Hi,

I am trying to us the workgroup task assign function so that I can have my
tasks in outlook.

I have assigned the task to the appropriate resource and have sent and
recieved the task assign message in outlook, however I can't open the
attachment. The attachment file extension is MXM.

Thanks,
Megan.

This NG is for users of MS Project. I suggest you find the similar NG
for users of Outlook.
Best of luck.

Hi Megan,

Did you run the WGSetup.exe file? It will create the file association for
the MXM file. See:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;818337

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thanks Julie. The file has been run I understand. Is there a similar help
page for project 2000?

I found the wgsetup.exe file and double clicked it and got this error message:

Setup initialization error

Setup cannot access the required initialization file
'C:\Program~1\MICROS~2\OFFICE\SETUP\WGSETUP.INF'

I am on Office 2003 and have Project 2000.

Thanks,
Megan

Hi Megan,
It's possible that the software was not installed to the default path. I
don't know precisely how to trouble shoot this one other than to check with
the folks who did the installation of Project and see if they can give some
additional guidance.

I Have checked with him and he isn't sure why it isn't working. Could there
be because I am on office 2003 and using project 2000? Is there anywhere else
I can go for help?

Hi Megan,

I'm not sure. From your earlier message it appears as though the
WGSETUP.EXE file is looking for the WGSETUP.INF file. Have you tried
searching your computer for the file to see where it is located? Once you
find the file can you copy it to the directory path noted in the error
message?
You might try going to help in Project and searching for additional
information on the workgroup message handler. I don't have Project 2000
available so I can't research much further on my end.
If all else fails, you could try contacting Microsoft. See the following
URL for information on contacting Microsoft for support on Project 2000:
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?ln=en-us&x=9&y=10&c1=505&gprid=2679&

[Note you may need to copy and paste the above URL into your browser]

Hope this helps.
Julie

Hi Julie,

I went to the link that you gave in another post for people who wanted
workgroup messaging but had project 2003. I downloaded the setup files from
there and found the missing INF file. I reinstalled workgroup messaging and
then went back to my email. I tried to open the .mxm extension with no luck.
I tried clicking relpy with no luck.

So I uninstalled workgroup messaging, rebooted and then reinstalled it from
the project CD. Then I tried again and still no luck.

Am I meant to install it directly from the CD? That works fine. However, I
still can't reply to the workgroup messaging.

Please help!! I'm going crazy.

Thanks,
Megan

Hi Megan,

Okay. It sounds as though you were able to get the WGSetup file installed.
Can you now open the email message? What does it display? You also noted
that you are unable to reply. Is it because you can't open the email
message or because the reply doesn't get sent?
Have you checked help within Project for workgroup messaging? There are
additional setup issues within the project file that must be set.
