    - MSP2003 Standard end users willing to train me Dear All Are there any MSP2003 Standard end users willing to train me in specific areas, for the way our specific business uses MS Project? I schedule our crews/individuals (and plant/machinery) for civil/earth works, and electrical underground construction works and electrical lineworks. I have completed the "Introduction to MS Project" in Dec 06 and have been using MSP2003 and the advanced areas such as inserting customised columns, editing reports (Who does What When) etc. We use MS Project to the full extent (minus the costing). As stated above, i have done the Intro Course but need training from a daily user, to review what and how I am using the application and the little errors that occur.     - Earned Value Report I am a brand new user and need to create an Earned Value Report for a class. I've entered planned resources and costs, saved a baseline, changed percentage of completion for some tasks and entered actual costs. The variance amount shows in the cost table but when I try to display an Earned Value Report all I get are zeros. (I also did a manual calculation on the project.) What am I doing wrong?     - Techniques for entering multiple timesheet codes against a single My company has just been spun-off from two giants. We have an opportunity to implement some new processes. I am interested in encouraging them to integrate timesheets, project planning/tracking, and Outlook task assignments. Unfortunately, my company has numerous time codes that can be assigned to any specific task. There is one primary code (which would be easy enough to implement), but then team members must add subcodes like "regular", "paid overtime", "unpaid overtime", and on and on.     - Change print display dates for a gantt chart I am using microsoft project 2003 and I used an old schedule for a template. I adjusted all the gantt dates for the project and I can see it on the screen, but when I do a print preview the gantt chart is still displaying the timefield from the template I used and nothing is displayed in the chart area.     - Dynamic tables in MS Project 2000 I am currently tracking a Project. I designed a personalized view with the baseline and actual data to help me with the tracking. However, the deadlines are very short and baselines change frequently. So I need to change the baseline over and over (I'm working on the third baseline). The problem is that every time I update the baseline, my personalized view gets out of date and I have to redesign it again. Is there a method in which I can define a dynamic column?     - Almost there need a bit of help I am currently working on a macros that will take the percent complete from an excel sheet and copy it to my project file. Currently I have it to do a VLOOKUP on column A in excel with the Task Name in Project. if those are okay it will copy the percent over to project. That was easy enough to write. The problem I am having is I need it to look at and compare 2 columns in excel and validate them with Task name and Text6 column in Project before it will copy the percent complete from the excel sheet to Project. When I go to "Delete Enterprise Objects>Delete projects only from Published database" from Project Web Access it lists Enterprise Global as "Inactive Global" under the Type heading.     - Understanding the import merge key When importing/merging from Excel using a map, I've specified a Merge Key for each table coming in; tasks, resources, and assignments. The basic concept of this key makes sense so the correct record can be matched and updated. However, I am trying to find out more about how Project uses this as I am baffled by an error that I think relates to my lack of understanding this mechanism. I'm importing from a workbook with a tasks, resources, and assignments tab. I've assigned a text field as the merge field for all three. This imports without error for the Tasks and Resources, even with non-numeric text in the field. However, for the Assignments table, if that field contains text and not a number I get an error dialog with this message, "The number you entered is invalid or it is outside the range for a Number field. Make sure you are typing only numbers and no letters or other characters in this field, or type a smaller number." Again, this only occurs for the Assignments table. If I change the value in the Assignments merge key field to a number instead of text, the error goes away. And it seems that the Assignments merge key is relating to the Unique ID field in the task list, regardless of what I specify as the merge key in the Tasks table. Is the Import mechanism hard-wired to relate the assigments merge key to *only* the Unique ID field? Aside from my specific problem (which I probably didn't explain clearly enough), can someone either explain more about the merge key to me or point me to some source for a deeper explanation than is in the basic MS Project help? With fixed duration tasks, changes in the labor estimates or duration, dynamically changes the % allocated of the resources assigned. I have a (non human) resource associated with some tasks. This resource is a â??Labâ?? needed for the execution of specific tasks. This resource, like all assigned resources, has a limited capacity. Adding this resource to a task increases the â??Workâ?? associated a fixed duration task. Because the resource is not a human resource, I do not want â??Labâ?? to increase the â??Workâ?? when added to a task. Adding â??Labâ?? to appropriate tasks, with an availability of 100% (8 hr./day, Mon â?? Fri), I can see, like other resources, when the resource is over allocated. I know then that I have to consider working more than one shift to maintain overall schedule. In actuality, using the Lab does not increase the labor estimate for a taskâ?