    - Captial vs. Expense Is there an easy way to classify a task as capital or expense? Perhaps setting a text field or something. My goal is to either sum up all the Cap and Exp items to come up with budget number for each and actual tracking once the project begins.     - Cost vs Billing Hello, Currently I'm using project to track my resources, time estimates, and some invoicing projections. I wanted to expand it to track the cost of a project against what we billed for the project, to track the gain/loss. Some of the things I want to include are Hardware purchase price Hardware resale price Employee Hourly cost to my company Employee Hourly billable rate to the customer Fixed price cost of a task. I would then like to correlate this into a report to perhaps show monthly or quarterly the financial status of a project, as well as the work load status. Is this even possible with Project?     - status indicators formula Hello I need some help on a formula that can show graphical indicators for the below. I know how to set graphical indicators once a criteria is returned and I also know that there is a 'Status Indicator' column that can be used to provide about 60-70% of my requirements but am having trouble with setting up a formulat that can enable me to identify tasks as per below: NO INDICATOR - Tasks where the start date is greater than 3 weeks from today, i.e. Future Tasks RED - a) All tasks that have a Baseline finish or start that is different to the scheduled finish or start or b) Tasks that are not started and the start date is earlier than today. YELLOW - a) Tasks that are started but the end date is coming up in 3 weeks, or b) the expected % complete is less than the actual % complete for today.     - email collaboration I am using email collaboration for external resources because our Project Server is not setup with an external facing web site. Many of these resources use HTTP email to communicate. Getting the WorkGroup emails to them is not a problem and neither is opening it and replying. But the reply always goes to the Outlook outbox. Is there a way to get it routed to the Outlook Express outbox instead? Or is there a way to move the mail from the Outlook outbox to the Outlook Express outbox.     - Reschedule Unstarted tasks - dont like the constraint Hello Experts, I like to use the "Reschedule Uncompleted work" command in MS Project but i have two problems with it. 1- I dont want to reschedule tasks that have already started. I only want to do so for unstarted tasks (Actual Start = NA) 2- I dont like the fact that Project assigns a constraint for the tasks. is there a way (probably a macro) that can push the task to the desired date(data date) by extending its predecessor(s) duration. That is one of the distinctions between Primavera and microsoft Project. Primavera will not let you keep an unstarted task in the past. help is always appreciated.     - is this the right software for me? I am an IT guy for a development company who has about 4 developers, 2 sales and an acquisitions person (more employees coming soon). I am looking for a good project management software that has "bug tracking" capabilies for my developers. I want to know if this is relatively easy to use and will it do what I am looking for it to do. Right now I have the Microsoft Action Pack and have Access to the Microsoft Projects.     - Limiting Resource Usage View to a Specicf project on Project Svr I'm the Project Server Admin for our company. When I review Resource Usage on my cptr. it only displays the task the resources are assigned to for that project (2003). When other users look at Resource Usage their view shows all tasks on all projects their resources have been assigned to.     - How do you import multiple resources from Excel to MS Project? Hi, I am trying to import tasks into Project 2003 with multiple resources assigned. I have a map that very successfully brings task name, start, and duration from Excel into my Project file. I have another map that adds in Resource Name, Work, and Actual Work. If I just have one resource per task, I don't have a problem; however, if I have two or more, it will only import the first resource and ignore the rest. Is there a way to do this? Thanks!     - Project server config - beginner question Hi all, i am a asp.net / C# Developer who recently was charged with setting up and configuring project server. I know only the basics of project and need some help. So couple questions: 1) I set it up in enterprise mode. I read the admin guide and decided on this because we have about 10 core members (who will be using project) we all work on many different projects and i wanted a consistant calendar for all projects. Now that its set up im having problems understanding the Global Template and the fact that i cannot upload my projects because they dont conform to the global template.     - Superior task, where start date and end date defines the earliest start and the latest date of subordinate tasks I am trying again. Now WITH a subject :-) Hi I have some tasks that has to be executed within a time span defined by a start date and an end date. I want to see a superior (Level 1) task, where start date and end date defines the earliest start date and the latest end date of all subordinate (Level 2) tasks. If I accidentally go beyond the bound dates given by the superior task the tasks should be marked specially or a warning should pop up. Have anyone "out there" an idea how I solve this problem? In the very end I am going to write a VBA-macro, that create both the superior task and the subordinate tasks.     - Able to change default rule for collapsing and expanding tasks Hello, When I click on a Summary Task by default every task underneath it is expanded. This results in my having to go to each '-' sign and select it so that the tasks collapse again. I know I can use the outline levels but this doesn't work well for me b/c in one project I basically have several different events I am planning for.     - PWA Timesheet and not entering a Zero value in actual Work Hi We are going to start using PWA for the first time in our enterprise and I'm a newbie with tools. I heard through the grapevine that if an assigned resource on a current task doesnâ??t enter the value 0 in the act. work, this could have an impact on the schedule or in the way background calculation is done. In other word, if no value is entered (keeping the field to NULL), we can have some issue. I want to ask to resources to enter a zero when they have not work on a task during a day. As you can imagine, they will probably be have some objections to do it asking to me why PWA doesn't understand a null to be as a zero. What is the impact of not enter a zero. Is the impact is affecting the schedule? I did some test and the progress into MS-Project is working correctly using Null or a zero in Percentage completed. Is the impact is then more related on budget or on resource usage calculation? Can you please, explain to me the importance to enter a zero instead of just keeping the null value into PWA?     - Making row height adjustments permanent Can anyone tell me how I can make my manual row height adjustments permanent so that they remain after I close and reopen my schedule?     - Scheduling back from a milestone date I am using a contractors Programme of key delivery dates to setup a commissioning programme for our company. Basically I am working back from these key dates to look to what needs to be done, the relationship I have been using is a start to finish relationship which seemed to work fine. I was however also using a late as possible constraint to move my tasks forward to this date. This is fine for a simple programme but I found that for our contractors programme the sub task which drive the completion date defaults to the larger hammock on the contractors programme.     - Project cannot open the file We just installed Project Server 2003 in our team. I created a resource pool and, resource groups which are : Project Managers and Team members. We use Windows authentication. Only Project Managers have access to Project Professional 2003. Others have access to PWA. To the rest of the Project Managers (around 20people), they can access the server and the files in the server. For 2 Project Managers they can access the server but they can't access the file in the server. The error message given are : Project cannot open the file.     - Circular Relationships I've inherited yet another bastardized Project file! This time when I open the file I get a mesage each time informing me that there is a circular reference problem (sample message below). Each time I resolve a circular reference, I save the file & close out. Upon re-opening, I'm greeted with yet another CR problem...it's a never-ending cycle. All suggestions or ideas appreciated. --Randy No calculations can be performed now. There is a circular reference in task 569 Labeling of <project file name>. The successors of this task refer back to the task or its predecessors, causing a circular reference. To remove the link that is causing the circular reference, select the two tasks that are causing the circular link, and then click Unlink Tasks on the Standard Toolbar.     - Why do headings to summary tasks calculate incorrectly? When I put in work, actual work, and remaining work hours, project calculates incorrectly for main header task. For example, I have a heading, sub-heading, then task list. I have work hours entered for the task list, and the sub-heading calculates correctly. However, the main header calculates way too many hours (for example I have manually put in 14 hours of actuals, and the main heading says there are 74...sub heading says the correct 14 hours), and can be manipulated by changing start and finish dates. I don't want start and finish dates to affect ANY work numbers. I only want dates as references, not as active parts of the project.     - Single column Indenture from MS Project to Excel I am trying to keep the indenture that MS Project has when I export to Excel. I have seen several macros that indent by moving the indenture into the next cell. We have a test/dev environment and a prod. We use the test to add new fields/
views/ reports/ etc. I want to be able to migrate all of the enterprise user
defined fields, views, reports, menu's, security settings, groups, etc
without migrating the data or users. Is there a way to do this? I have been
searching and I found how to migrate views but I need to do more than just
that. Thanks for any help.
