    - Baseline Corruption I have found that baseline data gets corrupted when the tasks are moved in schedules that have been baselined. To reproduce the problem, do this in a new project: 1. Create 1 summary task, having one sub task (1 day will do). 2. Create a resource with a cost per hour ($1 will do) and assign that resource to the sub-task. 3. Baseline the whole project and save. 4. Set the project status date to the day before the summary task start date (EVM calcs are done based on this date). Now, switch to the EVM table in the Gantt chart view and add the CPI and SPI columns. The CPI and SPI will be 0 on summary and sub-task - this is correct. Open the bottom pane so that you have a combination view with the top being the Gantt chart with the EVM table and the bottom being the standard task usage view. Add the actual work row to the task usage pane. Now you should be able to see 8 hours work and a blank for actual work, on the day for the subtask. Select the sub-task. Enter an amount of hours equal to the work value, into the actual work row, on the expected date for the subtask (in the task usage pane). Now change the status date to the last date and observer that the CPI and SPI calculations are correct and both show as 1. Move the subtask to the top of the list of tasks, so that it is the first task and not a sub-task any longer. You will notice the CPI and SPI values are now wrong. If you have a large project, with many levels and you do this to re-organise the project, the CPI and SPI values are useless and cannot be used for EVM. This problem also corrupts the EVM Olap cube extension data. The obvious solution to re-baseline the project does !NOT! work becuase the re-baseline algorithm takes the actuals that have been entered and uses them for the new baseline. If you do this, you loose your baseline infomation completely, for tasks that contain actual values. Please help - I think MS might need to produce a bug fix, but I am not sure... This problem is preventing my company (a very large IT consulting company) from using MS Project and Project server for Earned Value Management.     - Different number of printed pages when opened by another user When I send my saved project to another user who has the same MS Proj 2003, that user opens the project and prints but the number of pages is different from mine.     - Display Problem with Project 2003 I tried searching for a solution to my problem, but not even sure how to describe the problem. I have Project 2003 installed. There was no error upon installation and have been using the program for about a month now. However, today I tried using the program and have been experiencing a problem where nothing is showing in the main display area of the software. The program opens up fine, but there is nothing in the display area. I can see the regular toolbars on top, the left pane that asks if you want to open a new project or an existing project. Even when I open a project that I have been working on, the file seems to open up because I see the antivirus program scanning the file and I see the file name on the status bar at the top. However, nothing shows up in the main display area. It's all just white. I don't see tasks, the gantt chart or anything. When I do a print, it goes through the printing process but the result is a blank page. Has anyone experienced this problem? Can someone provide me with the cause of this problem and the solution?     - Variable Delay Iâ??m working on a project which handles a multitude (about 200) of short tasks (fixed duration) with an 8 h/day working calendar (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) I can resume my problem like this: if a task can not be started and ended on the same day, it has to be delayed to the next day. Example: Task A = 5 h (fixed duration) Task B = 4 h (fixed duration) Task B can not start on the same day of Task A because there is only 8 hours working time. Task B will therefore start next day at 8 a.m. Can somebody tell me how I can set a delay for Task B which is the result of (working time) â??     - Assigning fixed cost for a contractor? Looking for some advice. An employee and contractor will be working together on the same task. The employee's cost will be based on hours while the contractor's cost is fixed. I have several tasks like this, and am trying to sort out the best way to represent this in the project plan (MS Project of course). The options, as I see it, are: 1. Enter the employees expected hours for the task (and list them as a resource) and account for the contractors cost as a Fixed Cost. The problem with this is that there is no connection between the Fixed Cost and the contractor, so if I want to, say, see a summary of the contractors tasks and cost I can't do it. 2. List the contractor as a "material" resource and assign to the task. Although this will connect the cost to the contractor, I would then need to define a "per unit" cost for the contractor, which seems a little awkward since the contractors cost will vary between the different tasks they'll be used on. 3.     - Accidental Drag and Drops Hello, Often when navagating the gantt view or when switching between Project and other applications, I will accidentally drag and drop the name of a task over the name of another task. Project does this without promting me to confim the overwrite (excel does give a prompt thankfully) so sometimes I won't even know I did it till I've done several other edits, thereby destroying the undo option.     - Crash on re-publish with Overwrite I use Project Pro SP 2 with Project Server and whenever I try to republish a task to a resource, with the "Overwrite" flag on, project crashes 99% of the time. The main problem is that the data that some people have in PWA does NOT match what is on the schedule, and I really need to republish and overwrite.     - Master/Consolidated file stays linked/creates duplicate external l I have 18 mpp Subproject files, these 18 files have external links between each other (more than 800 external links), Total activity count for all 18 files is 12K. I want to create a static master,, Iâ??ve used the following process: 1. Create a new blank file 2. Go to Insert/Project 3. Select each individual project (as a group) from the list in the Insert Project window. Iâ??ve unchecked the "link to project" option at the bottom of the Insert Project window and then hit "Insert". However, I get multiple problems. #1 â?? the files are still linked and then the external links get duplicated. (i.e. File 1_Task24 to File 2_Task58, now looks like this File 1_Task24 to File2_Task58, AND to MASTER_Task125. When Iâ??ve created a Dynamic Master it works perfectly, but I need a static Master, and would like the external links to be imbedded within the ONE file. I have seen this work in Project 2000 & 2002. From The Dynamic I have also, gone to each subproject Summary Task, Clicked on TASK INFO, and ADVANCED tab and cleared the LINK TO PROJECT box and saved as a new file.     - Duration 1 month = 1 calendar month I need help with getting the "duration" of 1month to equal one calendar month in terms of start and finish times. When I set the calendar to a 7 day work week it seems to work for a duration set in days (i.e., 365 day duration with 1/1/06 start date will show end date of 12/31/06), but if I input a duration of 12 months for that same 1/1/06 start date, it goes from 1/1/06 to 1/7/07.     - Filtered To Do Lists We make extensive use of To Do List using the "resource by date range option" which allows us to see individual reprots for team members broken out by date. However, we would like to filter out the completed tasks so the report only shows incomplete tasks. I cannot seem to produce this specific reprot. Any suggestions?     - .mpd files and external links Hi there. We save our mpp files as mpd so that we can link to the mpd via Access and generate some crosstab reports of the summary tasks. We need to link to external predecessors. We are trying to do this from one mpd to another mpd and we get a "wrong file type" error message.     - Dots after tasks on the Gantt chart Hi there I have a question regarding something dubbed the "trailing split" - i.e. dots after a task which only happens when I am using Fixed Duration tasks and I edit an individual's calendar to add non-working time. Why do the dots appear on all the tasks allocated to the resource I have edited, and why do they appear in the wrong timescale, i.e. they appear on tasks that are not in the same week as the edit I made to the calendar. I understand that the reason the dots appear on a task is because the non-working time has been incorporated into the task but I don't understand why it has to incorporate this non-working time into tasks that don't happen in the same week as the edited calendar dates. I don't want to use Fixed Units or Fixed Work as this is not appropriate for the tasks I am inputting. Thus far I have been unable to find a clear and simple explanation anywhere on the internet, can someone please help, I will be eternally grateful!     - how to make a macro run other macros Hello, I'm using Project 2003 and have stored four macros in my global.mpt. Ea macro saves off some data into a .csv file. Ea macro runs successfully when invoked by itself. After creating the four macros, I then used the GUI (as I had done with the earlier macros) to create another macro that would run the four macros in succession. It appeared as if I was successful (nothing squacked at me in the GUI) while recording this macro. But, when I tried running the macro, nothing happened. Or, more to the point, I clicked Run in the Macros dialog and the focus within the macro list jumped to the top of the macros list and the app temporarily became unresponsive. I had to click Cancel three or four times to dismiss the dialog. When I looked at the VBA, this is what I had: Sub Pubs_All() ' Macro Pubs_All ' Macro Recorded Wed 2/15/06 by Me.     - How do I view Project tasks in format similar to Outlook Calendar I am trying to use Microsoft Project 2003. I have set up my tasks, but don't really like the limited calendar views in Project. I'd rather have views similar to those in Outlook Calendar, where I could look at my tasks one week at a time, with information on what to do each hour. It appears, from looking at the Gantt chart, that Project has actually scheduled my tasks on an hourly basis, but the format is hard to view. Is there a way to either export my Project tasks to Outlook, or get it to a format similar to that in Outlook?     - VBA Macro for MSPP 2003 I am wondering if it is possible to write a VBA Macro that will copy an MSExcel Worksheet into MSPP2003. the Excel worksheet consists of a combined estimate sheet from four different departments with in our company. The four different departments are totalized so only one column of estimated hurs will have to be read/copied, however, (this is the real crux of the problem), when osting to our standard MSPP template the hours must be distributed by perctentage of total hours and probably up to a maximum of 7 different resource types for each task. I plan on using some generic resource place holders, once the plan is prepared I will assign resources from our Enterprise Resource Database. Will this be possible to using VBA?     - Hiding task bar for nonworking time on an individual basis I know how to make the taskbar hide behind nonworking time (Format - Timescale - Non-working time - Draw in front of task bars), but I can't specify this on a resource-by-resource basis. So I have a contractor who only comes in 2 days a week, but her task bar spans a full 5-day work week, making it look like she's in all week.     - Project ASAP/ALAP dates at the same time. I want to be able to see the ASAP dates and ALAP dates at the same time without needing to make two passes. If ASAP date and ALAP dates are different this means not crtical path task that can be performed anytime within the difference window. For example if I want to schedule a constrained resource it nice to be able to see the date range that will allow me to succesfully finish the task and allow the scheduler of that equipment the maximum flexiablity. Currently Project does allow you to create this date range but to do so I must go and change all the constraint type and set the Project inforamtion to the correct finish date and re-calculate.     - Printing Issue I will say before I ask this question that I might be going about this incorrectly. The company I work for handles multiple projects at the same time, I am sure most companies are like this. For the most part, all of the jobs run through multiple departments, and the majority of the projects use the same departments with only one or two exceptions. What I am trying to do is to create seperate projects for each department and then combine them. From what little training that I have had, this should work, but this is not my issue. My issue is that when I go to print out the different Gantt Charts for the different department, they print to different sizes. I went through the Print window and did not find anything that I thought would fix this issue. Has anyone had this issue before? Any help would be greatly appreciated.     - Assignment Units on the Resource Usage view I have a question about the Assignment Units column in the Resource Usage view in Project Pro 2003. It seems that this field behaves as a resource (future) allocation percentage until Actual Work is posted against a task, then it behaves as a high-water mark resource (current) utilization percentage. It seems that this field will go up but not down, and cannot always be modified once Actual Work is entered. I have the need to be able to either: 1) reset this column to reflected adjusted allocation percentages, or 2) use this figure to predict future resource allocations for each task. I am using Project 98 to cost my resources that charge variable rates
depending on what time they work. Example, normal working day (9-5) is
charged at a normal rate, any time after that is overtime. The first 2
hours of overtime is charged at time and a half and any hours after
that (or weekends) is charged at double time. The problem of-course is
that Project only allows 1 Overtime field. Using an additional Cost
Table doesn't help because they are task specific. Any help please???

The only compromise is to adjust the number of hours so the cost is correct,
but the hours wrong or add extra cost to the Fixed Cost field.
