    - How to calculate weekly total Hi, Has anyone a way of showing on the usage table a total for the combined resources on a weekly basis?     - Implications of using split versus reschedule I am wondering if anyone can explain to me the differences between splitting a task and rescheduling it. From what I have read, split is for task interruptions and reschedule is to change the time for work to start. When I perform both operations in Project, they look exactly alike.     - Assign equipment to a task I've searched through several information sources and can't figure this seemingly simple problem out; My project consists of covering up an area with several layers of soil where each layer has its own specifications and volume. To do this, we use hydraulic cranes with a specific production speed per day (m3/d). The layers of soil (fixed work) are the tasks where I assign the specific soil types to (as material resources). Now I'd like to plan my project by assigning cranes with a fixed production rate (and price per day). Logically, by assigning more cranes the project finishes earlier. Problem is that I can't seem to vary the amount of cranes per layer to see what the effect is on the project's finisching date. Only way to find out the duration of the project is to assign a variable consumption rate to the material resource and fix the work. I want to be able to calculate the difference in dates between tasks and show the output in a filed next to the task. For example Task ID 100 - Project Meeting 1/1/07 Taks ID 320 Project update 5/1/7 (Linked through various levels of predecessors to Task 120 not directly linked) So a custom field is required next to the tasks to show that there are 4 days between tasks 100 and 320. I understand that using VB this would not be dynamic, in that the coding would have to state the task id's and would need to be changed for each calculation needed, but this is fine. There are only 3 key milestones that i need to look at for this, so whilst it will not be a well used field, it's content is still worthwhile.     - Best MS Project 2003/07 hands-on training / techniques? I was wondering if someone knew of the best hands-on training of project 2003 or '07? This can either be a mentor, training vendor, on-line program, etc. I have basic usage down, but I need to know more hands-on advanced techniques. We do not have Project Server in our environment, but getting that solution in-house is not a big deal. However, I have an immediate need to make good with I currently have.     - Resource Usage View not showing Actual Work or AWP This is in a Project Server 2003 environment. The time-phased portion of the Resource Usage view will display 'Work' and 'Cum.     - Calendars and Duration I've set the default calendar in my Project 2007 project to a 6 hour day for internal resources and when I enter 6 hours, duration equals 1 day. I've added another calendar for Consultant resources that I've set working times to 8 hour days.     - Date format with and without Time in same project I would like to see all my dates without time ("7/03/06") in my Gantt, but, I would like a footer on my reports that shows the last saved date AND TIME for the file ( "C:\My Documents\Test ABC\ABC01 Project.mpp as of 8/25/06 2:11 PM").     - Timescale analysis Project 2007 has removed the timescale data analysis feature and resorts to Visual Reports for the same type of analysis.     - Feedback about using Project to model Agile iterations I am considering the use of Project to model time boxed Agile Iterations. One of the challenges to this is that Agile is very team oriented. The team has reponsibility for completing several user stories (use-cases) in each iteration. Rigorously, I suppose this is equal to a single bucket task, modeling all the work done on the iteration, and a series of milestones, one for each user story, dependent on the bucket task. At the end of the iteration, either the user storeies were completed and tested -- or not. If they were completed, the milestore is set to 100% complete. If not, the milestone/user story is moved to the next iteration. Any Ideas? Any first hand experience? HOW Would Project Server 2007 help with this???     - Actual Cost greater than Planned Cost Hi all, I have one resource assigned to a task. The task duration is 8 hours and the resource costs $12.50/hour with $12.50 for overtime. The Planned Cost is therefore $100. After 8 hours of actual work being applied to this task we see that we need to apply at least 16 more hours of work to complete the task. When we complete 9 hours of work, we should have ACWP equal to $112.50, but instead it is recorded as only $100. Also, the BCWP should be $100.     - Project 2007 Crashes I just installed Project 2007 Professional. I also have Project 2002 and 2003 running on the same machine (I'm a developer and need them for testing). The machine has mostly Office 2003 components, XP SP2. The problem is that Project 2007 crashes every time I close it. Running Office Diagnostics ddid not fix the problem.     - Changing Weekly timescaled data to show different date Our company works on a work week Sat-Friday. I do exports to excel that will show timescaled data, but it will show that Sundays date as the date for the start of that week. For Example this week it would show the data labeled 6/10/07.     - 2007 & LOE work Does 2007 allow a budget to disappear if not used? My client wants to forecast a resource at 10% level of effort for a maintenance role for 3 months. I used each scenario of the scheduling algorithms (Fixed dur/unit/work w/ & w/o effort driven) to allow unused work hours to disappear if not used. So far, each scenario only saved the unused work hours and pushed these unused hours ahead of the status date. We need this type of effort management to combine with each resource's budget when working both LOE and Project work.     - Misunderstanding "status" If someone could please explain what "status" refers to I'd appreciate it. To begin with, my project information shows Status NA. I've inserted the status column and gotten the following: The status on an unstarted task which is overude is, logically, "late". However, when I put an actual start date on it, even though it's a late start, the "start" column changes to the actual and the status changes to "on schedule".     - "Deleted" Tasks in Project Server Hey Gang, I've moved my first Project File ever into Project Server and I'm working to get it set up so our team can use PWA for time reporting. My question: I deleted two tasks in Project Professional, saved, republished, etc. However, the tasks still show up to user. Albeit with a big x. I could live with the big x, but when users export the tasks to Excel the big x disappears and they look like other tasks. Any way to make deleted tasks stop showing up in PWA?     - Fixed Costs % Complete Hi Can anyone one help me. I have recently started with a new project company using MS Project 2002. They currently use the fixed cost field to track costs. All work is subcontracted out and there is only a summary fixed cost associated with each work package. The work packages are broken down to task level in the schedule so the project manager can track progress against the tasks. At the moment these task costs are "guesstimated" out of the total fixed cost. This enables the tasks to be rolled up to summary level with a percentage complete. (However this is very time consuming and not very accurate). The standard resource field is not used - a customized text field is used to identify the subcontractors. All time is shown as duration and not work. The problem - we wish to report EV. What we need is to be able to track % complete against the total fixed cost. We dont wish to break the costs down over the individual tasks as this at the moment is really only a guess anyway. Is there any way of customizing cost fields to enable us to report % complete against total fixed cost. We are aware that the function --- ReadStatusTimephasedData --- of the
statusing web service can be used to obtain time-phased information
about the Assignment work and the Assignment Actual Work. Is there a
function in the PSI to return time-phased BASELINE work information?

We need this time-phased baseline information in order to generate a
graph of the way BCWS changes over time.

Is there a way for this is to be achieved??
