    - Timesheet Approval - 2 Questions At the end of June we went live with Project Server 2003. Since our go live there are 2 questions I cannot seem to find the answer to pertaining to timesheet approval. They are: 1) Even though a resource selects update all when submitting their timesheet, not all 40 hours appears on the Approve Timesheet view. If the manager goes into View resource assignments they can verify the resource has submitted 40 hours. The timesheet behavior appears to be random. Can anyone explain this behavior? 2) In a timesheet some of the entries appear to be colored coded in red, some in blue and others in black. Can anyone provide a definition for this color coding?     - Assigning multiple resource list to tasks within Project Hi all, New to the community so be gentle please! :o) I am working in an environment using Project 2002 and need to be able to assign people from 3 different groups to particular tasks within a project. The snag is these people are within 3 different groupings and some people can belong to more than one groups. Then I need to be able to display the three groups as columns and show against each task who has been assigned - this is further complicated as more than one person can be assigned from a group. Essentially what I am after is to be able to have 3 separate resource lists against a task, so then i can search on a particular resource list for a person's tasks, etc. Hope someone can show me the light!     - overkill? I am a consultant, I work alone and would like to track my time and organize my projects. I have started using Word to create Outlines that organize my procedures for any given part of a project. I also make generous use of Tasks and Journal entries in Outlook.     - Error opening MSP2003 Eval I just started at my company and am trying to show my boss Project is a good tool for us. I downloaded a 98 Trial version around July 28th and thought I had 60 days to show my boss it was worth buying Project (maybe the 98 or 2000 version to save money). I've been using it since then with no problem and am on my way to convincing my boss. This morning, when I opened a schedule project, I got the message "MSP has encountered an error and needs to close. Send or don't send error report to MS." After restarting, etc, with no success, I've downloaded the MS 2003 Project Trial version today from the MS Web site (deleting all previous versions) and I am getting the exact same error message. I've tried the Trial Booting trick under the FAQs section and though the "yes" sticks in RegEdit, it does not prevent this error. Any ideas?     - duplicate external linkages I have two projects linked through numerous external links, entirely going from the first project to the second project and have discovered that MS Project is providing duplicate (and at times triplicate) links of those original links. When I attempt to delete the extra linkages from one of the projects the program crashes or shows "create external" under tools-links between projects-differences. When I delete them from the other project, it shows the linkages deleted, but they always come back. Further, that "create external" difference link cannot be deleted (the delete link button is shaded). Finally, one of the tasks in the first project is listed as "critical", with the only successor being one of those duplicate external links, and when I look at the second program the linked task is "not critical". As a result, I have an extra critical path (with no constraints anywhere) that is nowhere near the end of either project. I've tried to write to .mpd and back, but it just stays. Tried moving to other directories, deleting one or the other of the files and deleting links before bringing back the deleted one. I am out of ideas, any help out there?     - Resource Problem A colleague of mine has assigned resources to a project in Project 2003. They're working a 6 hour workday and assigned to a task at 50%. The resources should be working on the task for 3 hours a day but Project shows them at 3.9 hours a day. I have asked my colleague some questions that were obvious to me.     - Assigning Administrative Tasks I have setup an administrative project to track sick, vacation time etc. I have added the resources to each task that I as a manager need to approve and track. I know want to book time for each resource for vacation, etc that has already been approved until the end of the year. I do not wish to have my resources re-enter it themselves.     - Project tasks with no apparent dependencies I am working on establishing a schedule for an audit engagement. The issue i have is with the existence of high level tasks that have no dependencies but sub-tasks within those high level tasks that do have dependencies within themselves. For example lets take a testing cash task (summary task) and a testing inventory task (Summary Task). These tasks have absolutely no relationship. They have sub-tasks, such as peform testing, manager review, addressing review notes . These sub-task have a FS dependency with each other within the applicable summary task but the high level task of testing cash has no dependency with testing inventory. They can occurr simultaenously. What if the same resource is assigned to complete the perform testing sub-task within the two summary tasks with no dependencies? I would like the resource to work 100% on one of these tasks at a time until completion. These tasks do have different priorities. For example i would like the resource to work on testing inventory first and than on cash. How can i achieve that without creating any dependencies? Also in our field a testing task is rarely completed without any interruptions. SO if my resource is working on inventory and comes across any delays such as client delays, i would like the resource to start working on cash until they can start again on inventory. How can i achieve this kind of flexibility so that i can change the baseline schedule for appropriate comparison with actual work and its impact on project finish date. Also do i have to enter the subtasks of manager review and addressing review notes for every summary task.     - Project '03 Hanging Issue When I start up Project '03, the application goes to a hanging hourglass. When trying to open a Project file, I get the message "The command is not available in this situation. A command in macro may not be available for this particular view or for the item selected." In the project, I want tasks to be completed within a certain timeframe after a previous task has been completed. For example, account exec makes a phone call. I want an internal meeting to take place within 2 business days from that call. How do I define this? Do I just pick an arbitrary start date for the project then set the phone call task and define the meeting task to start 2 days from the completion of phone call task? I just don't want these dates to be set in stone as this will only be a template. What I'm more interested in is start and completion deadlines i.e. Account Exec must make phone call within 24 hours of assignment. Internal meeting must take place within 2 business days from phone call made. In our case, we have a lot of tasks that don't take a lot of time but they need to be executed in a timely fashion. Hi Jerry,

I know nothing of the enterprise version, but in Project it's done through
the organizer - I don't know if there's something similar with Project pro.
Try posting on the server newsgroup. Please see FAQ Item: 24. Project
