    - Progress Bar does not match percent complete I have a blue bar indicating my task. I have a thin black line (centered) to show my current state of completion. This seemed to be working fine earlier but I changed something and exactly what is my mystery.     - Uninstall Project 2002 I had MS Project Professional 2002 installed on my computer. My harddisk crashed and I restored it from backup. The Prj 2002 did not restore properly:( My company converted to Prj 2003 and thus no longer supports 2002:( So I installed Prj 2003. Well my system still thinks that Prj 2002 is still installed (it shows up greyed in the "Add/Remove Programs" app). Everytime I attempt to update a MS Office product, it wants to re-install my Prj 2002:( This usually causes the update to fail. I do not have access to the Prj 2002 install directories/CD.     - Authentication issue Hi, We recently changed the authentication type on the virtual server that hosts our Project Server 2003 to basic authentication, we then turned it back to integrated (NTLM) authentication; the problem that we have now is that users are unable to login to the project site using their project server windows authentication account.     - File Size Expansion Problem Hey guys, There's one issue we've faced with while working with the pretty big projects in MSP that I'd like to share and get some advise from our experts: when increasing the number of activities in the project file and manipulating with them its size is scaled up getting bigger - for examlpe exceeds 100MB for 300 tasks - but later when I reduce the number of tasks by deleting it won't decrease the size appropriately - seems like the file was bubbled...Is there any tool inside or outside MSP enabling me to release this file pressure...kind of defragmenter or compressor???     - monitoring actual work Hi all, I am trying to monitor the actual quantities. Civil works have "Resource Name" (EX, LC, RC, BF) and their amount has been entered to "Units". In order to this, "Resource Names" become "EX[367]". Task Information -> "Excavation" -> Resources -> Resource Name = EX Units = 367 I update actual data to Number1 column as "Actual Quantity". "% Complete" is standard column in the microsoft project and can not be changed (at least I could not). I have to update "% Complete" column manualy. Do I have another option ? Number2 column does satisfied me. But I have to define additional formula for main task "ZZZ Civil Construction" to calculate total percentage of work (3%). Microsoft Project calculates it automatically in the "% Complete" column. Finally, How can I update / monitor "Actual Quantities" in easy way ?     - Multiple formatting preference sets ? I have to re-format the same "views" to satisfy different audiences. This includes the way task bars look (what color to use for regular, critical, milestone tasks, whether the bar itself is block or gray scale, whether the 'format layout' shows successor arrows or not, task name fonts and colors, which columns are visible in the Gantt view, etc etc). This does not change the underlying task information itself, only the way it's displayed. Is there a way to name and save these formatting preferences so that I can switch to any of them and restore the way it looks ?     - can anyone explain how to enter subtasks in Project I'm entirely new to Project 2003 (in fact, I'm using the trial version), but I'm rather dumbfounded by the (to me) 100% counterintuitive user interface when it comes to adding new tasks and subtasks. What I expected (what seemed simply the obvious and proper way to do it): select a task, then when one adds a new task (via INS, or perhaps Enter, or an on-screen command button, or a keyboard shortcut), it would either be a subsequent task at this same level, or a substask of the task currently selected. Whichever it was, you could switch it to the other with a single keystroke (e.g., alt-arrow key to indent [subtask] it or unindent, respectively). Presumably, you could also move items vertically with similar ease, since that's so critical when setting up a new project. But instead, and maddeningly, when one hits INS one adds a task BEFORE the currently selected task. Does MS really think that the way one thinks about adding tasks is "Ah! Here's a new task I want to be unrelated to and before the task I've currently thinking about!" rather than "I want to add a task to [or after] this task"?? Outlining seems to be an exceptionally clumsy afterthought to Project, and that's unbelievable to me. One should be able to easily add subtasks, easily move them up and down or left and right through the hierarchy, etc. But I can find no commands or keyboard shortcuts to do this. Instead, it's maddening; I'm currently extremely inclined not to use Project simply because the basic input and project brainstorming seems unacceptably clumsy. (It seems this is the feasible way of using it: outline the whole project on paper or in a text editor first, make sure it's 100% right, then enter it into Project to track it.) A part of me can't imagine this is correct--it must be a user problem, not a program problem. Yet try and search as I might, I can find NO remotely intuitive or convenient way either to enter or restructure tasks and subtasks. Help! Tag: Update Dates Tag: 72807

    - Subtasks are Intented Too Much When I indent a subtask, the indent is large (about 32 characters) on the screen, requiring me to increase the TASK NAME column width. Subsequent indents are of equal size, eventually running the 4th indent totally off the screen. The sheet prints fine (even print preview), and this only happens on the screen. How do I reduce the indent to only 3 or 4 character spaces like it appears on the Gantt reports? I can't find any setting to change how big the outline indent is. I'm using Project 2003 Standard.     - Identifying repetitive tasks in Resource Usage view With 7+ identical task structures in a single project list each summarised by Plot (as in building plot) name, identifying overallocation is problematical. Have added WBS column to help but would like to include summary name (Plot name) from Task Entry table. Have tried adding Plot name into Text1 (Task) manually but can't add that to Res Usage table as it only sees Text1 (Res). Can task field (custom or other) be added to Resource table or is WBS only option?     - Installation Nightmare I have installed Project Server 2003 10 times according to the Single Server Installation Guide. Every time I install and try to "Create the Cube", no cube is created. Is this a known problem with the installation? If I create a Cube in Analysis Server manually, it is still not recognized in the PWA Server Configuration page.     - Linking Workplans I will be linking 3 workplans together to form one master workplan #1). One of those 3 workplans will actually be a masterplan (#2) that incorporates 8 (team) workplans. My question: When either of the 8 team workplans are updated, which in turn updates the masterplan (#2) they are linked to, will the overall masterplan (#1, of which masterplan #2 is a part of) also be updated automatically.     - Outlook Integration Problem Hello, I've installed the Project Server 2003 on Windows 2003 Server. I've created some Project Server accounts and then installed the Outlook Integration Plugin in Outlook 2003. The only problem is that it doesn't work at all. When I try to import new assignment and enter my password for my Project Web Access Account an error message box appears indicating that the username or password is invalid. I'm sure that the password and username are OK. I have to use the project web access account because I can't use the Windows Authentificaction because the connection is not from the same network. Though this has not been a problem in the past we once we publish the master we annot drill down into the subprojects. We have a considerable number of subprojects (23) which, of course, use links throughout and need external links.
