Professional Scheduling
My organization uses something called professional scheduling. It works something like this:
- An employee is salaried, let's say $1000 per week. This calculates out to $25/hour
- Technically, he will work 40+ hours per week
- He's assigned several tasks to complete during the week. For simplicity sake, let's say 5 and each takes 8 hours each.
If he works 40 hours during the week, the cost associated to completing these tasks will be $25 per hour. If he works less than 40 it's still $25 per hour because the other time is taken up with something else (i.e. sick pay, vacation, etc). Easy!
Now, if he works 48 hours, 12 hours each on two of the tasks and 8 hours on the other three, everything changes. He still only gets $1000 for that weeks work, but now it calculates out to $20.83 per hour. In other words, the hourly rate used to calculate the cost of the assignment depends on how many hours he actually works, if he works over 40 hours.
Is there an easy way to set this up, or do I have to write a VBA script that will recalculate a persons rate every week, based on the actual hours he/she worked, then enter it, with a date, as a new entry into the cost rate table? If this is how it needs to happen, do you have any suggestions? I'm not new to VBA programming, but I am in Project programming.

Place meetings into your schedule
We want to place a task in the schedule that represents a meeting that will happen every Monday and last one hour for the duration of the project. It will be fixed duration so that you can assign multiple resources without extending the duration.
Is there a way to set up a task this way, so the one hour task only shows up to be done on Monday for all the resources assigned to it. I can prevent overallocation by changing the assignment units.

Pricing MS Project
i was charged to find out how much will cost to deploy
microsoft project to more than 100 users.somebody
mentioned we should get a "site" license for ms project.
any help where i should start? i checked microsoft's
website but i couldn't find exact pricing info by the
number of users.

Estimate at Complete
We are using MSP 2002 and want to use the 'analyze timescaled data' wizard to create an earned value chart. I wanted to include Estimate at Complete but can't find it in the selections would like to include the Estimate at Complete in the 'selelct the fields to be exported' window.
Is there a way around this restriction so that we can tell sr. mgt what it really wants to know: how much more will this cost me?

Lost Disc
Advise please on how to replace missing Project 98 disc.
I have product ID and CD Key number but lost the disc
when moving office. Have tried the web site only to be

Estimate at Complete
We are using MSP2002 and we are want to use the 'analyze time scaled data' wizard to create earned value graphs. I can't find Estimate at Complete in the choices for graphing! Do you have a way to get it added to the graph?

Viewing committed vs sales pipeline resource allocations
I have two kinds of projects, those that are "committed" (I.e. the contract has been signed) and those that are in the sales pipeline (meaning the contract has not yet been signed). Resources are tentatively committed to sales pipeline tasks.
When I look at resource utilization view, I would like to be able to see that a resource is 80% allocated to committed tasks and 10% allocated to sales pipeline tasks (meaning the contract has not been signed) and 10% free (as an example).

Display of two texts on the same bar for different durations.
Hi,
I am just trying to create a Schedule with Two text in the same bar for diferent time periods.
Basically for example:
Excavation: Total Duration is 6 months
First month - Mobilisation
Remaining 5 months - Work Started
In a task bar for the duration of 6months , for the first month it should Mobilisation in the text and Work in Progress for the remaining 5 months.

Why doesn't BCWS = cost
Hi,
Anyone know why on many of my schedules BCWS doesn't equal
cost? Are these two items the same thing? Does Project
calculate them the same way? What would cause the
difference?

MSPJ.MTM can't open
When I use my microft project professional to send out
task update requests to users of Outlook 2002, the
receiving client can't open the file.
The file has a .MTM ext.
The popup message states 'Windows cannot open this file'
What do you want to do?

Bill of materials
We connect customers as they subscribe to our network. There is a bill of
materials that is standard for each customer connection. The bill of
materials will consist of several material resources and work resources in
whole or in part. I wish to budget some connections. Any ideas on how to

Links not seen on the Gantt Chart.
Hi,
I am not sure why the links are not visible on the Gantt chart.In the earlier when i created the other projects the links used to appear on the gantt chart.

Wall Calendar's supported by Microsoft Project
We enter alot of our events, projects, deadlines, etc. in
MicroSoft Project(MP). We'd can create a monthly calendar
using MP but not a 12 month at one view calendar.
Does anyone know how to get MP to generate a twelve month
at one view calendar?
or
Does any one know of other software that will accept a
download from MP and then usae it to generate a twelve
month at one view calendar?

free slack
Hi,
I've some trouble with free slack information I get out of
my schedule. For instance I have two activities with an
FS+5d relationsship and a free slack of 10 days. If I
change the relationsship to FS the free slack changes to 5
days, which is correct. If I change it to FS-1d, the free
slacks is changed to 0 which seems to be wrong in my
opinion. Any advise to fix that?

multiple name entry in 'Resources"
When I enter multiple names, say Tom, Dick, and Harry for the same task in "Resources," will Project treat each name as a separate entity when I publish task lists for each individual?

error message on opening files
We have recently switched from project 2000 to 2002 and
get the following error message when we open the old
files. "The operation can not be completed because the
source file contains invlaid project data or the total
number of rows would exceed the limit of 1,048,000 rows in
a project". After we get this error the resources are all
blanked out. The file is only about 500 tasks long. Has
anybody seen this or know how to fix it? Thanks in

Task dates don't update when I change the project start date
Using MS Project 2002/Windows XP.
I have a project plan setup and need to change the start date for the
project. All the tasks are linked with Finish-to-Start constraints,
with the task constraints set to As Soon As Possible.
There is one milestone task which is not connected to any other tasks.
If I change the project start date (Project>Project Information) there
is no change to the timeline.
If I change the start date of the first task, it shifts along the
timeline, but all the other tasks stay where they are.
Can anyone help?
