    - how can i not display non-working time?     - protecting the schedule hello, there are a few Project Managers at my work who need to be able to view the schedules. I'm trying to protect the Project Schedule, so that they cannot modify it. I went to Save As -> Tools -> General Options and set passwords and clicked on read only. When I re-open it suggests it to be read only, but when I click "No", it does not require a password and takes me right in, letting me modify everything. What can I do?     - Failure to Calculate Consistantly Start/Finish Dates This one has me stumped. I am trying to bulid a template file using SP3 from an existing file. Here are the conditions: 1. Calculation set to Automatic 2. % Complete is zero 3. The Predecessor dependency is FS with no lag or overlap 4. Constraint Date, Actual Start, and Actual Finish are NA 5. Duration is 1 day 6. Effort Driven is NO 7. No resources have been assigned 8. Work is 0 hours In a running string of tasks under the same summary task Task 251 - for example - will finish on 3 November, and its successor 252 will start on 24 November. A second task - 256 - will have the same predecsssor (251) will start on 4 November. If I change 252 to any other ID, then change the predecessor back to 251, the problem resolves its self.     - Tasks Pending Approval don't show up In PWA (2007) home page it states I have "44 task updates from resources pending your approval." When I click on the link for Task Updates, it only shows 4 tasks to approve. After I approve them, all tasks are cleared, but in the home page, it now shows "40 task updates from resources pending your approval," but there aren't any more to approve... any suggestions? If I enter the duration in months and the start date of the activity, the end does not match the actual length of Calendar.     - printing with microsoft project 2007 I have a schedule with 1500 activities, the problem is that it is basically it is unworkable to print. When i try to print directly to the printer or to pdf it takes a long time and generates huge files. If i save as a 2003 and print from 2003 ms project version there is no problems. This applies with all the vendor schedules that we get in pdf which i also have a problem printing, this problem exists not only with the printers here but at other offices and organisations. It appears as though the problem is definetly with the algorithm for priniting used by project 2007. Microsoft dont care, depsite numerous attempts to get them to look at the issue. I sent a softcopy of the schedule and asked them to print it, to see for themselves, no response. i assume that all you users out there either have schedules that are less than 50 activities in detail, or you simply dont print out the schedules. i believe that it is fraudulent of microsoft to sell a product that does not work, how they can get away with this is beyond belief. i hope to get a reponse (a helpful one that is) ???????     - I have task running days for training program but no start/stop da I am the head of training for Hershey Ice Cream and am starting to use project. Currently I have training programs that are a set number of days that I would like to schedule into Project. Until someone is hired there is no specific start or end dates. Once hired, the schedule sets itself. MY QUESTION... When creating a training schedule in Project do I have to set a Start or End date if all I actually have is a set number of running days? Can I enter the tasks, set the days for each task, and leave the start and end date open? With the start date and number of task days set, the end date would set itself.     - Update Actual Start and Finish Dates in MS Project 2000 I have recently taken over updating the schedule for my organisation and true to form I have not been shown how to update it.     - predecessors won't copy I have a project in which I have lots of drifferent tasks that have the same subtasks. So I was trying to just copy and paste the subtasks. Usually when you copy and paste the predecessors they move and renumber but for some reason on this project the predecessors just don't copy at all.     - Sharing Complex Projects with Others Hello, I manage multiple projects and have set up MS project plans (Project Standard 2003, SP1) for each project. I have links between some of the projects due to dependencies. I also set up a resource pool shared by all projects since all team members ultimately role up to the same senior manager. Finally, I set up a master plan by creating a new project and using the project insert method with projects linked. Is there a way to share this master project plan with others without including the individual plans that are linked and the resource pool? Can I create a locked or read only version of the master? One of the development managers I work with wants an MS MPP file that shows his resources and projects (spans several of the individual projects but not all) so that he can view resources, timelines, etc. I do not want to send all of my files, and would prefer that he have a read only version of the master that he can manipulate with views, filters, groups, etc without having the supporting source files.     - Recurring Task Reschedule I am just wondering is there an easy/standard way let the schedule move an entire recurring task to a different start date. For example, Phase 2 has 1 meeting every week for two months and was originally due to start on 1/4/08. The start of Phase 2 has a Finish Start dependency with the end of Phase 1. Phase 1 is delayed by a month and hence the Start of Phase 2 is delayed, but I don't see any obvious way of getting the recurring task to move out a month.     - Project 2007 Performance over VPN Hi, I was wondering if anyone else has experienced performance problems opening Project files with Project 2007 over a VPN connection. We have experienced the following at 2 different companies with 2 different VPN configurations: 1 - Project Standard 2007 with SP1 is installed. 2 - The user connects over VPN. The line is either DSL or cable internet with speeds of 1.5 MB (DSL) or 15 MB (Cable). 3 - The user opens a 332KB Project File over the network and it takes 22-25 seconds to open. I can copy the file locally and open it from the C:\ drive and it takes 2-3 seconds. 4 - Opening a similar sized file over the network in Word 2007 or PowerPoint 2007 takes 2 seconds. We have tried with Project 2003 and 2007 formats. There are no external data sources or queries in the files. Nothing seems to help. Maybe there is a setting somewhere???     - Group Dollar Totals Here is what I have: A group of jobs listed under their respective school within a district (1-8) The totals for each school look good but, when you look at the total for the District it is approximately twice the totals of the combined school cost.     - Task dates before and after a due date Our business has a due date for various client projects with tasks that need to be completed x amount of days before this due date and some that need to be completed y amount of days after this due date. For example: Task 1 needs to be done 7 days before the the due date (-7 days). Task 2 needs to be done 3 days before the due date (-3 days). The due date (0 days). Task 3 needs to be done 30 days after the due date (+30 days). Task 4 needs to be done 90 days after the due date (+90 days). The due date is what drives all other task dates. Other than making Task 4 the end date and backing up the other tasks accordinly (including the due date), I'm wondering if there's a way to do the above in Project 2002. I've done a fair amount of research and tested different ways to try and accomplish this but am admittedly not a Project power user and don't have the time right now to become one so I'm posting this to the power users. However, if you have a program which creates pdf files, you could "print" the report to the pdf program, creating a pdf file and email that." User does have Adobe Acrobat 8 but when she tries to print a report to PDF the only printer selection is her default network printer. No other printers, including her PDF printer are available in the drop down. We tried selecting PDF printer as the default and printing reports again but once again only the network printer was available. In normal practice if anyone is using ms project 2003 , when we assign a task to specified resources in a project we assign some allocated time against that tasks and the resource books his/her effort(in Timesheet for timetracking ) ... ....now after this task gets 100% done and still showing to both the project manager and resource in view , its a big drawback ...     - Finish->Start Issue I seem to be having an issue with Finish-Start dependencies on a number of tasks on my project plan. All tasks in question are 8 hours of work or multiples of 8 hours. The problem is that for a number of tasks the successor task is starting the same day the predecessor task is finishing. There are also a number of tasks in the plan that are starting a day after the predecessor finishes. I thought for FS dependencies the successor task should start a day after the previous task finishes. All tasks are fixed duration with "Effort driven" and "Estimated" unchecked. Our work day is 8 hours long. I did some troubleshooting and found that: 1. There are no actual hours reported against those tasks 2. There are no holidays that fall during the duration of those tasks 3. The resource assigned is not taking any time off during the duration of those tasks 4.     - Activating Project 2007 Hi, I'm distributing Project 2007 across a large number of lab computers. I put the PIDKey in the config.xml, and it installed/ran just fine. There's only one little gripe, which is that when a user first run project 2007 on a machine, he sees the product activation wizard and has to click on next and so on to complete the activation. Ideally we'd like it to run like Office 2007 volume license version with which users don't have to manually activate, because otherwise a lot of users will call in to ask how to go through the wizard. As there is no volume license version of Project 2007 Professional (as I heard), is there a way to somehow "silently" activate project? Thanks!     - Gantt chart bar displays wrong time I am using Project 2007. We are mapping out an industrial process in seconds by manually scaling hours as minutes and minutes as seconds. I have the timescale set as minutes with a 10 count and 1,2,3,4 label. When I put a number over 240 mins in for duration, the gantt chart bar adds 60 to the number.     - Selecting a network printer to print Reports in Project 2003 I work in a corporate environment where I have a choice of printing to 5 network printers I have added from my network directory. When I select a report in Project then try to print I only have my default printer available to print to, the drop down box that would normally contain 5 selections is greyed out.     - Selecting a cell in VBA Hi, I'm trying to write a simple macro to go through a task list and change the font of any cells that meet a certain criteria. The code works in that it goes through all the tasks and checks if it fits the criteria. But when I tell it to change the font it only does it on the activecell. Schedule. What is the most accurate way of doing this?
