Simple Question...I think

Does anyone know how configure Project so that even though you have an
existing project open you and open another one and it appears in a seperate
window? This would allow for toggleing back and fourth?

Thanks

Hi Jeff,

You don't mention what release of project you are using, but what I
believe you are describing already exists in Project. If I open
mulitple files, each file opens in its own window which appears in the
task bar at the bottom of the screen. Check that the option "Windows in
Taskbar" is enabled under the Show portion on the View tab of the Tools
> Options dialog box.

Alt + Tab switching works as well.

If you are looking for multiple sessions of MS Project, I'm afraid that
is not possible.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Do you mean that you want to have different simultaneous views of the
same project open?

If so then Window/New Window allows you to open the same project in
another window in the same Project frame. You can then repeat this
process to open as many different views of it as you want. To arrange
them, use Window/Arrange.

Then each of those views can be split (although the behaviour at this
point is a little quirky - you may have to select Windows/Remove Split
then Windows/Split as the application only appears to expect one active
view for a given project) as they can be when there is only one active view.

Hi Julie,

I am using MS Project Professional 2003. I validated the settings that you
suggested. Perhaps I should be more clear on my question. I use dual
monitors on one PC while I work. When I am working in Excel or Word I
frequntly have one version of the document open one monitor and another
version open on the other monitor. This way I can view them simultaneously.
Is this possible in Project?

Thanks!

Hello Jeff,

I don't work with dual monitors, so all I can suggest is the postings I
have seen on this topic:
Window > New Window to open two windows of the same file (as suggested
by Dave) and then drag the second window to the new monitor.

A quick google groups search seemed to show the same advice. Sorry I
can't be of more help -- perhaps someone else will weigh in if there are
additional options.

Hi Jeff,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

You cannot have two copies of Microsoft Project open at the same time, so
you cannot put one on one monitor and load another on the other monitor.
However, as Dave said, if you open different windows and Arrange All via the
Windows menu, you will see a copy of your open project. If you now click
and drag the corner of the whole window across both monitors, then do the
same with one of the project windows to one monitor, then click and drag to
make both fit, you will get what you want. However, both monitors show one
open Project and you'll have to click on the appropriate monitor to make one
active and use the menus of Project on whichever monitor it is on. Easier
to do than explain!

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)
