    - Turning off Managed Time Periods Is there any adverse affect to turning off Managed Time Periods? We have decided to not use this feature, but I don't want to lose any actuals or have to republish all plans or anything like that. Has anyone had any experience with this already?     - Exporting/Editing Risks I am trying to use the Risks in Web Access 2003, and although I like the on-line containment of these risks, it is often necessary to export this information to Excel in order to manipulate the information and report on it. However, when I hit 'Export to Spreadsheet', I get a message about Windows Sharepoint services...does this mean that I have to have Excel 2003 intalled in order to use this functionality?     - What is best way of setting up part-time resources? AFAIK there seem to be 2 different ways of setting up a resource as part time. 1. is in their personal callendar to set the days or hours they work. e.g. highlight all thurs and frid as nonworking time for a 3 day week 2. the other is in the resource information box, General tab to set their availability, e.g. 60% fora 3 day week. There seem to be pros and cons for each method: e.g. the second would account for bank holidays correctly (i.e. they would only get a pro-rata time off for bank holidays) but seems it would be confusing if they book days off. The first method (which I have started using) is ok, but if you only want the resource to work 1 day during a 1 week duration task, instead of setting the units to 20% as you would usually, you have to set it to 33% (i.e. 33% of their 3 day week).     - Display Elapsed Duration I would like to display two columns for durations for a given task that is 8 working days. The project uses the standard calendar, i.e., Saturdays and Sundays are not working days. For example: Task A - Start: 3/18/05 8 working days duration Finish 3:29/05 Duration in Project displays 8 days. How do I set up a field that will display the elaped duration of 11 days. I have tried to use formulas for Duration 1 such as subtracting the start date from the finish date but have had no luck.     - Where are the Actuals? Hi All, I have a test project running in a PWA environment. I have a task that was dated to start and finish on April 15th. I took a baseline snapshot of it. I then posted actual work (through PWA) and completed it on April 17th. The question is, why do my Actual Start and Actual Finish dates say April 15th instead of April 17th?     - Notifying recources via email MS Project 2003 Standard. I created a project and assigned resources. Now I need to contact the resources about their assigned tasks - it appears I can send the assigned task as an attachment file or attachment pic (or print the whole chart to pdf) - I would like to be able to send an email notification with the specific task and schedule - as text in the email - and better yet - with an attachment with the deadline as an Outlook calendar appointment. - So far I have not been able to locate a proper means to communicate to the team what their task and deadline is - can someone please let me know if a text message with details can be generated for each resource - thanks.     - Can you change gandt display of resource [%] to resource [work in I have a project with some part time staff who I have set to a 2.5 day callendar. When I assign a task to them their percentage allocations are double the other resources. This makes the percentages very misleading. I like to have my gandt chart with the resource name(s) on the bars. Is there a way of changing the percentage to the number of hours per resource? So for e.g a 1w task, instead of saying John Smith [100%] Sally Jones [20%] it would say John Smith [40h] Sally Jones [8h] Or can you think of another useful way the gandt can be printed out with this kind of information easily seen.     - Automatic time entry Hello, I would like to know if anyone knows if there is a way to automate the work time data entry in MS-Project ? Right now, my "human" resources enters their work time in a Time Sheet tool that can output its database in a comma or space separated fields format.     - How to reference a cell by row, column in VB in project I am writing some VB code to do some checking in my project file. I am familiar how to reference cells in EXCEL but don't seem to be able to find the right code to do the same in project. I want to reference a particular location by row and column.     - Resource usage sheet export to excel I am using the resource usage sheet as a method to create a rolling 6 week work schedule for a number of resources. The method I am using is a bit cumbersome and I am wondering if there is an easier way to do it. What I do each week is as follows:- 1. Go to resource usage view and expand all resource assignments. 2. Make sure the timescale is formatted to show at least 6 weeks. 3. Select columns from the table part (resource, id, work, remaining work, actual work and several dates [I have modified this table]) and cut and paste to excel. 4. Select 6 weeks of work columns and cut and paste to excel. 5. Convert the work values from text e.g. "3.5d" to equivalent hours using formulas in excel. (Can this step be avoided by getting project to output numbers ?) 6. From a seperate project task view cut and paste the task id and a custom text field into another worksheet and use vlookup to get the custom text into my work schedule. (I have not found a way to get a task field to appear in a work view). 7. Further manipulate the data in excel and use a pivot table to get the work schedule by resource. 8.     - "This date is not Valid" error in MS project 2000 When copying a file to a new file i receive the following error, and i don't understand what is the problem in the file that it indicates. i work with MSproject 2000 connected to SQL server.     - Printing Resource Usage Report I am attempting to print a Resource Usage report from Project 2000. The project has a very long timeline and I want to only print a specific date range. I enter the date range on the Print dialog box, however the print preview and print out both contain the entire date range. Should I be defining the date range on another dialog box?     - Crash Loop with PowerPoint and Projector Several members of my trainining team and I experience this problem with several different brands of laptop and projectors. PowerPoint 2003 and MS-Project Professional 2003 SP1 tend to interact badly. When you try to simultaneously display PowerPoint 2003 and MS-Project 2003 on a projector, Project tends to go into an infinite crash and restart loop. Project seems to do this whenever displayed on a projector, and the video resolution is anything other than the default. I suspect PowerPoint 2003 changes the video resolution without telling us. Once Project Professional 2003 SP1 starts doing this, it seems to keep doing it after you unplug the projector and press the buttons on the laptop that tell it not to output video to the external video port. Uninstalling and re-installing Project doesnâ??t help. Re-booting doesn't always help. Eventually some magic keystroke, I can't figure out what, will get project to load ok, but it dies again when you connect back up to the projector with PowerPoint going.     - Drill into Project from Project Center No Details I cannot get the details of a project plan to publish and appear when I drill into a Project Plan from the Project Center view. I have confirmed that the tasks are appearing on timesheets for the appropriate resources. However when I go to the project details it says there is nothing to display because either the pm has not published the plan or there is nothing in the plan to display. I have reviewed the Categories and confirmed that everything is turned on. I have logged in with the Administrator login and I still cannot see anything with regard to Project details.     - BCWP (Resource Usage) not equal BCWP (Task Usage) As the subject indicates, I have different values for the same WBS between diffrent views. I would expect the task usage view BCWP to be higher than the resource usage view but that isn't the case here. There is a delta of 25k between the two.     - PWA updating time on MS Projects We have found that if you log 4 hours of 8 hours scheduled work on a specific date on MS Projects, it does not affect the Final date. BUT if you log the same example via PWA, it automatically moves the outstanding 4 hours to the following date. Why does it not work the same on both environments?     - Can I track critical paths for multiple projects in one file? I'm trying to manage multiple small projects and would like to be able to track and view them on one file. I haven't been able to figure out how to set up the file so that the critical path is displayed for each main task or "outdented" task. The "outdents" are the individual project name andthe subtasks are all of the task rlated to that project.     - Fixed Cost I have a project schedule where there are several "contracted" tasks (bid contracts). Under each contracted tasks are of course subtasks that these contractor will have to perform.     - Task Marked as critical by Project when progress is updated I have several tasks in my project plan that go from non critical to critical when I record progress against them. For exmple, for one of the tasks I have removed all dependencies and initially I have a total slack of 234 days. The task is fixed work, effort driven and has 3.75days work with an elapsed duration of 7.47days and has an "as soon as possible" constraint. If I record 1.49 days actual work, the total slack stays at 234days and the task remains non critical. If I record any value above 1.5 days actual work the total slack becomes zero and the task becomes critical. I cannot find a logical explanation for this and would appreciate some advice.     - Trailing split hi there I would like to know what the trailing split signifies and how to avoid it in the following scenario. In my office move project, I have a shutdown during which I need an electrician to put in some cabling, everyone else is not working so I have blocked that week out as non-working time in the Standard calendar. I then edited the Electrician's calendar so he was working that week. The trailing split appeared so I set his calendar back to default, created a new calendar for him to work to and then edited that calendar. The trailing split reappeared. Why????????     - Salvaging something I have Project 98 on an older computer that needs a clean install of operating system to correct a variety of issues. Unfortunately I have lost the Project 98 disk, and I understand that there is no way to copy the program from the hard drive.     - Task Progress I have a descrepency of two days between the"Task Progress" bar and the "Progress Line" when I update two particular tasks. Both tasks are showing the same % complete in the "% Work Complete" and "% Complete" columns.     - Schedule Variance - getting a wierd value Every once in while I get a wierd values returned in the schedule variance (SV) field. Meaning it does not relate the to actual work performed. For example a resource scheduled for 1 hour of work at $100/hr retruns a SV of ($9.29), when I entered 1 hour of acutal work. I am leaning toward the Project Status and Current Date fields.     - Assigning Resource Names to Complete Category In MS Project 2003 how do you assign the same resource names to about six tasks that all come under the same "Category" (this is a new column I inserted).For example, I have a category called HR Issues and within that category about six tasks.
