    - %100 in Project 2003 and 0% complete in PWA When tasks are updated w/ (for example) 100% completes in Project 2003 and "published" I can understand why the same tasks in Project Web Access show the tasks as 0% complete. My guess is that the update from the Resource Manager (responsible to complete the task) in PWA is used to compare for accuracy (maybe the task didn't get done). But when I look at old tasks in PWA that were NEVER updated using PWA they eventally show as 100% complete to match the M.S. Project 2003 schedule.     - internet host who is best I want to make my web page live, and I am trying to pick the best host for my business for the best cost also. This is my first web page. I have looked on the webhostingtalk.com, searched on-line hosts, talked to alltel, yahoo, etc. and I am just wondering if anyone out there could give me some help in deciding who to use. I want 24/7 support/help, and I don't want my page down, and if it must be for the host to update I want it for as short of time as possible. I am NOT going to use a free web page host.     - Custom Fields to Subprojects I have a master file where I have linked numerous subprojects to. I have created a custom field that compares the baseline finish date with the finish date. I would like this custom field to filter down into the subprojects. I have been copying this custom field into every subproject...but everytime I modify this field, I have to re-copy it to every subproject. It's getting tedious. is there a better way to do this? Would like to avoid this need for scrolling.     - Filters Highlighting not Hiding An MSP I've brrn given 'highlights' tasks when filters ( even auto-filters ) are applied rather than hiding the tasks - how do I change this ?     - Converting to Project Server Hi, I'm using Project 2003 professional, with a shared resource pool and an integrated programme plan with linked sub projects inserted. I currently store al the files in PVCS (Version manager) and check them out an run all the files from my local directory. I'm now looking to move to Project Server.     - Overtime I have been working on a porject for about a month and yesterday I went to add overtime/ hour thinking that it would atomatically calculate for any resource that was overallocated. Clearly this did not happen and now I can't figure out how to get the overtime to show up.     - Updating Table & Filter definitions in Plan and Global I have a number of tables and filters which are shown as belonging to both the open project AND the Global.MPT If I update any of these definitions, are the corresponding tables/filters updated in both project AND Global, or only one, and if so, which one? I had a VERY nasty accident yesterday where I deleted a table definition, and re-opened my project to find that I had lost ALL my indenting and plan formatting. the message said something like "Cannot open the plan as the table definition <<name>> has been deleted" Could one of you nice people explain if an update to a table or filter update BOTH versions of that table or filter?     - assigning a group of people to a task Is there a way of assigning a group of prople to a task by just selecting a single resource ? What we have is a team of implementers with 6 people in the team. In an implementation any or all of them could be working on the task(s) and need to record their time on Project Central (btw, we are still on Project/2000). These 6 people are all in the same Group and, if possible, I would like to be able to automatically assign them all the task(s) without having to go through and select them one by one. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how this could be achieved, i'm anticipating some form of VBA - AssignTeam with a %age assignment for each member but not sure how best to approach.     - How to track time without considering assignment units? Hello, I'm using MS Project Pro 2003, non enterprise version. We are planning projets by allocating resources up to 80% (time available for projects, excluding all organizational tasks). We track efforts (with Actual work and Remaining work) and want a schedule reflecting the reality. For understaffing (less efforts produced than planned), updating actual+remaining work, and rescheduling the planning gives good results. For overstaffing (more efforts produced than planned, ex: the engineer worked 100% of his time on the task), we have to update the Actual work in the 'Task usage' view to see the planned assignment be updated with real efforts spent over the week. If not, we do not see the benefits of a work advance due to an overstaffing. Here is the problem: Task A ends Week 1 : Actual work = 3 days Task B follows task A: Actual work = 2 days 1/ When I input 3 days on task A, week 1, MSP delays task B to start on week 11 2/ If I input 2 days on task B, week 1, MSP detects a schedule conflict because it considers that task B starts at the beginning of the week, despite the fact that the task has a 'as soon as possible' constraint I seems like MSP spreads efforts over the tracking period, without considering tasks sequencing...     - Restricting resource name entry All, I've used Project for years, but as a very 'light-weight' user. I'm now setting up an environment with 10-12 projects, each of 100-120 tasks, which is my biggest MS Project attempt to date. I have a resource file (resource.mpp) with my resouce pool, and the projects are linked to this pool. (all fine so far). I would like to restrict the data entry on the different project task sheets to 'valid resources only', to prevent creation of resources like 'MM50' when what was required was resource 'MM' at 50% !     - SP1: Can't set Project Start date to anything but 2005 In SP1 (build 11.1.2004.1707.15) I cannot seem to set the Start Date to anything before January 1, 2005. Go to Project->Project Information and try setting the start date to say November 15, 2004. Close the dialog box. Reopen it. The year will be 2005, not 2004. If you actually change the system's date (not a friendly thing to do) to anytime in the year 2004 it will do it. But when you change the system date back to 2005, and open up the Project Information box, the year will once again be 2005. Anyone else see this? Workaround?     - Linking Resource pools back to tasks Hello, I'm looking at using a resource pool with schedules inserted into a master schedule. But I'm also looking at doing some offline assignment value changes in Excel and import this back in. On a single schedule this is easy as I just link it to the UniqueID. But when I use schedules inserted into other schedules the UniqueIDs all change but Project is able to keep the assignments sorted out. Can someone tell me what mechanism is used by MS Project in linking assignments from inserted sub-schedules to the common resource pool.     - Scheduling Multiple Resources for a Task Hi. I have a Fixed Unit, effort driven task ten days long. I have three resources assigned to perform this task with varying levels of effort. Resource one will be on the task for all 10 days, Resource 2 for three days and Resource 3 for 7 days. I have Resource 1 scheduled for 100% Units, resource 2 for 30% and Resource 3 for 70%.     - Challenging PWA/Outlook Issue This is a strange one. I have PWA 2003 integrated with Outlook 2003. This morning a resource showed me duplicate PWA tasks her Outlook Calender. This is bad, but whats even worse is that the duplicates were created using the regular Outlook Calender form.     - Copying Data between Excel and MS Project Hello, I'm copying and pasting data (Start and Finish fields) from Excel to MS Project. Several rows (tasks) of original data in Excel and result of pasting this data into MS Project (Entry Table) are presented in the Table below. General environment is simple: Default MS Projects settings, Standard Calendar, no dependencies between the tasks, no constraints, no resources involved. Some things need clarification. 1. On most tasks MS Project schedules Finish Date one day earlier than in the original, e.g. the task - 1-Feb-05 to 04-Feb-05 appears in MS Project as 1-Feb-05 to 03-Feb-05 with a duration of 3 days instead of 4 in the original. Seems like MS Project is performing according to the following logic: - Enters Start Date (it's correct for all tasks) - Calculates Task's Duration simply by deducting Start Date from End Date. - Schedules the task from the Start Date according to the calculated duration. Is it correct observation? Concern is that task # 5 is scheduled differently. According to the above logic it should have 14 days duration, but MS Project scheduled 10 days (2 business weeks). 2. Does it mean that it's impossible to copy and paste Start and End Dates in one shot directly from Excel into MS Project? Should I first prepare the data in Excel - calculate real task duration D=(FinDate - StartDate)+1 in another field, and copy and paste Start Date and Duration into MS Project? 3. Then it would occur in May, etc. Is there anyway for MSP to produce these recurring tasks automatically? I am currently manually putting each incident of this task as a recurring task. I would like to schedule these out several years, plus I have multiple sets of these types of tasks.     - Multiple Recurring Task dont level correctly Multiple Recurring Task dont level correctly. If I setup just 1 recurring task for say a 1 hr daily meeting and then schedule 8hr of work it correctly schedules 7hr on first day and rolls over 1 hr to the next. But, if you have 2 recurring task for an 1hr a day for a total of 2hr that day, the new task will give you 7 hrs on day one and 1 on day 2 incorrectly overallocating you by an hour on day 1.     - Project 2002/3 Filtering Question (2nd attempt) Hi, Sorry, I am posting this again as I never got a reply to my previous posting. I have a project where the tasks have a number of different resources assigned to them. By using filters, I am trying to get the resource usage view to show only the resource totals for tasks against the filter I have applied. The filter lists out the selected tasks okay, but the totals against the resource contain the total for all the tasks (i.e work, %cmpl, etc) assigned to the resource throughout the plan and ignores the filter. Does anyone know how I can show the resource totals for only those tasks I have chosen? Project MPV assistants - Do you not know the answer to this question? and select the adjust actuals link in the left hand pane, it brings me to the
correct page, but all the boxes are read only. How do I update my resources
taks for them through PWA?

I believe that the Adjust Actuals feature assumes you are using the Hours of
work done per day or per week method of tracking progress. Is that the
method you are using to track progress in your organization? Let us know.

currently I am using the option called:

"Actual work done and work remaining: Resources report the actual work done
and the work remaining to be done on each task"
