Macros I have recorded so far have been recorded to go through the whole process of applying the filter to show only tasks using one resource, selecting the resource from the drop-down in the options box, and clicking ok.     - Opening a project from command line, from Project Server Hi All, A bit of an odd question I'm afraid. I've found that I can open a project, from project server, using the following from the command line: winproj.exe "<>\ProjectName.published" I'm wondering if I can open a project though using the Project ID rather than the name. I've tried (assuming the project Id is 112 for example): winproj.exe "<>\112" winproj.exe "<>112 winproj.exe "<>projectid=112" and a bunch of other permutations, with no success.     - Running multiple projects with MS Project I am new to Project, and am using 2003. Our construction company typically runs 10 to 15 projects at a time, running +/- 6 months. This is probably pretty basic, but I have been unable to figure it out on my own .... Should we be developing individual "files" for each project, and somehow linking them together, or should we run one "master" schedule, and either build the unique schedules and/or import templates into the master schedule. ALSO ... in my experimentation, I embedded a sample project into what I called a master schedule, regretted it, and have been unable to remove the embedded sample project. I select the "parent" task, press delete, it warns me that I'm deleting a taks that has subs, but I click okay, but it doesn't delete??? What's going on here? Thanks in advance.     - duration from more than one task Hi I'm struggling with project, What I want to do seems very basic, but it just doesn't seem to do it I need to have the start of a task linked to one task and the end linked to another task. The duration is to be determined by the other 2 tasks, not resources or an entered duration. I'm not assigning resources at all, so they wont effect it. I can do this by having 2 sub tasks, one being the start date and one the end date, but that means I need 3 lines to tell a pretty simple story, I have to change the Bar style and roll up the task to make it look like one task not 3 when printing. Surely there's an easyer way to do it in one task. My guess is that the update from the Resource Manager (responsible to complete the task) in PWA is used to compare for accuracy (maybe the task didn't get done). But when I look at old tasks in PWA that were NEVER updated using PWA they eventally show as 100% complete to match the M.S. Project 2003 schedule.     - Custom Fields to Subprojects I have a master file where I have linked numerous subprojects to. I have created a custom field that compares the baseline finish date with the finish date. I would like this custom field to filter down into the subprojects.     - Updating Table & Filter definitions in Plan and Global I have a number of tables and filters which are shown as belonging to both the open project AND the Global.MPT If I update any of these definitions, are the corresponding tables/filters updated in both project AND Global, or only one, and if so, which one?     - assigning a group of people to a task Is there a way of assigning a group of prople to a task by just selecting a single resource ? What we have is a team of implementers with 6 people in the team. In an implementation any or all of them could be working on the task(s) and need to record their time on Project Central (btw, we are still on Project/2000). These 6 people are all in the same Group and, if possible, I would like to be able to automatically assign them all the task(s) without having to go through and select them one by one.     - How to track time without considering assignment units? Hello, I'm using MS Project Pro 2003, non enterprise version. We are planning projets by allocating resources up to 80% (time available for projects, excluding all organizational tasks). We track efforts (with Actual work and Remaining work) and want a schedule reflecting the reality. For understaffing (less efforts produced than planned), updating actual+remaining work, and rescheduling the planning gives good results. For overstaffing (more efforts produced than planned, ex: the engineer worked 100% of his time on the task), we have to update the Actual work in the 'Task usage' view to see the planned assignment be updated with real efforts spent over the week. If not, we do not see the benefits of a work advance due to an overstaffing. Here is the problem: Task A ends Week 1 : Actual work = 3 days Task B follows task A: Actual work = 2 days 1/ When I input 3 days on task A, week 1, MSP delays task B to start on week 11 2/ If I input 2 days on task B, week 1, MSP detects a schedule conflict because it considers that task B starts at the beginning of the week, despite the fact that the task has a 'as soon as possible' constraint I seems like MSP spreads efforts over the tracking period, without considering tasks sequencing... How to track accurate efforts with MSP, when two tasks are overlapping during the timescale period (week) ? Any advice should be appreciated!     - Restricting resource name entry All, I've used Project for years, but as a very 'light-weight' user. I'm now setting up an environment with 10-12 projects, each of 100-120 tasks, which is my biggest MS Project attempt to date. I have a resource file (resource.mpp) with my resouce pool, and the projects are linked to this pool. (all fine so far).     - SP1: Can't set Project Start date to anything but 2005 In SP1 (build 11.1.2004.1707.15) I cannot seem to set the Start Date to anything before January 1, 2005. Go to Project->Project Information and try setting the start date to say November 15, 2004. Close the dialog box. Reopen it. The year will be 2005, not 2004. If you actually change the system's date (not a friendly thing to do) to anytime in the year 2004 it will do it. But when you change the system date back to 2005, and open up the Project Information box, the year will once again be 2005. Anyone else see this? Workaround?     - Linking Resource pools back to tasks Hello, I'm looking at using a resource pool with schedules inserted into a master schedule. But I'm also looking at doing some offline assignment value changes in Excel and import this back in. On a single schedule this is easy as I just link it to the UniqueID. But when I use schedules inserted into other schedules the UniqueIDs all change but Project is able to keep the assignments sorted out. Can someone tell me what mechanism is used by MS Project in linking assignments from inserted sub-schedules to the common resource pool.     - Scheduling Multiple Resources for a Task Hi. I have a Fixed Unit, effort driven task ten days long. I have three resources assigned to perform this task with varying levels of effort.     - Challenging PWA/Outlook Issue This is a strange one. I have PWA 2003 integrated with Outlook 2003. This morning a resource showed me duplicate PWA tasks her Outlook Calender. This is bad, but whats even worse is that the duplicates were created using the regular Outlook Calender form. I think your question is a little too broad. You set them up the same
way as any other project. If you're looking for a template to follow,
there are people who post them sometimes. You might try a search here
and on the web.
