    - Dates in subproject and master roll-up not consistent Hello, Using ms project 2003 sp2 I've spotted something odd in sub projects and a master roll up of all projects. At present I'm not really using actuals. Colleagues are basically adding % complete, start and end to projects. These dates appear fine in the sub-project. On opening the master project the date is, undestandably, incorrect. If I expand the subproject in the master view, the dates change and appear to be correct. If I then: save the roll-up and subprojects (as prompted) close the master open the master project again Expand another subproject The previous subproject loses it's dates and reverts back to the old pre-expanded date. The dates are not lost as on expanding they re-appear. The problem means that the master file doesn't show the correct estimate of start/end dates. Is this by design? Am I misunderstanding something.     - Earned Value I am having a problem with one job in my current project. I have updated the %'s however in one job the BCWP has not progressed. For the longest time I thought I was doing something wrong (even though its a very simple function).     - Syntax error I am trying to save a multi project file as a Microsoft Access Database. When the export map contains the fields: % Complete, Actual Start, Actual Finish, Total Slack and Unique ID I get a message "[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Syntax error in field definition." and the export fails. If I remove these fields and leave only fields such as: Start, Finish, Duration everything works fine. I made some custom field that had a space in the field name and when these are included in the map the export again fails. When I rename these fields without the space the export is successful. It appears it is the space in the field name that is the syntax errors causing the failure. Is there some work-around or a way to rename the fields?     - Comparing Baseline to Current Work Effort I have baselined my project and have been updating the Actual Work field as work has progressed. Please help me if you know how or alternative solution:-) As you know, there are some tasks are Predecessor of other tasks, and for a project, the schedule of many tasks are relevant. Therefore, if we change one task schedule(start date or end date), it is possible to bring schedule change for many tasks at the same time. It is really hard to be aware of all the change points, which may bring later suprise or potential risk if some of the task schedule is improper.     - EPM SERVER Resource Pool and Rights I seem to be having an issue with giving a user access rights to check-out and edit a project file from the SERVER. I've added him as a valid user under the PWA ADMIN manage users interface, and provide 'project manager' rights, which should provide necessary privledges.     - RUP vs UML Hi, I am new to this industry and have been working as a Business Analyst since the last 18 months. In this time, I have managed to understand the processes in my company and also the basics of Business Analysis. What I would like to discuss here is, can people who are in similar roles, tell me how RUP is used in daily project management. The RUP talks about Phases, Iterations, Workflows etc. But isnt this what we all do anyways? We define our project based on the various phases it goes through, like an inception, then the stage of elaboration the simple requirements to more granular levels and then the solution specifications, design specifications and so on. So what exactly it is that RUP promises to improve? Again, is it all jargon? And how is RUP and UML interlinked? By now, some of you probably understand my predicament. I'm trying to insert a page break in Project so that I can control where
information appears on the print out. I see the page break in the view of
the project plan but when the plan prints, the printer ignores the page break
and prints the information on the same page.
