    - Project server2003 trial Is there a way I can get a trial version of Project Server 2003 for evaluation purposes? If so is there anyway I can get it to load on a standard PC without all the SQL server bits so that I can get a look at the user interface and get a feel for what it can do and what the views are? I have browsed a number of sites including microsoft and have not yet come across any screenshots and detailed examples of what can actually be done with the software.     - Poor performance during tasks adding Hi to all, I'm using the COM Project from my application to add a large number of tasks to a project in which I created many custom fields and outline codes. I create an MSProject.Application instance (called i.e. myproj1) when I load my application and after I loop for each task I need to add calculating the fields of the current task and adding it to the myproj1.Tasks collection at the botton of the loop. This approach has very poor performances when I add a thousand of tasks and causes the crach of my application! I think that the problem could be the call of the add method thousand times..     - Extracting MSP_TIMEPHASED_DATA via ODBC connection to SQL Server Our requirement is to extract the timephased data from the MSP_TIMEPHASED_DATA table stored in SQL Server. After reviewing the ProjDB.HTM project database tables information and examining the actual storage or data in this table it looks like an near impossible job to extract/interpret the data for a DAY by DAY view. Has anyone done this? I have already developed a method to extract the timephased data using the OLEDB provider for MS Project which presents task, assignment and resource views of data at all time levels (i.e. minute, hour, day, etc..) This works really well and we have developed a solution that meets our requirements perfectly from this data source. However, this method requires the MS Project be installed on the Workstation/PC (i.e. the OLEDB provider is installed by MS Project). The problem with this is that ALL users(clients) or our application software will require MS Project to be installed to be able to view this data. Whilst it is NOT MANDATORY to have MS project installed to run our software there will be certain aspects of our software which cannot be used unless MS Project is installed. We use the autofilter on the Client Name column to show just the activities for particular clients. This is great until we save it as a web page and it ignores the filter and shows everything.     - % Complete, etc. ok, I've inserted a custom field that is just a number field for Physical % Complete. The reason I'm not using the Project provided field for this is because of the way that actual hours and remaining hours are directly affected by Phys. % complete. Here's the idea (then I'll tell you the problem): This allows resources to say that they are %50 complete for example, when they have used either less or more than %50 of the planned hours. They can also say that even though they are %50 percent complete they have more than % 50 of the planned hours remaining in order to finish the task (let's say the last half of the work is more complex than the first half or they realize it's going to take longer because of some other issue). We like this flexibility and it tells us everything we need to know about a given task. problem: Since it's a custom number field, the percentages don't "roll up" so you can't see how much complete the overall project is. And also, if a resource does not consume all of the hours estimated for the task, I believe that the resource allocations will continue to show that resource allocated against the task even though it is actually completed. It seems to me that we either have to get the PMO Physical Complete % to update in a similar way as the % Complete or we may have to use the standard % Complete instead. Anybody have any ideas???     - Assigning task as "monthly", "qtrly" & visually displaying on cale I'm trying to use MS Project to document our strategy with cascading objectives, initiatives and resulting scorecards. I want the scorecards to be an item that I can visually display occurance as monthly, quarterly, etc. I've been looking at either making them a material resource or a recurring task. I can't figure out the best way to do it because I don't want to have to assign hours or any calculation. I saw a feature where you could use an icon, it has colored balls to choose from. And, I'd prefer the "parent" item in the outline not to show those assignments in the calendar because then my calendar gets messy looking.     - With Master/Subs - only one user can edit? Background: I am on a project team that is using Project Pro 2003. I want to setup a master project and insert several sub- projects. I need to retain the ability to have the subproject managers edit their project files simoultaneously. Problem: To test this ability I created separate master project and subproject files on a file server. Following the instructions for setting up the master project subproject relationship I "included" the subproject into the master project. So far so good. I was able to set up dependencies between master and sub just as I had expected. Then with the master project open (not the subproject) I asked a counterpart to open the subproject. When he attempted to open the subproject a dialog box indicated that I had the project open and he could only open the subproject read only. As mentioned I need to have this setup so that the separate subproject files can be edited simoultaneously bny the respective subproject managers. Is this possible with Project 20034 Pro or does this type of simoutlaneous update of subproejcts require the use of Project Enterprise?     - Problem using Access to update Project I'm not very familiar with project but I know access well. I have been given the task of updating a project file using access. I am updating dates for tasks using access querys. After the updates are complete I use project open the mdb as a mpp. The changes for the task dates are there, everything looks good. But the milestone dates which are supposed to change automatically based on the task dates aren't changing. Its like project doesn't know the dates have been changed since the changes were made in access. Also, If you try to change the milestone dates manualy, the updated task dates(dates changed in access) reset to the selected milestone dates. Has anyone seen this before?     - MS Project 2003 I am evaluating MS Project 2003 and I am trying to get a Gantt chart printed as a PDF so I can take it to the print shop for a large format print (36" wide). As usual Project is dismal at formatting time scales but to add insult to injury now any Gantt chart on and size other than letter results in missing bars / cells / text etc or a 10% scaling of the entire Gantt chart on the page. I end up with a 11x17 gantt with the entire chart 2" wide on the left side next to the printed cells! This happens with on all printers and with Adobe Acrobat v5 and v6. I have yet to register this product and I hope to resolve this otherwise I will be returning it. Any ideas out there? I have been searching the web on this but can't find any other links to this.     - Typical file size I have an MPP file that has 772 tasks and is about 1.5 MB in size. It was about 2.5 MB, but I found a tip that if you saved it as an MPB file then back as an MPP it would remove any "bloat" - that reduced it to the current 1.5MB. Project has a calendar view. Have you tried that?
If it is not on your view menu, select the view/more views menu, scroll down
to Calendar, select Edit and click the "Show in menu" button.
