I would like limit use of resources to only those that are listed on the
Resource Sheet. Currently, names typed incorrectly whilst in the Gantt Chart
view are saved as a new resource. How can I prevent this?

Hi Liz,

You can't completely prevent,but almost.
In tools, options, general, cross out
"Automatically add new reources and tasks"
After that when someone makes typo in the resporce names field thater will
be a warning message.
It is still possible to force the entry as a new resource but one will not
do it accidentally.
Hope this helps,

Liz,
You can't really prevent it but you can set an option to get a warning if
the operator types a new resource name :
Tools / Options / General : uncheck "Add automatically new resources..."

NB : use the Assign Resources dialog and its Assign button to avoid this
risk...
