    - Timescale analysis Project 2007 has removed the timescale data analysis feature and resorts to Visual Reports for the same type of analysis.     - Feedback about using Project to model Agile iterations I am considering the use of Project to model time boxed Agile Iterations. One of the challenges to this is that Agile is very team oriented. The team has reponsibility for completing several user stories (use-cases) in each iteration. Rigorously, I suppose this is equal to a single bucket task, modeling all the work done on the iteration, and a series of milestones, one for each user story, dependent on the bucket task. At the end of the iteration, either the user storeies were completed and tested -- or not. If they were completed, the milestore is set to 100% complete. If not, the milestone/user story is moved to the next iteration. Any Ideas? Any first hand experience? HOW Would Project Server 2007 help with this???     - Actual Cost greater than Planned Cost Hi all, I have one resource assigned to a task. The task duration is 8 hours and the resource costs $12.50/hour with $12.50 for overtime. The Planned Cost is therefore $100. After 8 hours of actual work being applied to this task we see that we need to apply at least 16 more hours of work to complete the task. When we complete 9 hours of work, we should have ACWP equal to $112.50, but instead it is recorded as only $100. Also, the BCWP should be $100. Instead, I have an ACWP equal to $100 and a BCWP equal to $0.00. Am I missing something? Shouldn't these values be $112.50 and $100 respectively?     - Project 2007 Crashes I just installed Project 2007 Professional. I also have Project 2002 and 2003 running on the same machine (I'm a developer and need them for testing). The machine has mostly Office 2003 components, XP SP2. The problem is that Project 2007 crashes every time I close it. Running Office Diagnostics ddid not fix the problem.     - Changing Weekly timescaled data to show different date Our company works on a work week Sat-Friday. I do exports to excel that will show timescaled data, but it will show that Sundays date as the date for the start of that week. For Example this week it would show the data labeled 6/10/07.     - 2007 & LOE work Does 2007 allow a budget to disappear if not used? My client wants to forecast a resource at 10% level of effort for a maintenance role for 3 months. I used each scenario of the scheduling algorithms (Fixed dur/unit/work w/ & w/o effort driven) to allow unused work hours to disappear if not used. So far, each scenario only saved the unused work hours and pushed these unused hours ahead of the status date. We need this type of effort management to combine with each resource's budget when working both LOE and Project work.     - Misunderstanding "status" If someone could please explain what "status" refers to I'd appreciate it. To begin with, my project information shows Status NA. I've inserted the status column and gotten the following: The status on an unstarted task which is overude is, logically, "late". However, when I put an actual start date on it, even though it's a late start, the "start" column changes to the actual and the status changes to "on schedule".     - "Deleted" Tasks in Project Server Hey Gang, I've moved my first Project File ever into Project Server and I'm working to get it set up so our team can use PWA for time reporting. My question: I deleted two tasks in Project Professional, saved, republished, etc. However, the tasks still show up to user. Albeit with a big x. I could live with the big x, but when users export the tasks to Excel the big x disappears and they look like other tasks. Any way to make deleted tasks stop showing up in PWA?     - Fixed Costs % Complete Hi Can anyone one help me. I have recently started with a new project company using MS Project 2002. They currently use the fixed cost field to track costs. All work is subcontracted out and there is only a summary fixed cost associated with each work package. The work packages are broken down to task level in the schedule so the project manager can track progress against the tasks. At the moment these task costs are "guesstimated" out of the total fixed cost. This enables the tasks to be rolled up to summary level with a percentage complete. (However this is very time consuming and not very accurate). The standard resource field is not used - a customized text field is used to identify the subcontractors. All time is shown as duration and not work. The problem - we wish to report EV. What we need is to be able to track % complete against the total fixed cost. We dont wish to break the costs down over the individual tasks as this at the moment is really only a guess anyway. Is there any way of customizing cost fields to enable us to report % complete against total fixed cost.     - Cost Field Changes when number are pasted into a Cost_X or Number_X field Simple set up: With MS Project 2007, calculations are set up based on Physical % Complete. Schedule is a cost loaded, baselined schedule. Show (for example) cost1 field set up for summing. Show the baseline cost field and the cost field. Some tasks have a P%Compl > 0 and actual costs....a normally progressing schedule. Copy the Baseline Cost column into the Cost1 field. This will change almost all (but not all) of the Cost field numbers if P%Compl > 0 (and Baseline Cost field does not = Cost field). It does not seem to affect the EAC, BCWS, BCWP, etc. I've been working on this issue on and off for a couple weeks with variable results. I create a small schedule from scratch and can't seem to repeat the problem but have several 'real world' schedules that all exhibit this behavior. I can provide a copy to anyone who might offer help. I showed all the calculating cost_X fields and a couple of number_X fields. Copying and pasting a column of numbers into any of