    - changed working time - task start/end date remained unchanged Hello, I have changed the working time of a resource as off work and also busy with business as usual task, however the start and end date of the tasks have not changed to reflect the the resource unavailability for those tasks. I suspect this is due to the fact that I am meant to first amend the working times and subsequently to assign the resource accordingly, depending on their availability.     - Inclusive Start & Finish Dates I have MS Project 2003. If I enter a duration of 5 days I would expect the (eg) start date to be Monday 19th & to finish on Friday 23rd but it shows a finish date of Monday 26th.     - Remaining Duration Hi All :-) I know I'm doing something wrong but I can't spot it - it's driving me nuts!!! I have tasks that are in progress with actual start dates & % completes filled in. However, where these are behind schedule (ie behind the new status date) the remaining duration is calculated from the progress point (ie the complete through date) not the status date. Basically I want it to show a task with three weeks remaining from the status date, not 6 weeks from the progress point which is 4 weeks behind the status date so only shows a bar two weeks beyond the status date. I guess this is something to do with a switch on the tools/options menu but I've tried all the combinations and none seem to make any difference.     - how do i change the std rate? The standard rate in the resource sheet by default is $0.00/hr. When i change it to $0.00/day (Tools-Options-view-default standard rate-set as default), it takes $0.00/day in the resource sheet when i enter the resource name.     - Naming Hi There, I want to have the name of the parent cell displayed alongside the gantt bars of the children cells. If I had a task called, lets say, 'Chocolate Production' which containned a number of sub-tasks such as 'grind cocoa beans', I would want the have 'Chocolate Production' displayed next to all the subtasks on the Gantt.     - Can I use MS Project for this? Hello, I work for a company that builds custom machines for marking. Each machine is unique. We have limited resources, man hours, machine hours... Each machine is considered to be a project. Is it possible, using MS Project, to have common resources for all projects so that a machine isn't used by two projects at the same time?     - Incorrect Dates on Reschedule of Incomplete Work I am updating a task progress as usual by entering an Actual Start date. Since the task is incomplete, I specify the Remaining Duration and then Update Project, Reschedule Incomplete Work to start after the status date. When this is done, Project changes the Remaining Duration from the value that I set to a lower value. This normally occurs if a task is set as Fixed duration but in this case all my tasks are Fixed Units.     - How do I transfer macros from one machine to another? I have several macros that I wrote and I want to put them on a new computer I just received. I tried transferring the module with the code to a project, saving the project, going to the new machine, opening the project and transferring the module to the new machine's global. I don't get any errors and I can open the module on the new machine and see the various procedures but they don't show up in Tools, Macros. Please help!     - Project 2007 Issues I converted a project from Project 2003 to Project 2007 so I could use the cell background color feature and to do some grouping. I set a custom Group-By (Resource name then Severity) and set each of these group-bys a different color. I noticed when I added the group-by, that it didn't keep all the columns in the grouping.(the would appear white to the left of the grouping color). I then noticed that when I tried to insert a field when on the first column of the grouping (Task Name) that they would insert to the left of Task Name, however they would be outside the grouping. Trying to hide the "Task Name" column would remove the Group By and I couldn't find it again to add it back (Insert Column). I wanted to have another column as the first column...but looks like the "Task Name" column can only be the first column... I changed the background color of a row to Aqua, and it did change the background color of all cells except for this "Task Name" cell while in Gant Chart view. When I goto to Print Preview, all cells for this row are colored Aqua including this "Task Name" cell.     - Slack Time Not Correct-Cannot Figure Out Why My college class textbook has a diagram and it is set-up like the following. Task F will not be shown to have 12 days of start-slack. Task F, dependent on Task A in a finish-start relationship, could start as early as day 5, after Task A is completed, or as late as day 17, to make sure that the task is completed by day 20. Why won't MS-Project show 17 days of start-slack, or how could this problem to eliminated so that MS-Project WILL show 17 days of start-slack? Under the predecessors, the numbers represent A-F.     - Project Resource Allocation I have a master project that I am using for a resource pool. We are mostly utilizing this resource pool as a task tracker for certain teams. My question is when tasking an individual out, should the team requesting the resource task them out or should the team that holds the resource task the individual(s) out. And when they do, what percentages should be used. From what I understand the 100% units is part of the standard calendar day in this case 8 hours. So should it be 100/8 or if there is just that one task a full 100 %. But then the other project managers would see that resource as being allocated out for the day.     - Visual Report - Create Report Error I have a trial version of Project 07 that I am evaluating. I am trying to run the "earned value over time report" visual report. When I select "view", it states gathering reporting data, then building local OLAP cubes, and then I get an error. The error box states "An unknown error has occurred.     - Merge from Excel - Resource Sheet - When save they turn to empty f I'm merging materials from our BOM system using excel. The BOM information is exported to excel and i have an existing map i'm using. I'm using the resource name as the the merge key - since these resources are materials, the BOM system has a unique name for each resource. When i merge the BOM excel file, it adds new resources to the resource as Type = Materials. I have about 4 new resources being added in addition to the updates to existing resources and everything seems to work just fine. However, when i save (i'm using project server 2003 and have a checked out project schedule), the resource sheet appears to re-sort itself and it makes the newly added resources as 4 empty/blank values ...the data seems to disapper.     - Use of Central Resource Pool causes crashes in Project 2003 profes Hi, I am using Project 2003 professional within my organisation and I am building a small workgroup of about 5 or 6 projects all using a central resource pool. I have set this up successfully once before. However this time as I try to share resources from the resource pool Microsoft project tells me an error occured and it has to close project down.     - Master Plan Hi guys I have created an overall master plan and with 6 different streams: Service Training Operations Data Finance Warranty Each of the above I have created a single task in the master plan and then asked the stream leaders to create their individual plans and then linked their plan to mine. This is so it helps when they ever change their plan, mine is automatically updated. There are 6 key milestones, which I have input into my overall plan, and each of the streams has to ensure that they adhere to the key milestones in my master plan. My question is can this filer down to their plan from mine or do thay have to insert the milestones into their individual plans? There are also dependencies in between stream plans as well, how can these be linked?     - Stipulating printing dates to print from and to within "Print" men Within the "Print" menu I can enter the dates that I would like to print from and to , which I have to assume referes to the dates I have entered into the "Start Task" and "Finish Task" columns of my project plan. However, the Print Preview does not seem to be affected by this alteration and commonly either does not display all the required dates (e.g. leaving off a few months information from the Gantt chart), or displays too much of the project plan (e.g. projects that are beginning later than the dates I have stipulated.     - Colors available in MSP 2007 Back on 2-15-07 Rod Gill mentioned that 2007 has more colors available. I was wondering where do I go to get more color choices? The same ones as in 2003 are available in my 2007. In fact the lime, aqua and fushia look a lot 'lighter' or 'washed out' and less vivid in 2007. I use these colors quite a bit and now you can hardly see them on the colored printouts. I suppose this happened because some people might want to use them as background colors.     - MSProject entered WBS values not correct in Resource Usage view I've created a resource schedule in Microsoft Project Standard 2003. In this I've mainatined my own values for WBS. When I swicth to the Resource Usage view WBS values I've entered are not all displayed. Some entries have outline numbers others have the values I've displayed. If I go back to the Gnatt view and enter some of the WBS values again (i.e. type over with the same entry) then the values in the Resource Usage view begin to be populated.     - Displaying non-working time within Gantt charts on the Print Previ I have allocated the non-working time (both weekends and public holidays) within our annual overall programme of works. This I have sitting in front of the Gantt bars in red which is all clearly displayed within MS Project (Standard 2003). However, when trying to view the details in the Print Preview screen the highlighted non-working time is not visible. I have checked all the rest of the details it also appears that the time-scale displays all days with the exception of Wednesday each week over the period of a year. I can therefore see the allocated vertical column when the Saturday and Sunday (e.g.) should be highlighted, but they are not on the print preview screen. Has anyone got any advise as I have tried everything I can think of, including scaling the overall programme down to a quarterly overview which then displayed the non-working time, but only for the initial 2 months of the programme (possibly a different issue).     - Order Tasks Properly HI, I am new to Project and am using MS Proj 2007. I used a work breakdown structure program to get all the tasks in and then migrated to MS Project. In my GANT chart, my7 tasks are out of order, but all under the right headings and I have long arrows all over the place. I have now put all arrows in and want to order the tasks according to time so there is a nice waterfall effect on my GANT chart. Does anyone know how to do this?     - Mass change of an external link I currently have 13 different subprojects. My Manager requested that change the names of all the files. I am looking to see if there is an easy way of changing all the external links for each file at once. For example: The original name of a file is Manufacturing.mpp, and my manager wants me to change it to Operations.mpp. Since Manufacturing is linked to 12 other files, I would like to do something similar to a find/replace "Manufacturing" with "Operations" (I tried that, and it does not work).     - Why won't MS Project allow relationship between two successive tas I am taking a project management class and we are to enter in a diagram from our text book. The problem occurs when we get to Task D and Task E. Task E is predecessed by Task D in a start-start relationship with a lag time of 2 days. Task E also has a finish-finish relationship with D with a lag time of 2 days. When I enter this in, I get an error message. Why won't MS-Project allow both a start-to-start and a finish-to-finish relationship between two successive tasks? Another quirk in this problem is that in MS-Project, Task F will not be shown to have 12 days of start-slack. Task F, dependent on Task A in a finish-start relationship, could start as early as day 5, after Task A is completed, or as late as day 17, to make sure that the task is completed by day 20.     - Task duration based on units in task and resource capacity for uni Need to complete 500 tasks. Each task is unit driven with varying number of units. (eg a task requires 10 units to be build before it is completed). I have 8 resource teams. Each team can build a different # of units per hour. Duration of each task depends on the assignment of teams to a task. I cannot seem to designate a number of units (items to build) to a task, and a units per hour rate to a resource so the duration adjusts to the resource capacity.     - EPM FE partial communication with BE Setup: Database Server, App Server || Firewall || Web Front End Almost everything else works except the following issue: On the Home page, the Risks and Issues categories are displaying the following error message: "There is a problem establishing a connection with the Web server running Windows SharePoint Services. Contact your system administrator." WSS works fine, configuration is ok since runing the app on the App server behaves normally. It looks to me like the problems is with the firewall, but puzzling is the fact that the connection ot WSS works fine if clicking on Risks or Issues on the top menu bar. Projects are displayed, and from there I can drill down to risks/issues. Any hint is welcome at this point. I've tried using proxycfg with no success. I've checked all account permissions and it all looks good (it works behind the firewall - app-db server only). It's definitely communication issue.
