I'm trying to figure out how to solve an issue I have, and it's not
overly apparent to me.
Basically, I want to link many projects to a shared resource pool so
that I have a single point of entry for holidays, working hours etc
(we're a web development agency). This is so we can track resource
usage, and scheduling around holidays etc. This is all working fine.

However, I would like to set different rates for resource on different
projects. ie Person A might cost $300 to Client A, versus $500 for
Client B.

How can I set this up? Is it possible?

Neil,

This is not possible to do when you go to a shared resource pool model
because rate is a resource attribute and not a project or "resource on
project" attribute, . The same issue occurs in the enterprise server
version when the model switches to an enterprise resource pool. Any attempt
to change resource data like rate on the project will be overwritten from
the enterprise resource pool or shared resource pool each time the project
is opened.

In that case how can I go about resource levelling if resources
applied to projects are seperate entities in the eyes of Project. As
I see it, Project won't be able to level Project A's "bob" vs Project
B's "bob". Also, how do people manage multiple projects and staff
holiday etc?

Hello Neil,

You can accomplish what you need by using the Cost rate tables and
then assigning the different rate table to the resource's assignment.

Double click on the Resource's name to show the Resource Information
dialog box. Click the Costs tab and enter a rate for each tab (A, B,
C, etc.)

Once you assign the resource to tasks, view the Resource Usage view
and add the Cost Rate Table field to the table (left side). Select
the correct cost rate table for the resource on the specific
assignments.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Leveling is OK across multiple projects which are inserted into a master
file and the resource calendars stick to the resources.
Once you apply a rate and a calendar to a resource, you can't change it for
that resource from project to project.
If you splt your resource in the resource pool so that one resource looks
like several, such as
Bob for Project 1
Bob for Project 2
etc
you get the different rates and calendars in different projects but then
can't level Bob.
The same thing happens within an individual project and without a pool.
You can't change the resource rate or the resource calendar from task to
task.
