    - Baseline change problems I am doing the first baseline change in a project and I am facing some challenges. I have a baseline set. Lets say I should build a wall with 100 bricks in 10 days. My cost for this project is $1000. Timewise and counting the number of bricks, I am halfway through the project when my customer tells me he wants another 20 bricks. The problem is, my project has spent more resources than expected, so even though I am halfway, the cost is 60% of the total. My problem is that when I add the necessary work to the work field needed to complete the project with the new specification and set a new baseline, my own cost overrun will be included in the baseline making the project looking less overrun than it is. If this was a larger project, with 100+ tasks, I would also like to be able to point out maybe the 10 or 15 activities that was affected by the scope change and to what degree, perhaps with information on baselin cost, duration and start/finish. I have tried to figure out some steps to go through using formulas and filters to get everything to show, but have not succeded. Does anyone have some good steps to follow to achive this?     - How to create a plan to monitor time&cost of subcontracted project Hi, There is a project which has been budgeted and the project is subcontracted. Based on the completion of tasks on time by the subcontractor specific percentage of the total budgeted amount is awarded to the contractor. If the time to complete the task is delayed a specific percentage is deducted from the total budgeted cost. Subcontractors send the update on the completion of the task and the date of completion to an identified person who will be the assignment owner of the tasks for the projects and feeds the data. How should we plan a project for the above? Should we have fixed cost for tasks, if so where can the actual cost for a task be captured? Please help.     - Project 2007 - Visual Reports - Problem I have a problem with MS Project 2007 visual reports when using a consolidated project. In brief, it seems that the excel report double-counts the work effort when using visual reports on a consolidated project. Hereâ??s the details: 1. Create a resource pool with 4 resources: bob, joe, frank, tom 2. Create Project #1 with 3 tasks by: Bob, Joe, Tom (using resources from pool): Each with say fulltime work for 6 weeks 3. Create Project #2 with 3 resources: Bob, Joe, Frank (using resources from pool): Each with say 50% work for 6 weeks 4. Create new consolidated project by inserting projects 1 & 2 5. In the consolidated project, run visual reports: I used the original template assignment (Budgeted work) 6. Problem: The resulting excel report shows resources getting 2-3 times the total effort for the projects. Has anyone seen this problem? Any suggestions?     - Undo project level enterprise custom field changes Hi, In Project 2007, I have defined a number of project level enterprise fields, used to track things like the customer and project status. Some of these have lookup tables, some are free text. Users change the value of these fields via the Project Information Form. If the user changes a free text field and presses OK, they get an entry under the Edit menu "Undo Project Information". However, if they change a field that has a lookup table, no such undo option is created. If they change a free text field and a lookup table field, and press "Undo Project Information", the free text field is undone, but the lookup table field change is not. Is this a known bug?     - Customized Fields in Enterprize Global I was using one of my projects to try out a Custom Field to make sure it was working correctly. Once that was done I checked out my Enterprise Global, then went back to the local project and opened the Organizer to copy the Field into the Ent. Global. I got an error message that said, "Only Enterprise Fields are customized and stored in the ent. global. Use Import Custom Field or Import Outline Code to import definitions into the ent. global." Then I tried this by just checking out the ent. global and importing the formula from the custom field in the local project but got another error message..."The formula cannot be saved because it refers to a non-enterprise custom field." Then I tried to just check out the Ent. Global an create the Custom Field directly instead of copying it. The Tools-->Customize-->Fields.. was grayed out not allowing me to even make a Custom Field in the Enterprise Global.     - Default Column Width I have a file (an .mpp file and all of its successors) where the Predecessor and Successor columns are always set to a width of 128 when the file opens, and I need to resest them to something that allows me to see other columns. I have tried several methods of setting and saving the width of these two columns, but haven't found the correct combination yet. Other files are not effected. Suggestions? I went to Project/Options/Calculation and selected - move end of completed parts after status date back to status date -- and move start of remaining parts back to status date - move start of remaining parts before status date forward to status date -- and move end of completed parts forward to status date my project start date is 10/31, current date is 11/7, and status date is 1/14. when I enter progress on a task as percent complete the task completed work or remaining work does not get adjusted around the status date according to the project/options/calculation settings. We are passing the name of the project plan, the start date, and the template name to be used to generate the project plan.     - WBS numbering error I'm working a schedule where I've included WBS numbering. For some reason the last 54 tasks out of 1312 are one level off (one level lower). If I insert a column with Outline Numbering, the Outline numbering reflects correctly. I've used Help and can not reach a resolution. Tried PROJECT>WBS>RENUMBER however the RENUMBER is grayed out.     - Actuals in the projectfile not equal to the actuals in the timeshe Hi, We are using project server 2003 with SP2a running on windows server 2003. Last week we found out that in all most all plans (70 in all and 2 admin projects) other than some 7 project plans the actuals in the projectfile and the actuals in the timesheet of the employees are not matching. In few cases the timesheet hours are more and in others it is vice versa. We are using project server for project planning for almost 3 years now and we have found out mismatch of this proportion only now. There is no specific pattern of mismatch either related to admin projects only or in specific projects. It is there in all most all project plans. Could someone please throw some light on how this could have happened? The varied reasons and how this can be eliminated in the existing system or if not possible to eliminate in the existing system suggest few good practices so that this situation will not arise in the future?     - Changing units from percentage to hours I can not for the life me find out how switch percentages to hours. My resources charge and work per hour, as I would believe most resources do. So if I have a task thatâ??s 3 days, how can I assign a resource to the task for 5 hours.     - Using % Physical Complete and Have Summary Progress Hello - I want to use the Physical % Complete column to calculate EVM because it is a better gauge of task completion. It is also the only field that I've found that doesn't automatically calculate the actual cost based on time. I enter resource hours on a daily basis to track actual costs. Any suggestions on how to keep % progress independent from the actual hours I enter and still show a summary level progress?     - Material Resource Cost I am trying to include a material resouce that adds a cost of $0.82 per hour of work to all work resources on my project. I have defined a material resource with a rate of $0.82 and applied it to all tasks with units 1/h. This calculates the cost for this material based on the project duration - I need it to get it to calculate based on worked hours. The best I can come up with is to change my work resources rate to increase by $0.82. I don't like this because I would like to group that cost with other material costs not labor costs. I have a problem of clarity in MS Project Pro 2007. Dependency links are
shown to the Baseline Bar symbols and not to the current Task Bar. I feel
certain that this is not as nature (and Microsoft ;-) intended. I should
like to find a remedy for this before I transfer the programmes into my
Client's Project Server EPM system

I have known the problem in v.2003, but not quite as seriously.

Make sure that your baseline bar style is not the first one in the list.
Go to format menu, select barstyles, then move the baseline style further
down.
