows 6 hours, in red, and the "Resource Graph" shows 200%. I don't get it. I can see how there may be a calculation rounding issue and it would allocate e.g., 101%, but not 200% unless it assumes that resources only come in integral increments. After changing individual row heights in Project Pro 2003 and saving, I
reopen the file only to find that the row adjustments have not been
maintained.

Is there a way to maintain the custom heights of individual rows?
