Hi Folks - seems like the most basic of tasks has me challenged!

I need to set every day of the month (every month) as working time. MSP98
seems to calculate the working week as 5 days regardless of what I set in
the Tools>Change Working Time options.

For example: 'Nov 14th 05' to 'Dec 11th 05' should be displayed as 28 days
but in fact it wont even calculate that period instead changing the start
date or end date, and the duration is calculated as 19 days!

How can I get 100% of the month to be used as working time?

Cheers and TIA

Hello Kahuna,

Set the number of Hours per day and hours per week in : Tools / Options /
Calendar
Have a look at FAQ # 5 : Default working hours
http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm#Default%20Working%20Hours

Kahuna

Thanks Gerard

I am afraid that does not fix my problem. I have the Hours as 6:00 to 18:00
and 12 per day and 84 hours per week.

In the Tools> Change Working Time I have all the days set to work time (not
shaded) and the work hours 84 per week.

Experimenting - the only way I can get it to accept 28 days, to represent
the period I need, is to set it to 'Non-Default Working Hours'. And, to be
honest, I am not sure how it determines its 'non-default', as the only
options on the form are 'Use Default', 'Non-Working Time', 'Working Time'.

But this doesn't seem correct to me. I have set the defaults as described
and yet MSP98 does not recognise the setting. Seems like its not under my
control - so I guess I am just not understanding the principle or something.

Did I misunderstand the software or make a mistake??

Cheers Gerard

Kahuna,

I tested right now (on version 2003 : I don't have 98 anymore) and
everything worked fine.
I think that 98 would work the same way.

Hi Kahuna,

OK, I'm checking in Project 98. In Tools/Change Working Time, check that
all the days are shaded as non-default working hours, and the working time
button is selected and the hours are from 0800 to 1800. (Default working
hours are the hard coded 0800 to 1200 and 1300 to 1700.) This should give
you a calendar for all days working for 12 hours a day and 84 hours per
week.

Now, in Tools/Options/Calendar, set it to read 0600 start time, 1800 end
time, 12hrs per day and 84 hrs per week.

That should do it. If you now enter a task for 28 days duration, it will
run through 28 days on the calendar. But why? I hope you don't create tasks
that humans will be working on, as they will soon have mental breakdowns!

Thanks Mike - that's where I got to - though I am still puzzled how I
achieved the Non-Default Working time - I think I just clicked the
Non-Working Time and then Working time options and hey presto - shaded as
Non Default!!! Seems non-intuitive to me - but hey, I am a newbie in
Project.

As for the durations. I have teams of guys working offshore on specific
projects and yes - they are humans <lol>. But they get great time off and
earn excellent salaries. No breakdowns as yet! Have to say the 28 day trip
is purely a one off.

Cheers
