    - Overallocation warning stuck I've got two resources that are showing in red and their Overallocation field is yes, however, they do not show an overallocation in the Resource Usage view. I go back to the start of my project and click 'Next Overallocation' and get a message that there are not overallocation.     - Times not calculating - Urgent! Project 2003, new user to MS Project I have built a project plan and put in some task and subtasks and it does not seem to be calculating properly. For example, a main task heading is "Create Speadsheets", where the total should calculate beside as it is in bold, then the 3 subtasks below which have the following times, .25h, .25h, and .5h. This should total 1 hour, but the main task shows .5 hours. I have checked the rest of the project and it also seems to be doing the same thing. It is not calculating the .25h properly.     - Filtering deliverable by dates At present, I have deliverables that can be filtered by this week, next week, this month and so on. Would that be possible to set up the filter that uses from the current calender date. For example if today is Feb 28 and I filter by "this month" I would like to see all deliverables for one month starting today not just the deliverables for the remining of the month which is Feb. 28 in this case.     - In Project, customize report layout re: wrapping fields? I'd like to be able to fix report layout problems in Project 2003. I'm used to using Access and setting up my own reports. I'm hoping to be able to output these to Word or Excel so the data can be communicated to the non-Project running world. Can you export a filtered result to Excel?     - Start versus Actual Start... Here's where I stand... 1) Tasks entered (all fixed units/non-effort driven), tasks linked, time estimated, resources assigned at 100%, resources leveled 2) File has been baselined 3) Project has begun TRACKING IS MY PROBLEM: My approach is simply to ask each resource to let me know on a weekly basis the date they start (on each task), the # of hours per week for that task, and the date they finish. Of course some of my tasks have multiple resources assigned - still, they each report separately and when they are ALL done, the WHOLE task is complete. THEN THINGS DON'T GO AS PLANNED (as they do in any project)... Still, all I want to do is enter the above info as it is provided to me but many, many times the dates start playing "tricks" on me. I had assumed that my baseline would tell me the story of how things didn't go as planned as compared to actuals. So, my question is what is the difference between "Start" and "Actual Start"?     - Changing a task's duration I am adapting a Project Professional plan that someone else created. Tasks, durations and start/finish times were already entered, but resources were not. I have now specified resources and working times. When I try to add resource names to a task, however, it changes the start and/or finish date. Even when I open the task information and delete the duration, adding a resource alters the start/finish date. I have increased the resource's working hours to 1000% just to see if that is what is causing the task dates to change, but it doesn't help.     - MP Best Practices Iâ??m currently on the hunt for some best practices information that can help direct me down the right path. I am currently in a small-medium size organization that utilizes Microsoft Project to assist in managing projects. We use Project Server as a central point to manage the resource pool. Each Project Manager is responsible for managing there own resources. Our resources are often shared across multiple projects, so to ensure that we are not over allocating any one person at a corporate level, we use the levelling function. Understanding that levelling only ensures that resources are not over allocated, we need to then ensure that at each levelling point we â??clear levellingâ?? to maximize resource utilization or else MP will just push tasks to the next available point and ultimately blow out the project plan. However, by using the â??clear levellingâ?? function we are effectively freeing up time previously utilized which could be taken by another project if they are levelling at the same time you are and with the same resource needs (if that makes any sense). This could be a common scenario when auto-levelling; something we are currently grappling with. This is really a timing issue but a very likely one unless MP has safe guards in place to protect from such a thing. I have also noticed that the clear levelling/levelling combination does not maximize resource utilization to its full potential. Iâ??m guessing itâ??s probably not the right tool for this but would appreciate some direction on how best to do this. What Iâ??m looking for is some industry best practices to address: ï?? Shared resource management and the industry standard on controlling over allocation. Assuming levelling is the only answer then that leads to the next bullet. o Auto-levelling vs. manual levelling and maintaining resource control in a shared environment. ï??     - Resource Availability Setting vs. Leveling I'm having a bit of trouble using the Resource Availability setting for personnel in a project. I have people who will be available 100% then 50% of the time. I set the parameters for each person then leveled my project. Any tasks that were set to resource usage of 100% were not scheduled while the person was at 50% on the schedule. If I make the person available only 50% of the time using their calendar it levels just fine. It does appear that if I change the resource usage on the task from 100% to 50% it will level properly. however, that sort of defeats the purpose since I would like Project to figure what tasks can be done during the time the people will be 50%.     - Project Links With Excel Hi, I have a strange problem - I copy and paste special - paste link dates from Microsoft Project to Microsoft Excel. This has worked fine until recently when any new links I try and paste just return #N/A. Is there a way that I can remove all link references from the original project and start again? It says that I am on link 1320 but this appears to be because all previous links have been used from my original project (the one I use now is a save as from the original but time adjusted for this year.     - 24 hour working I'm presently trying to set up a normal shift-working pattern to include dayshift and nightshift how do you do this. Project doesn't seem to recognise a shift working pattern from 19:00hrs to 00:00 and from 00:00hrs to 07:00hrs. I keep getting the message "Start of shift must be later than end of previous shift".     - Showing % complete on baselines We are trying to update progress in MS Project. What we want to do is have both the task bar and the baseline for the task visible. We have done this successfully, and our baseline is a hollow block. We want to be able to fill in the baseline according to the percentage completion of the task, regardless of any changes we may make to the actual task duration, start, or finish dates. This requires another bar style and originally this was done, with the bar starting at the baseline start and ending at the physical percentage completion. This only works correctly if the baseline and the task bar have the same start and end dates. As soon as dates, or durations are altered, it no longer does what we want it to. If we have 25% of the work complete for a task, we want 25% of the baseline to be filled in, regardless of whether the durations, or dates are of baseline and current plan are the same. The only way we seem to be able to this, is by customising fields to calculate the percentage complete as a duration of the baseline and then adding it to the baseline start date.     - Recurring Tasks I am wondering what is the best way to use 2003 to schedule recurring meeting where the dates of the meetings may change. I have a project which stretches about 3yrs. I used the recurring task to preliminarily schedule the meetings which occur bi-weekly. I then altered the dates for a few of the meetings. Now I want to add additional meetings to the reccurrence list, but every time I try it resets all my existing meeting dates back to the preset default reccurrance.     - Simple Gantt Chart In MS Project - Newbie Please excuse what may be an incredibly stupid question. I'm a database developer, and well versed in my apps, but Project has me stumped. Perhaps I'm trying to kill a fly with a F22. I'm importing into MS Project from Filemaker Pro via ODBC a database of about 150 seperate projects that we track. Pretty basic fields in the database for each project: Job Location, Job Description, Project Manger, Planning Start Date, Planning End Date, Bid Start Date, Bid End Date, Construction Start Date, Construction End Date, Project Manager Comment. All I want MS Project to do is import the data of all the fields above, and plot them on a big Gantt Chart (we have BIG plotters to print).     - MS Project - Master/sub-Project dates Hello, I am having the same problem as Camille, who posted a question regarding the project dates for inserted projects (see 11/17/2004 message MS Project).     - Calender Hi, Please forgive me before I start!! I have a user who is using Tracking Gant. There is a column called start - with dates in. When he clicks on the toggle a calender appears, from there he tries to change the date to 2006 but as he gets through the months ie november 05, december 05, then it loops back to Jan 05 & not Jan 06 as I would expect & as other users which it does.     - HELP!! -- Calendar Formatting Two quick questions for which I can't find an answer in my copy of the Project Bible. And, of course, I need the answers 20 mins ago ;-) Any help is greatly appreciated! Both are concerned with the calendar view, in particular. 1) Is there a way to set groups of tasks (assigned to different teams, for example) so they display on the calendar view with different color bars? That way, at a glance teams could determine the crap that they need to pay attention too amidst all the other stuff.... 2) When I view the calendar on my computer screen, the is a *very* slight gap between the edges of the bar for a task an the gridlines for a particular day making it easy to distinguish one day from the other.     - Linking Milestones from individual plans into a master milestones I am trying to link milestones from several individual plans into one milestone plan. The aim is to have sections in the overall plan for each project, linked where there are dependencies between those projects.     - SPI and CPI Hi: I am stuck in 2 issues. Any kind of help is greatly appreciated. 1. I am trying to calculate CPI and SPI through creating a new column and then creating the formula manually. (I don't have version 2003). No problem until here. However, after calculating the values for each task, MS Project displays an integer value which is either 1 or 0. Does anybody know how to display these value up to 2 decimals, somehting lik 1.00 or 0.94 or 1.03 etc. 2. As a resource I am using a group of people instead of a single person. (Since their payment is made accordingly). This group of people are assigned multiple tasks in any given duration. They have the capacity to perform multiple tasks in any specific day. By default, MS Project thinks that if you assign doble task to this group they overallocated. ( by %200, %400 or %800). Thus, Their total cost overall sums up to $80000 instead of $40000. I tried to manipulate this manually by changing the max unit levels to higher values or assigning a %50 workload if they have two different tasks in a single they but could not overcome the problem. My global.mpt seems to be corrupt. MSP crashes when loading from the
global.mpt. I have made some changes to macros, so it would be valuable to me
if I could recover the global.mpt

Rename the global file.
Start Project. Project will create a new, blank Global.
File, Open and open the old global. If this works use the Organizer (under
Tools menu) to copy your macros. If it doesn't you've probably lost them.