these fields results in the exhibited behavior of changing (most of) the MS Proj "Cost" fields. (Nothing is modified on the cost_X or number_X fields, e.g. none of them is a summing column, etc.) I'm copying and pasting an entire column or part of a column using CNTL C and CNTL V. I did notice that putting the cursor in an individual cell and making it active before pasting a number will allow the paste to take place without changing the "Cost" field. A very quirky piece of S/W at times. But I've got a team of guys doing Earned Value schedules with MS Proj and it seems to be something that no one else in our entire 11,000 employee company has been able to do. In fact, they've all said MS Proj can't do EV Schedules because of too many "bugs". All the 'bugs' have turned out to be operator error....except maybe this one. Also, seems we're the only group that have been able to create genuine EV Schedules for the 70,000 employee company we have the contract with to provide project controls. So figuring this one out would be a welcomed relief....I hope it's just something I'm not quite understanding but ..... Any help is appreciated. I work on small, bursty projects, and am usually rolling many through (20 at any given time) at once. I have created a 30 day implementation template in MS Project 2007. The majority of the time, I am given a date to implement/launch on, and I need a way for my project template to adjust for me based on this. Is there a way in MS Project to instead of listing a launch date, list a completion date?     - Need some help with my project Okay i have been working in a project plan( im a newbie at this) i read some manuals and all that... Now im practicing this ok... and i have encountered a problem and i cant make it work I got a task that depends of another task to start and it also depends on ANOTHER task to finish. Now "preliminar de la conectividad LAN" ALSO! depends on the task in line 36 "Compra de equipos" it depend in this task in the way that when this task finish then 10 days later the tasks "preliminar de la conectividad LAN" Should finish! But i tried putting them the dependencies and doesnt work... as you see in line 26 if you click for task information you will see predecesors tab that i got it configured correctly(well i think at least) i got Start-Start dependency with "Levantar documentancion del hardware actual" and finish to finish dependency with "Compra de equipos" and in tab advanced got it in as soon as possible... and it doesnt work... the starting date isnt when documentancion del hardware actual" start.... andi dont know why! i mean im telling the project that it should start at that time with the dependency! I did calculate in the option when i finish setting everything. Between you willl see i just did the finish to finish dependecy and start to start ok? and i guess to make it finish 10 days later when the "compras de equipos" finish i guess i just gotta do lag days 10 right? What im doing wrong? plz guys help me with this... not trying to be lazy or anything as i have read the manuals and im doing what i have learned from them but i just cant figure out why it isnt working... Look i'm running a MS Project 2007 with Windows XP SP2, in one machine, and a MS Project 2003 with Windows XP SP2 in other, in a MS Windows 2003 SP2 domain admin server with the Active Directory installed and running... In Project i try to get Resources from the AD and i only can access the client users, and not from the domain users, but if i do that in the server i do can access the AD... PS.     - Task Tracking Sanity Check - Mine I feel stupid to ask this and I did read several messages but I don't see any hope of a way to do what I MUST do. I need to track actual man hours worked and manually enter their estimate of percent complete for tasks, then have the Gannt bar extend to show a new estimated duration. Example: resource works 16hrs on an estimated 20h task but is only 50% done. I need to see the 16hrs worked and the 50% complete and have Gannt extend the estimated duration to 40h. I know this runs counter to what I've read, but this is what I really must do. Can I somehow get Project to do this via code or ?     - Resource leveling constrians Dear reader, When I use resource leveling by default the box: "Level only within available slack" is disabled. In this way you can get better leveling, in theory even a 100%. I suppose the more delay MS is putting on the total project duration, the better the leveling will be until a maximum. As a project manager you would like to see what a delay will do with your leveling. So you would like to be able to have a graphs that sets out the leveling against te total delay of the project. I suppose MP chooses automaticly a value that is on this graph. Can you make such a graph quickly? How does MP determens this value? All answers and quistons are welcome. I don't want to post this to usenet because somebody might try to tie that in to my posts in some way (someone already has, in uk.misc). First of all, I'd like to ask you to believe that my phone line in my apartment is bugged, and has been for many months. I have moved a couple of times this year, but "they" have faithfully been on my trail. Anyway, let's suppose my phone line is bugged. Now, when I talk to my internet service provider, it's over a SLIP (now PPP) connection. So if you wanted to bug what was said, either you'd listen in over the line and have to decode the transmission, or you could go to the service provider (more difficult) and ask them to decode a particular user's connection. OK, so now they're listening to everything I do over my SLIP/PPP connection. A couple of months ago I was messing around with faking articles through nntp servers and through anonymous remailers. I chose a nice inconspicuous newsgroup for my little tests, something no-one would ever notice. Guess