I don't know that it matters (as long as you have appropriate
permissions). You can make the file anywhere you want (again, as long
as permissions are ok).
Why don't you change that setting to something else that you know you
have write privileges to. I use c:\temp and then after created I move
them to where they should go (which always some other particular but
changing) file folder.
Another way to avoid the problem is to use the Adobe PDF Maker (another
way which avoids Distiller).
Also, check out www.adobe.com for support FAQ's. This is probably a
problem already discussed there.
