    - Highlighting the critical path I am managing a very lengthy schedule. I recently went through to weed out all tasks that were 100% complete. For those completed tasks that had incomplete successors, I moved them to a section called completed tasks and restablished the links. Now when I filter for critical tasks and try to highlight them, nothing is highlighted, whereas before I was able to highlight the critical path. Can anyone tell me why that might be.     - task lasting full length of project using Project 2007 and Project Server 2007 I'm trying to adjust the Project Management task that runs for the full duration of a project so that it starts on the Project Start Date and finishes when the last milestone is completed.     - Project 2003, Sharepoint 3.0 and custom columns We have a Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 server that we have created some document libraries that have mandatory columns. When we try to save a project 2003 file to that library we are not like any of the other Office 2003 products (word, excel, powerpoint) prompted for these mandatory fields. The file is being saved to the library, but as "checked out". We have to edit properties, add the mandatory column entry and then we can check in the file. In fact, if we create a library with a custom column that is voluntary, we are not even prompted entering data in the custom column field during save. I personally believe this is due to Project 2003 not being fully "sharepoint aware". Does anyone else have any clues?     - Levelling project with % complete Hi I have a project schedule that I have used to plan tasks for a 6 person team. I am starting to track progress now and am filling in % complete for some of the tasks. I am wanting to level the project - so that based on todays remaining amount of work - i can see the predicted project end date - but it doesnt seem to allow me to do this. I have some tasks that are completed - that are still showing on the schedule to start in a weeks time.     - Project Resource Plan Hi, I am trying to use Resource Plans in Project 2007 but it doesn't seem to be working. I would allot hours to my resources on the plan but when i click on View Assignments or View Availability, it shows that i have no assignments and that I still have 40 hours available. I tested with 2 contacts and 2 different projects to double check. Here's what I did: 1. Create a project plan with 1 task "Support". 2. Click on build team, and selected 2 resources (not sure if this is necessary) 3. Save and Publish the project plan. 4. In PWA, selected the "Support" project and created a Resource Plan. 5. For Calculate Resource Utilization From: I selected "Project Plan" ( also tried Resource Plan) and still didn't show decreased availability When I assign the resource to the task in the project plan, it shows decreased availability, it is just in the resource plan, it is not making any changes.     - Timescale Hello, I have a 3 tier gantt chart set up - Month, Week, and date of week start. Current date is September 9, however my project start was August 11. I want August 11 to show as week 1, but curently shows week -4. The current date line on September 9 is counting backwards showing week of September 8th as 'Week 1'. How do I change this?     - Upgrade to MSP 2007? I'm currently using MSP2002 and like it ok, but find the layout a little awkward. It seems like I'm always having to dig through menus to get to things I need, or if I've been away from it for a while (which is the current situation) I'll forget where things are (which means even more digging around). A lot of that, I think, is just due to MSP being a very powerful application with lots of features. But I was wondering how latest version, MSP2007, is? I heard that MS had revised the interface, and was wondering if they had simplified it and (hopefully) made it more intuitive. Any opinions? Worth upgrading from MSP2002?     - Project 2000 % Complete problems I have a milestone that has another task as it's predecessor. The predecessor is 100% complete, but the milestone is sitting at 20%. I checked, and both tasks at ASAP, and have no constraints and the milestone has no other predecessors. Should the milestone be sitting at 100% like its predecessor?     - External timeline dependencies I am using Project 2003 enterprise. I have 3 plans linked together, a resource plan, vendor submitted plan, and master plan. However, it is not appropriate to link to the vendor plan for submission to management. How do I reflect the durations they expect and the review/revise cycles that belong to our staff? For example; they will write a guide and expect it to take 2 weeks, my staff must review that guide within 5 days.     - Unable to access pwa Here is what I have Server 2008 (+latest patches / sp) Project Server 2007 (+latest patches / sp) I am able to connect to PWA on the local host machine but am not able to connect to PWA from other remote machines. I can ping the Server by name and by IP from the remote machines. I do get the Login Screen but once I enter in the credentials I just get a "Cannot find Server" in the title bar and "Page Cannot be Displayed" in the browser window. The strange part is that I can connect to the SharePoint Administration page but not to the http://servername/pwa. Any suggestions?     - Resource Capacity We created a data analysis view to look at resource allocaiton over time. This view uses the MSP Portfolio Analyzer cube. We also have a custom field named Job Roles that both generic and named resources are tied. Allocation is thus being viewed at the Job Roles level. To simplify the chart we created a new Totals Field named Allocation (work / capacity) so that the work and capacity fields did not need to be displayed. Unfortunately, when we look at allocation using both named and generic the total capacity is overstated. After adding the work and capacity fields next to allocation we found that adding the generic capacity to the totals was the problem. We now understand that total capacity belongs to the named resources. We do, however, know we need the hours that are given to the generics to get the proper values. So, what we need is to be able to remove or set to zero the generic capacity for our calculation to work. After several hours we exhausted this approach using project server. Our other thought was to export to Excel and using Excel set the generic capacity to zero. This would require an Excel expert, of which we are not. We would rather get the calculation correct in project server before exporting to Excel. Has anyone run across this problem?     - ProjectPro 2003 - Custom Fields I have a ProjectPro question that I hope someone can answer. Weâ??ve inherited a custom solution that was built by a consulting company, for our company. This custom solution uses ProjectPro 2003, ProjectServer 2003 and SharePoint 2003. Weâ??re are having a problem with a custom field for some projects in ProjectPro. There are some projects where the original value for the custom field has mysteriously changed to a different value. The value for the custom field is mandatory and it is populated from a dropdown list. This solution has been running for several years but this problem started about 2-3 months ago.     - Weird behaviour with MS Office Project Hi, I have a weird problem with getting the correct week number in the visual reports in MS Office Project 2007. For instance - my project starts on the 25th of august (week 35) but when I select a report (Report->Visual Reports->Baseline Work report) and choses "Weeks" as the level of usage data - it appears like the project started on week 33.     - MS PROJECT - master project file, but how do i allocate resources? resource sheet is blank in master sheet. What im trying to do is share resources from one group to another group, each group is in its own seperate ms project file. THen they are linked up with a master project file containing all the groups and their works coming up. EG: North South East West The resource sheet doesnt show me any information of any of the groups in the Master Project File, however in their own seperate Group file i have already allocated Resources. Even when the tasks underneath the summary tasks start later, the summary task does not adopt that start date, it stays fixed at the project start date (which makes the daycount wrong). Rather than just tracking work, Iâ??d like to break it into 3 categories (normal, rework, and scope change) but still have that roll up into a cumulative work field. Inexplicably some of the tasks are not displaying in the Gantt Chart. I have compared the tasks not displaying with tasks that are displaying by going to the task information on both of them and also to the view menu and compariing the calendar information - the tasks that are not displaying do not have 'hide task bar' checked.     - Recording the Actuals - Help Needed Hi there, Fairly new to Project 2007 - but not to project management. I wonder if someone can shed some light on the following. I have a task on a plan with resource ASH 75% loading. The task was due to take 6 days and was sheduled as 75% thus the elapsed as 8 days. ASH put extra hours in and finished the task early but using the full time allocation. When I enter the actual end date / hours taken etc. the calculations do one of two things. 1. If I say complete 100%, 0 remaining and actual finish date the task duration changes to 6 days (fine as the elapsed is 6 days), but the actual hours change to 36. 2. If I say complete 100%, 0 remaining, 48hours actual and actual finish date the task duration changes to 8 days, actual hours 48 but end date changes back to 8 day elapsed from start. I was hoping to show that the task has finished early but keep the actual hours correct. Any ideas??     - weekend and duration dates conflict I am in Sales and I create a "preliminary" Microsoft schedule for my proposal. This schedule is intended to start / end dates and task duration along with required predecessor/successor links. Our company just recently converted to Microsoft Project 2007. For installation of the work, I need to show weekend installation only, for nine consecutive weekends. I created a new calendar called "Weekend Work" and linked the pertinent tasks to this new schedule. My first installation is for 3 days with a start of Saturday and end date of Tuesday. It should have an end date of Monday. My remaining installation tasks have a duration of 2 days with a start of Saturday and an end date of Monday. It should have an end date of Sunday.     - problem with calanders - need help I am having one problem with one of my calanders for one of my projects. Start - 4/10/08 Finish - 5/10/08 There are two shifts, 19:00 4/10/08 to 05:00 5/10/08 05:00 - 23:00 5/10/08 I go into my calanders, i make a custom calander. How do i make this information above in my calander so it shows what i have as my start / finish times for both shifts. I have gone into the calander but it says: "the end of the shift must be greater than the start of the shift" when i put in 19:00PM - 05:00AM. What can i do to fix this problem up? I don't know of any way of doing that in Project. Not sure what 0-100 or
50-50 mean, so I'm not sure they would be good EV indicators, but you could
"roll your own" EV from XL, which is how I did it for years before Project
had EV working properly.