which newsgroup I chose??? Yes, _FISH_!!! or rec.aquaria to be precise And guess what articles I tried to post? Goldfish, Koi carp and, you'll never guess... PIRANHA!!! The goldfish article and the Koi went through, but the piranha didn';t appear. by now you probably think this is too silly for words. But if you look in the papers a few eeks ago you will find John Major, Tonny Blair and Paddy Ashdown sharing a "private joke" about Major's sunburnt goldfish. We haven't had anything about Koi yet (they must be too dull ). Now, sent by someone who clearly knew what they were doing (they chose an Italian backbone site for their launch point) we have many thousands of messages to people all over the globe. All about piranha, and with the punchline "that gives you something to think about, doesn't it?" The way it works is that they're trying to kill two birds with one stone again. I'll just enumerate one or two things that I can still remember. Sometime around August/Sept 1992 I was living in a house in Oxford, and coming out of the house was physically attacked by someone - not punched, just grabbed by the coat, with some verbals thrown in for good measure. That was something the people at work shouldn't have known about... but soon after a couple of people were talking right in front of me about, "yeah, I heard he was attacked". Again, one I went for a walk in some woods outside Oxford. The next day, at work, someone said "you know he went to the forest yesterday". I don't want to put details on usenet of what happened because to do so would be to risk it happening again. If you put ideas in peoples' heads then you can find them reflecting back at you, and I don't want that. Also I can't remember that much from three years ago. That obvious contradiction within their propaganda is something they blithely ignore. :So, the Security Services never *actually* appear, and you assume that :they get someone else to do your dirty work. This is a bit of a big :logical step, here: That person doesn't like me, or is causing me trouble, :it's not because they've got problems themselves, it must be the "Security :Services". Yes. Because people are infallible. Or is there more? A single source is indicated because of the range of harassment. BBC + Capital + manipulated_public_at_large + set_up_situations, what does that add up to? Add in the technology to carry out the covert spying and the manpower and knowhow to follow you around for five years without being spotted. It smells very much of the security services, because there is no other organization (to my knowledge) which does the things I've seen these people do. Remember, they have deliberately chosen the softest of soft targets to victimize. They purposely chose a mentally ill person who they thought would be likely to kill himself anyway, so that they could get away with murder. And in all likelihood it will have started as a personal vendetta by someone. Who could that be? I don't know, but I can give you some clues. The first possibility (deep breath) is that someone from my college set me up. Six years ago I graduated from university in the UK, during the last year there I was steadily getting more and more ill. I know that I was talking in my sleep; although I don't know what I was saying, it got me a reputation, and if someone from my college talked afterwards to the "wrong" people then that could be the reason for all that has followed. I think that's the strongest contender for source. Directly beneath my room lived another bloke who frequently had his friends round late at night, after the time that I went to sleep. So they could have heard what I was saying in my sleep, and that could have got me the reputation for "talking to myself". What I don't know is why that should have rebounded a year after I left. You'd think it would have happened sooner; it's a bit odd to wait for a year and then start abuse. The reason I think it might be the former is that I got quite a lot of abuse along the lines of "sound-alike" or "double-entendre" at work, in particularly from Steve. So "double" inevitably came to mean split-personality, "two people in one"; "back" inevitably came to mean "backside", "come" inevitably meant you-know- what, "split" (well, we'd better split now) again you can guess, "bent" (of a similar bent), the list goes on forever. These aren't "nice" double- entendres intended for comedy, they're nasty words to humiliate and cause pain. If I could turn the clock back three years then I would sue my former employers for harassment and I would almost certainly win. I had to take pills after a year of Oxford, so they wouldn't be able to lie their way out of it. I can remember individual incidents, words which were repeated by different people at different times in different locations. Around the end of 1992 Private Eye rtan a front-cover with John and Norma Major, with the title "Major's support lowest ever" and John saying to Norma "Come back norma" on the front cover. What can you read in to that? Not a lot, seems like standard fare for PE. The first time I saw it I was in the pub with some people from work. One was expressing doubts to the other (let's call the first one Simon, shall we? and the second one Phil?) about whether what was going on was right. Phil's answer was that if Private Eye was doing it then it must be ok, "they're usually right". A few days later, again near work, there were some students laughing in the street, "Were you COMING BACK later? But I thought you said you were COMING BACK ha ha ha?" Play on words, you see. There are two ways. One is to select a task that has a start date that
you want and then hit the "go to selected task" icon on the Standard
toolbar. If the icon is not visible on your standard toolbar add it
under "customize" toolbar.

The second method is to use Edit/Go To and enter the task ID or date you
want.