¦ but MSP does increase the â??Workâ?? when any additional resources are added to a fixed duration task. I canâ??t seem to get MSP to allow me to add a resource (with an availability of 100% (8 hr./day, Mon â?? Fri)), without increasing the â??Workâ?? for that task. Iâ??m essentially trying to do capacity planning for the lab. Bottom line â?? I want to add a resource to a task, with an availability of 100% (8 hr./day, Mon â?? A typical project is broken down by Project>Phase>Iteration>Milestone>Task. During the course of a project, the schedule is regularly changed to meet the constraints imposed by a common pool of resources. This results in a substantial amount of time redeveloping large schedules time and time again. In particular, the task dependencies and task duration are constantly shifting.     - Error updating assignments imported from Excel I'm importing tasks, resources and assignements from Excel, using a map and following the great information from various other posts. I'm having a problem when importing updated assignments. I have a resource assigned to a task and it imports just fine the first time. I change the Work value in the assignment record in Excel and then import it again. When I do, I get an error dialog with this message, "You cannot have the same resource assigned twice to the same task. To have the same person work at different times on the same task use resource contouring." I am importing Unique_ID, Task_ID (Text 1), Task_Name, Resource_Name, and Work. I'd like to save it in a 2003 file format, and password protect it at the same time. When I select "Microsoft Project 2000-2003" as the "Save as type", then all of the password fields are disabled when I select tools->general options on the "Save As" dialogue box.     - Proj 2003. Adjusting task duration according to Resource Availabil I am using Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003. I have defined my project, added all the tasks with expected durations, and organised all these tasks into phases. All the durations were calculated at the planning stage based on a single resource working 100% of their time on the task. All the task are 'Fixed Unit' type and 'Effort Driven'. I am now at the stage where I want to setup and assign the available resources, and I have run into a couple of problems. I am anticipating that a proportion of the resources assigned to the project will be working at about 80% productivity. It seemed that the easiest way to represent this information in Project was to open up the Resource Information for the pertinent resources and change their 'Resource Availability' to 80%. However, when I assign a resource with a lower than 100% availability to a task, it does not adjust the duration accordingly. It seems to be making the assumption that the duration was initially calculated with the lower availability in mind. If you then change the resource to someone with a different 'Resource Availability' it does change the duration. I had a read through the help - and although I couldn't ascertain for certain, I believe this is the intended behaviour? I made the assumption this was the case, and tried an alternative approach. I changed the Resource Availability back to 100% via the Resource Information dialogue. On the Gantt Chart I then assigned this resource to the relevant tasks. I then went back to the Resource Information and changed the Resources Availability down to 80%. The task duration did not change - I had to re-assign the same resource manually to get it to update correctly. I couldn't find anyway of getting the task duration to update automatically when changing the availability of a resource. I even tried levelling - and this just reported it as an error. I would be surprised if this was the expected behaviour? Can you recommend an alternative approach, or an option I may be missing?     - value list base calculation I defined an Enterprise Number Field from type Number on a Task level that indicates to which department the task belongs: 1,2,3 or 4. The numbers are defined in the Value List.     - Problem with alignment of project web page Hi, I have an .mpp file I am trying to save as web. I click save as web, use existing map and the "Who does what", and the web page is created. The issue is that the "resource and assignment" column is aligned to the right instead of to the left. The result is, instead of such a structure: task1 task23 etc. instead of: task1 task23 etc. I couldn't find how to change this. Does anyone have a clue on how to resolve? Thanks, Amir.     - PWA activity not auto populating We recently implemented a project 07 server including project web access (PWA). I am trying to create an activity or proposal in PWA. I enter all of the required information in summary information and then begin entering information on the work details screen. When I enter a new task, it should populate with the line number 1,2,3, etc. and I cannot enter the number manually. If I try to save the work details without the number assignment, I receive the following error, "Failed to enable constraints. Does anybody know if it possible to display more than one resource at a time
in the resource graph in Project 2003 ? I have 5 resources that I wish to
display at the same time in one view. I can do this by exporting to Excel,
but was wondering if it is possible to do it directly in Project ??
