    - Export out a project to Excel from MS Project I am a newbie of MS project and was asked to make a report and export i to Excel, The reports contain each person's name & project assignment o the left columns and the month in the first row, and the workload in th table .The attached is part of the report I made. However, I discovere that I can't export it out to Excel. So, I have been trying to expor the project to Excel through "Save As". I can export the project ou and have the required columns, however, I can't summaise the workloar (in hour) for each task of each person by month. And also, I need t have total workload of each person by month. Here is my question, Since we can produce a report in MS. Is there any way to export th report out to Excel (raw data) and we then can edit it.     - differential sync to actual Is it possible to have REAL resources in MSProject 2003 SP3 synced to actual and the GENERIC resources NOT sync to actual after having set %-complete on tasks with Generic-ONLY sources. In other words ... we'd like to track technical progress on tasks that only have GENERIC resources assigned ... thus, if we set a %-complete, it will estimate the remaining work on that task for that generic resource.     - Project 2007 SP1 crashes To overcome the problem of our business having version Project 2007 (12.0.4518.1014) MSO (12.0.4518.1014) and our training partner having Project 2007 education version with a version number of Project 2007 (12.0.4518.1014) MSO (12.0.6017.5000) with the accompanying problem of these 2 versions having different features, we downloaded SP1. After installing SP1 we created some macros and made other changes and every time we tried to save to the global.mpt file, the program crashes. Also, it still has the 'creating calendars' problem (we can only choose 'Gregorian calendar') whereas our training partner has many calendars to choose from and the problem of different 'tools/options'. I have been unable to find a way to do this without using a normal calendar.     - Resource Assignment Help! Hi, I'm new the forums, but it looks like a great place to get help. :) Here's my question... I have an MS Project Plan created with tasks, dependencies, and effort (broken down by each project phase). I know which resources should be assigned to each task. Seperately, I created a detailed Resource Plan with a list of all resources, hours per resource, and which tasks they should be involved with. The project is complex, with approximately 15k workdays over 100 tasks, and around 40-50 FTEs. What is the easiest way to load my MPP with resources, while maintaining the right number of hours per resources per phase? Is there any way to do this (add-in tool perhaps?) besides manually adding resources to tasks, leveling, hoping the hours match what my Resource Plan says, and then reallocating?     - Problem with setting Resource Availability I have resources that I need to set for particular availability on a project, but don't want them to show as having any other remaining availability other than for that project. I'm using the Resource Availability box under Resource Information, and setting the start/end dates and available units. But the units are not setting; it either wants 1 or 0. It was working last week! I could set availability to be any percentage I wanted for a set range of dates. Not sure what's happened, but this is very important so that these resources are not counted as overall available when I run monthly reports. But I still want to show who's working on a project.     - Entering start/end date with time Is there a way to enter the start or end date with time other that manually editing the time portion? The pop-up calendar only shows days....so not see a way to specify time. We are currently using P3 and I am reviewing Project 2003 to see if it meet our requirements. Projects are scheduled in hours.     - Inflation in Cost Model I am using MS Project to build the cost model for a project over a number of years. To allow for inflation, I would like different cost rates to be applied to resources depending upon when the work is undertaken.     - Long Indent Good morning everyone. I posted this question before, received and tried a few of suggestions including re-installing the software with no success. I was hoping someone might have come across a solution in the mean time. Problem: All tasks indent way too far. They indent so far that I have to expand the task name colunm past the edge of my screen and scroll over to see every task...very annoying and impossible to view the project as a whole. This problem is isolated to a particular machine and does not appear this way on any other machines or any other users in the office using the same Project file. If I log in as different user to this machine, the problem still exists. On this machine, all Project files appear this way for new or exisiting tasks. This problem started when I got this user a new computer which is a Micron using XP. I loaded Project 2007 Standard using a volume license key after receiving the new computer. I also used this same CD and key to load it on his old computer which was fine and which is now no longer in use. I sincerely appreciate any suggestions anyone has! Thanks!     - BCWP is always zero when using Physical % Complete for EVA Hi folks, I've seen similar posts to this in the past and the problem has always been down to lack of a baseline, wrong status date, that kind of thing. Well I'm relatively earned value savvy and and believe I have done all the right things but I'm still getting zero BCWP when I use Physical % Complete rather than % Complete as the basis for my EV calculations. If I swap a task back to use % Complete then BCWP is fine. Swap it back to use Physical % Complete and it zeroes again. I've checked and re-checked the data but really have run out of ideas.     - Resource Pool - MS Project 2003 I have set up a resource pool for use by PM's. It is sorted and saved by the name of the resoure, however, when a PM selects a name from the resource pool the resource is listed by when the resource was added to the pool rather than by the sorted name. The issue is that when a PM assigns a name to a task it is difficult to locate the name form the resource list.     - Resources counted multiple times For some reason, Project has decided to count one task multiple times in each of the resources assigned to it. I assigned up to five people to several tasks in the Gantt chart view, and then when I went to level the resources in the 'resource usage' view I noticed that some (but not all) of the tasks were counted multiple times. This leads to serious overbooking of the resources. Any thoughts on why this is happening, and what I can do to fix it? I also noticed that the dependencies in some of the duplicated tasks got replicated by the same number of times the tasks repeated for the resource. That is, the dependency of one task (which was duplicated four times in a particular resource) was shown as '12,12,12,12' - instead of the '12' I had initially put there. Thoughts, anyone? TIA... In the resource allocation view, when I click on the "go to the next overallocation" button the overallacotion in 2008 is shown, but not the one in 2011. I get a message that there is no overallocation after "date of the first overallocation". The project was created with MSP XP, but I have the same problem in 2003 and 2007.     - Duration, ES, EF, LS, LF & Slack inconsistent calculation My project settings in Project 2003: Calendar- I modified calendar "nigh shift"; working hours 7-10pm M-F and 5-10pm Sat-Sun Task type- globally assigned "Work Fixed" Logic- summary tasks are shells with no logic attached to them. Ensured there are no constraints or resources assigned to the summary tasks. Linked everything, assigned resources and globally assigned "As Soon As Possible" constraints all at the sub-task level. Problem: I'm not confident with LS & LF dates calculated by Project. Nor am I confident with the slack calculations. "Free Slack" is the attribute in Project which seems to be the closest to the idea of "float" we use in a course I'm taking. Here are several examples of where I get conflicting slack (float) calculations: WBS ID 20= Pack Living Room- first issue, I manually calculate a float of (ES-LS) 15dys, and (EF-LF) 16dys? No agreement. Second issue, Project returns slack of 6.12dys? Totally different? (ES-LS) 15dys, and (EF-LF) ES 2/27/2008 EF 2/28/2008 98.00dys LS 6/4/2008 LF 6/4/2008 97.00dys WBS ID 66= Test new property keys- first issue; I manually calculate a float of (ES-LS) 98dys, and (EF-LF) 97dys.     - MSP 2007 Crashes when applying Group with Custom Field with Formula Hello, I was just "upgraded" to MSP 2007 from 2003. Project crashes everytime I apply a group to a view that shows a custom field with a formula. I have tried a number of things to prevent this including defining a field with a very simple formula that just sets a text field to the value "test". I can view the field fine, but when I apply a group (even a standard group like "Critical"), it crashes Project. This seems to only happen in the projects I created in 2003 originally. Moving the same fields, groups, and views to a new project (using Organizer) seems to work OK without crashing. I certainly do not want to recreate my whole MPP files again. Help! Any ideas on how to correct this? Has anybody else experienced this?     - Old Alert Mgr - Message I'm experiencing missing data from MS Project. There are task that I updated last night and this morning and saved, but the task appear as if they weren't saved. Just a moment ago, I recieved a pop up box that reads: OLD ALERT MGR: Microsoft Project Do you want to save the changes to (project name).mpp? Yes / No The application has locked up. When I use a project schedule that has not been resource leveled and when I
go into the Resource Graph, it shows the resources that are overallocated in
certain time frames - which is as designed. I prefer not to resource level.
However, when tasks are marked as completed, they remain on the Resource
Graph. Especially for time frames when overallocation exists, it would be
great if the overallocation would disapper for those task that have allready
been completed. Is there a way for the Resource Graph to only show
incomplete tasks?

When you track progress you need to update Actual Start and Finish dates.
There should be no completed work in the future and no incomplete work in
the past. Doing this will solve your problem.
