    - Scheduling and resource allocation Is there a setting in project that can be changed to prevent it from changing the time line on my scheduled tasks based on the resources allocated to those tasks? I know Project adjusts the timelines based on how many resources are available and what percentage of that resource is allocated to the task, but I dont like that. I do not want my schedulling to be so automated. Rather, I want to schedule to task myself and then have the timeline stay just as I set it after I have assigned resources, no matter how many I assign. I have no intention of managing the time or work my resources have attributed to a project. I siomply want to have a logical sequence of the tasks, establish the timeline and assigne accountability.     - Am I using multiple resources correctly? Hi, I've got a question about multiple resources. I've had a look through the FAQ and searched through some old posts, but I couldn't find anyone with the same problem. I've got two developers and two tasks. Task A (50 hours of work) can only be done by Bob, but Task B (100 hours of work) can be done by either Bob or Steve (or both together). I'd like to able to level resources to find the minimum duration for these tasks, but I'm not sure how to do this. The solution that I'd like is for Bob to work on Task A until it is complete, during which time Steve will work on Task B. Once Bob has finished he can help Steve with the remaining 50 hours of work on Task B, which should take a further 25 hours. So the total duration is 75 hours (50 hours with Bob on Task A and Steve on Task B, 25 hours with both on Task B). If I assign Bob to Task A and both developers to Task B, then level resources, then they are assigned as I expect for the first 50 hours, but Steve then stops work whilst Bob continues to toil on Task B for the next 50 hours. I can resolve the problem by manually redistributing the work on Task B so Bob does 25 hours and Steve does 75, but I'd like this to happen automatically. Is this possible? As an example, I currently have a task with 1 person assigned at 1% (Units) with a duration of 90 days, but the start date is 12/14 and the finish date is 12/31. I've removed the Effort Driven constraint because it sounds like something I wouldn't want to use and I've aslo made it a Fixed Duration task type...though ideally my duration will only be about 5 days, and the total work will be 2 hrs.     - Pasting relative predecessors in an existing schedule I am working with several large project files in which I need to update repeated tasks to many "machines". The updates include changes to the durations of these tasks (which you can easily copy and paste between the machines) and changes to the predecessors. This where I need assistance. I am using Project 2003 in a large corporation, so have no ability to upgrade if that is the solution. So, what I am looking to do is update one set of tasks for a machine and then copy those changes relatively to the next machines, so the tasks stay linked inside those machine tasks.     - Calculating total duration Hello, MS Project 2003: I have one big enhancement ex. EDD2000 and then 23 enhancements that make up EDD2000. So on my MS project plan, on the first line under task is EDD2000 and when you "expand" it you see all 23 enhancements which can all be expanded to see their tasks.     - Import\Save\Publish One Particular Project Running Project Pro\Project Server 2003 I have one particular project that I cannot save to the server nor publish. This is the only one I am having problems with. The importing of .mpp files, as well as saving them to project server as a published plan and publishing information works normally except for one specific project plan. There is nothing unusual about it: several hundred tasks, a mix of enterprise and local resources (with local being assigned to the NONE workgroup). It's driving me crazy, and if it weren't for the fact that it is several hundred lines, and the spectre of this happening on another project, I'd just manually recreate it. When I try to save it, it times out.     - How do I organise 90 tasks in a 5 day period? My team of 6 people has to complete 90 tasks in 5 working days. The allocation of the task should be so that each resource takes about 40 hours to complete all tasks. It does not matter to the project in what order each of them complete their tasks. It also does not matter if they are not doing any tasks on any particular day, all tasks need to be finished at the end of the 5th day. How can I realise this in project. If I put in a duration of a day or less project signals that all tasks need to be done on the first day and obviously the resources are then displayed as overworked. If I put in that each task only takes x% of a resources time and I then put into project when it was actually started and actually finished Project doesn't accept the actual work done on the task, and when I enter the actual work done on the task, it changes the duration again. Mike,

As you are using Project server, I suggest re-posting your question to
the server newsgroup. Although many of the server "gurus" do visit this
site, they are more focused on the server newsgroup and you may get a
quicker answer there.
