    - MS Project 2007 Won't run I've tried several times to install Project Pro 2007 on Vista Ultimate. The install says it completed, but when I try to run it, the program goes into this loop where it's configuring, then the splash screen appears, and then it configures again, and finally says it couldn't configure because there isn't enough memory. I have 2 gigs of Ram, 28 gigs of HD space and nothing else is running except bloated Vista. Any ideas? Everything else in Office installed and runs fine, including Visio.     - "Show" on toolbar in Resource Usage view, dropdowns not available When in the Resource Usage view (Filter: Resource-Work, Table: Work, Group By: No Group), the Show toolbar dropdown options of Outline Level 1, ect. are greyed out and not available. When in this view for a particular Resource Name, I would like to expand/contract the displayed assignments(as displayed withthe +/- box next to the name) using this toolbar option.     - Project 2003 file to XML for RSS feed use Hi, We have someone who has developed a calendar of events using Project 2003. We want to be able to make this into an XML file that can be read by an RSS feed reader. We successfully saved as XML but when we put it through the reader we get a message saying there are no items to display. We are using the feed reader called KlipFolio. I have also tried to open it in Internet Explorer and it just shows all the code. If you can help please let me know or if anyone out there has successfully made a Project into an RSS feed I would like to hear how you accomplished it.     - Unknow error about resources We were trying to Edit the resource Bety but we couldnâ??t. The following errors were showed: In the Manage Userâ??s and in the Central Resources screens: Unknown error: Solve the problems with Windows SharePoint Services. As we couldnÂ´t edit the resource, we checked it out (I donÂ´t remember how) then we tried to delete it but it wasnÂ´t allowed: â??The resources could not be excluded because some of them are checked-outâ??. Then weâ??ve tried to check it back in but the resource wasnâ??t showed in the list "Force Check-in..." How can I solve this problem? IÂ´ve already looked up in the http://support.microsoft.com and this is what I've found: â??An enterprise resource is checked out by a system process such as the Active Directory Resource Pool Synchronization(example), and the resource is not correctly checked back in. When this occurs, the resource does not appear on the Force Check-in Enterprise Objects page. This condition makes it impossible to check in the resource from Project Web Access.â??     - Conditional headers Hi, A bit of a long shot I suspect, but, I want the header to change dependant on which filter is used for a report. So if the report is about civil work then I want the Civil engineer's name to show in the header etc. I have the names against the activities but since they change from one activity to the next, then simply adding in that field does not seem to return the name in the header. I suspect it is because the header does not know which of the many values in the field to return. Any ideas to have a IIF([Text1]="Civil', "Joe B loggs,"") in the header?     - Need syntax to link ghost tasks I am trying to link tasks in two separate projects, both saved and published to Project Server. I am using Project Professional 2007. The instructions in MS Project Inside Out say to type, "<>\[projectname].mpp.published\[tasknumber]" or "<>\[projectname].mpp.published1\[tasknumber]" (depending upon the enterprise version control protocol?) into the ID field of the Task Information window in the Predecessors tab. I have tried every variation of this that I can think of, with no success. Does anyone know how to link tasks between two separate projects?     - Newbie to Project and forums need help Hello, I am new to the forums and only recently started using MS Projec 2003. I am wondering how I would go about the following: First a bit of history, we track our projects from a single date thi date really is not a start or a finish but more of a work date. When we do this we go forwards and backwards in time by using + and d Example say our project is supposed to start on 1 Jan 08, before tha can start we must start a test plan and many other steps. So our Finish date (for lack of better things to call it) is 1 Jan 0 our Test plan is built - 120 days so that would be 1 Sep 07. Likewis we do a report that is due + 90 days so that would be 1 Apr 08. How would I use this as a formula to calculate the dates these need t start for me. I envision a task sheet with fields labled Task Name Duration Lag/Lead Start Date Finish Date Where Duration would be typed in and lead to a finish date based on th Lag/Lead column inputting to the Start date Example Task Name Test Plan 20d -120d (calculated Finish dat -120d = 1 Sep 07) 21 Sep 07 Any ideas on how to build the formula and put it into a column?     - How can I change the height of a task as it is shown in MSP? I recently changed the height of a task in an MS Project plan so it would wrap the task name in a view of a Gantt chart.     - Remaining work not = sum of future time phased work The remaining work for a task or a rollup does not equal the sum of the future work in the time phased grid. After statusing a task (or the entire project), we use the Update Project function to push the remaining work after the status date. The status date does not fall on the calendar month end but rather on a Friday of the fiscal month. The result is that the sum of the weekly time phased work does not equal the Remaining Work total that is displayed in the Task Remaining Work column.     - Creating makeshift timesheets in Project (need an idea) The company in which I'm currently employed is moving to using Project Server (2k7) as well as an implementation of PWA. In the meantime, I need to generate some "makeshift" timesheets for my resources on my various projects, so they can at least write down how many hours per day they are putting towards specific tasks. What we've been doing is basically came up with a custom "task usage" view with a table that has slots for Monday-Friday in the middle, so the end result is something like this: | Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday | Summary Task 1 | Summary Task 2 | Task 1 | John Q Public | | | | | | I print this out, hand it to John Q, and at the end of the week John goes through his various tasks and just jots down a number for that particular task, eventually tallying up to approximately 40 (when all of his tasks are combined) Although this is temporary, it is still very inconvenient for the resources for obvious reasons. One thing I'd like to do to make these Task Usage sheets easier to read is compress the summary task and task hierarchy down to 1 line. So instead of a different line for each summary task, the above might look like this: m | t | w | th | f Summary Task 1, Summary task 2, Task 1 - John Q. Public Even if this is formatted weird when people view this, hopefully that gets the point across. Essentially a way to show an entire hierarchy/ summary on a single line for at ask, rather than 6 lines to get 4 summary tasks and 1 real task, and 1 resource name. Any ideas?     - % Complete to Date I'd like to easily report what percent of work is complete as expected to be by date. Say I have tasks to be finished last week, this week, and next week.     - Actual Work - Converting to Decimals We use MSP 2003. We are using it to track actual time for all tasks entered. We are using a resource pool (not sure if this matters). When we enter the actual work, for some tasks, for some resources, it changes the numbers to decimals after the plan is saved and closed - we do not see it actually do this during entry.     - Resource Usage view I have a consolidated project with many subtasks linked into a main project. On the Gnatt Chart, the Task Name is always the file name that I have assigned to the sub project (ie. 100 - Job). However, when I bring up the Resource Usage view, the Project field is the full path of the sub project (ie. C:\Files\100 - Job.mpp). Is there any way to change that full path name in the Resource Usage to just show the sub project file name?     - task hierarchy in My tasks With Project Server 2007, is it possible to show the task Hierarchy in "My Taks" view or at least in the timesheet? In the past we were using Project Server 2003 and the team member had access to the task hierarchy. It is available in the task details, but, it means that you have to click on each task to see the "task path".     - Resource Report Presentation to Upper Mgmt I have 6 projects with the same assigned resources. Each Project Manager is not using the same naming convention and named the resources differently on their individual projects even though they are the same 30 people. By combining all 6 projects and renaming the resources to all be consistant I see that the resources look duplicated. I don't know which ones to delete?     - How many projects can MS Project handle? Hi there, I understand that MS Project can be very effective in managing single projects. My question is we have about 100 projects that we are trying to manage and report on.     - Data Analysis values are different from Project values I am experiencing a problem with PS 2007 Data Analysis OLAP to where it is reporting values that are different from the project's values. This seems to be happening accross a number of fields although the one I'm most concerned with is 'baseline work'. I have checked to make sure the project is republished and the OLAP cube is refreshed so this data should be the same. I have seen several posts about the PS cube reporting inaccurately on this discussion board but i can't find anyone who knows exactly why this is happening or how to fix it. When I open the program Install Shield start running. It then says.... The Path Microsoft project 2000 cannot b found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again. o try to find the installation package "Install MSI" in a folder fro which you can install the product Microsft Project 2000.     - Best way to show duration for this independent task. I have a task that starts on the project start date and has no predecessors; it is a truly independent task. The duration of the task is nine days and we want to keep the nine days as the duration, but the task is pushing out to the right for 6 weeks. It's not that the actual task is going to take any longer to complete, but because of resource constraints it is only getting pieces done at odd times. Basically, I want to show that it takes nine days to do this task, as we want to keep this for historical data, but it needs to show six weeks in the start/finish. Is there a way to do this?     - Preserving duration data when changing settings I have inherited a schedule that has been set up for effort driven fixed work, 12 hours per day (7 day week), with some resources allocated to a 7 day standard calendar, and some to a 24 hour calendar. The reason for my question is that this schedule of works is a 24 hours operation, so is it right that the calendar (in options) is set up for 12 hours, and individual resources set up for 24 hours... ...or should the project calendar be set for 24 hours, with individual resources set for whichever pattern they are working. I suspect that it should be the latter. If that is the case, is it just straight forward to change to the 24 hour calendar? The added complication i'm facing is that i historically have used fixed duration (not effort driven) as i need to add in codings to the resource info of an activity, that allow me to see information graphically, but do not have a bearing on the number of people carrying out that job ie total persons on site, bedding requirements etc. Can i therefore preserve the duration of these jobs when chaging over from fixed units to fixed duration having changed the calendar (to 24h), and in which order do i need to do things in???? I try to use Earned Value numbers. I can see them in the views and in the
"old" report. But when I try the new Visual Report sometimes thera are no
values, and the week numbers are wrong??? Please help!

Check if you have SP1 installed. I had some issues w/ exporting EV numbers
until I installed SP1.
