I received request from a customer for a custom Gantt chart. He would
like to see the bar for summary tasks overlaid with the bars for the
sub tasks. So for example if there were five sub task the summary task
would show all five sub task on the same line. I assume I will need a
script for this but I'm not sure where to start. Has anyone seen
anything like this? Can someone point me in the right direction to
find the answer? Thanks, I appreciate any advise.

Hi Alan,
Select the subtasks. Click on the Task Information button on the standard
toolbar to show the Multiple Task Information dialog box. Click on the
General tab and click on the "Roll up Gantt bar to summary" check box. The
bars of the subtasks will show rolled up to the summary bar.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

should be very simple...

you want the tasks to "rollup" to the summary task.

I believe each task has an option to "rollup to the summary task"
(double click the task and search all tabs in the dialog) ...

then change the formatting of rolled-up tasks so that you can
differentiate them from the summary task bar.

if you want, you can all "collapse" the summary task so that the
sub-tasks do not show

I have used this with various combinations of color and different
symbology to indicate different phases of larger tasks

if you have a problem, email me and I can send you a screen shot
showing the resulting effect and a bit more of an explanation of how
to achieve the desired result
