    - Updating Work I am updating my schedule with work in the future. However, I have one task that automatically inserts actual work as well if I enter work before a certain date (04/25/07). I have changed the type work and removed successors and predecessors, but that does not seem to help. I have also checked the resource pool link to ensure no one is on vacation or off and that does not help either. Any ideas why this may be happening? Thanks in advance for your assistance.     - MS Project on server for multiple users to access Hi, I have a customer who wants several people to be able to access MS Project 2007. The issue is that the users need to access it maybe once every month or two so to go out and buy several copies of Project seems a waste. Short of sharing a PC (physically or via RDP) or installing on a terminal server is there any other way around this?     - Master Project File- MS Project Standard 2003 Hi- I'm having issues with my master project list not reflecting information that is on the sharer files summary line. 1- I open a new project file 2- Import all my project files 3- Certain columns that are in summary lines of the sharer files are not linking/importing data up to the master project file (Cost Variance, Baseline Budget, Description which is linked from File Properties-->Comments-->linked to Notes column, Project Manager, Phase (added text file) etc.) This feels like a really basic problem- I'm convinced it is user error (me!).     - Project Pro 2007 load error Hi, I recently installed Project Pro 2007 and everytime I try to open it up it does alot of configuration stuff and after about 5 minutes shows the following error: There is not enough memory to complete the operation. To free up available memory, close programs, projects, or windows you aren't using, and then try again. I have 2 GB of RAM that is not even half used so I am completely at a loss, Office Ultimate and Visio Pro 2007 all work fine. I think that is all the relevant info, oh, event viewer shows nothing useful either and I am running Vista Ultimate. If you need anymore info let me know.     - Upgrade from 95 to 2007? I searched for a thread on this but didn't see one...I apologize if this has been covered. I recently started with a company that's working with MP 98. The side panel on the 2007 upgrade box doesn't list 98 as upgradeable to 2007. I ordered MP 2003 for this reason, but rec'd 2007 with a note saying they can't get 2003 anymore.     - Limitations of PWA I've talked with a couple Sales people about Project Server 2003/2007 and I haven't gotten a straight answer from either. The question is PWA what are the limitations that you can and can't do vs. Project Pro Seat. I have three 2003 Pro seats currently and aren't used full time. If PWA would allow me to modify status, start dates, ends, etc this would be more then sufficent for other users to use to update a project. The other question I have is could I use MSDE until I can get SQL server... If so I could justify putting a proposal together to purchase Project Server.     - Importing from .mpx, elapsed duration in importing a project .mpx file, an export from Primevera, durations show up as elapsed durations which is what is desired. The durations are imported as hours, the macro to convert to days works fine. When the schedules are inserted into a master schedule, the begin and end date are consistent with the original elapsed durations. When the schedules are copied into a new schedule, the end dates all run long. It appears the 5 workdays per week applies to these tasks. How can i change the duration from days to edays?     - how do I make resource levelling work? Resource levelling in project seems useless. All assignments have to be specified as a percentage of a resource Whereas I want to specify a task with an elapsed time and an amount of effort. And actually I don't care whether the resource does 100% for the first 5 days and nothing for the rest or whatever. So my problem starts when I've got a task, Task A, that runs for 4 weeks that has 2 man weeks of effort required by a resource. Project takes this to mean that the resource will be working 50% on this task (but that's not really what I mean) I now have 2 days (in the middle of the 4 weeks) when I want this resource to be 100% occupied on something else, Task B. i.e. this task has an elapsed time of 2 days and effort of 2 days. So I would expect to be able to ask Project to level this out using a flat contour and it would allocate the resource to Task A for a bit more than 50% for all except the 2 days of Task B, where the resource will be 100% working on Task B. This makes absolute sense. However, project will not do this. It shows the resource as being overallocated on those 2 days. If automatic levelling is chosen then it will stretch Task A by two days.     - leveling issues when allocating resources max units less than a 100% with Project 2007 Hi, My manager has been trying to create a project plan in Project Pro 2007. When he levels a plan with a resource's max units at a 100% it seems to work "fine" altought we have found some weird things going on... when we change a resource's max units to 80% and set to "leveling can adjust individual assignments on a task" and click on "level now" it takes about 3 minutes to do the leveling, and pushes the project plan to end in 2049... this is weird as our project plan is only less than 1,000 hours and we've done this before with 2003 and didn't have these issues... has anyone seen similar patterns or strange behavior in Project 2003?     - Linked projects Can anyone help me. I use MP 2003 Enterprise. I have 2 schedules that use common resources. These project files are not linked. Actual work is being done in one schedule (Schedule A) and actuals are entered against the tasks. What I need is for the progress and remaining work to be viewed in Schedule B. Is there any easy way to show this without adding the resources and work complete to the second schedule - I do not want the costs to be assigned against schedule B.     - HELP! MSP2007 Read only password error Help, I just upgraded to MSP07 professional from MSP03 Professional. My problem is my files are read only protected. I open the file WITH the password, then save the file. When I try to reopen the file it says bad password, if i try to open it read only, it says it has over 1,000,000 lines and will not open the file.     - assignment delays? I would be grateful if you could let me know how to best represent the following situation. Say you have a bunch of tasks that are not linked to any of the tasks above, and that by default start on the day you start the project eg 16 April. You need these task to start further on in the schedule, but you cannot select the date from the start column otherwise inflexible constraints are introduced in the schedule. On the other hand I cannot lenghten the task duration as this would not reflect the task actual duration. Would you use assignment delay? Or how does MS Project deal with this.     - Task finishes later than it should I am using MS Project 2003 Standard Edition If I have working day of 8 hours and create a task with a duration of 7 hours, it starts and finishes on the same day, as I would expect.     - Fixed duration and resource assignments Hello, I have a few questions concerning the fixed duration task type and it's behavior with resource assignments. 1. Does the duration always stay fixed when using fixed duration task type ? Can I change work and units of the resource assignments without having a special concern for the possibility that task duration might change ? 2. When using actual and remaining work with resource assignments, is there a situation that might cause the task duration to change ? 3. Could someone explain to me why the duration changes in the following situation, using Project 2002, 7h per day (35h per week): a) I have task T1 (fixed duration, not effort driven) of 10 days and resource R1 assigned 100% to it. Total of 70h work. OK until now. b) I plug in 80h of actual work to R1. Task shows 100% complete and remaining work = 0h, Work = 80h. Still OK. c) I need to show an additional 10h of work. So I plug in 10h of remaining work to R1 and... BOOM ! MS Project shows me message telling it need to recalculate the duration. What happened here ? How come the fixed duration is not respected ? What can I do to prevent this ? I have to figure out a way to control this since I have to develop a macro that will import actuals. Thanks for your help ! I use VBA macro to copy it into assignment cost1 field (and it work only when I press F9 - annoying but this is not the main problem). 1.     - Project Database Multi User Access? I am currently using MS Project to track multiple projects. Each project has a different Project Manager. All the data is stored in a single MS Project database with a single set of MS Project generated tables. Currently all Project Managers login via the ODBC using the same username to access their projects. This unfortunately enables Project Managers to have access to ANY project stored in the tables regardless of owner. The setup works perfectly for my requirements for visibility across all projects, reporting etc. I can create reports based across all projects from the data in the single database. My current setup is: MS Project 2003 Professional (on all Project Managers' laptops) SQL Server 2003 hosting the data Access to the server is via an ODBC (at present everyone uses the same username/password) My question is: Is there a way to restrict the users' access so they can only see the data that coresponds to their project? Trials So far to solve the problem: 1, I've created different users on the SQL Server. The user logs on to access the database via the ODBC - RESULT - MS Project created new tables for that user - does not differentiate the data in the tables? Can anyone let me know if what I am trying to achieve is possible? Does anyone have a simple solution for me?     - MS Project Error Message when opening mdb file - -cannot open file In MS Project Pro 2003 after getting to the last screen when going through the process of opening a project from an Access 2002 mdb file, I get an error: Cannot open file. Project allows me to see the related mpp in the Import Wizard screen but after I click open, I get the error. The mdb is not corrupt as I am able to open the file from Project 2003 Pro when the file it is in Access 2003. Something I've noticed is that after I receive the error, I see the .lbd file for the mdb file. It does not go away until I exit out of MS Project 2003.     - RBS level of Gantt Owners Hi, When entering the PWA --> Server Settings --> Manage Categories to one of the categories there is an option under project to check "The project Owner has the same RBS value as the user". Does it mean that groups with this category will see the projects of Gantt owner with the exact RBS value or also projects with Owners at the same RBS level?
