With using Microsoft Project. Does anyone know what this stands for [50%] in the Resource name.

so for instance:
secretary[50%]

What does this mean?[50%] what does this do?

Hi,

It means that, according to the data you gave in, the secretary will work on
this task 50% of her time.
For instance, when you define a 4 day task and you enter 16 hours (2 days)
of work Project ill calculate this as 50% assignment units.

Hi thanks!
Yes makes sense but what would this mean below?

Book appointment for Fire Authority 0.5 days
Secretary[50%] Mon 09/08/04 Mon 09/08/04

Communicate date of move to staff 0.5 days
Secretary[50%] Mon 09/08/04 Mon 09/08/04

Im a bit confused on this?

would this mean the secretary spends 1/2 a day, effort 50% allocation (half of their time)therefore 1 day to complete.

both task running at the same date but 50% allocation, would this mean the secretary spends the whole of her time doing both task?

also:
1.Arrange for trash disposal 0.25 days
Secretary[50%] Tue 10/08/04 Tue 10/08/04

2.Arrange for cleaning services 0.25 days
Secretary[50%] Tue 10/08/04 Tue 10/08/04

3.Send change of address notifications 0.5 days
Secretary[50%] Tue 10/08/04 Wed 11/08/04

all task running at the same date but 50% allocation, would this mean the secretary spends half of her time, during the time she is working for task 1 and 2. And the other half for task 3? yes?

or have I got this all wrong.

[50%] is this essential in a project to put, as you said the secretary time on that particular task. I was wondering why you would need to do this and not just play around with the dates.

I think I've answered my question for the last sentence. I've got to remember it is her time, not the time scale for the task.
As my lecturer suggested me to do this, I wasnt sure what he was going on about.

Does this just help to make the Project look more accurate? by adding the time the Manager, secretary, building worker is spending or would this really only apply to the Manager and secretary.

Sorry for asking so many questions, im new at this.

Hi,

Just two ideas to help you understand.

Task duration 0.5 days duration, secretary [50%] does not mean the task
lasts for 1 day, it lasts for 0.5 days, full stop. The WORK on it is 0.25
days

Resources can indeed be overloaded without Project reacting. To make project
recalculate task as a functions of respourxce load use Resource Leveling.

And finally... a basic course or at least some reading of the principles
will help you greatly... if you have to discover Project by guessing every
figure it may take you months.
