    - Network diagrams I am aware that you can use 'flags' to enable conditional formatting of the bars within the Gantt chart for example automatically changing colours based on % completion.     - Windows Vista and Microsoft Project 2003 I made the mistake of downloading the microsoft validation. I have Windows Vista, Office Professional 2007 and Project 2003. Whenever I try to download a template for any MS product (Word, Excel) from MS's website, I get the message "You may be the victim of software counterfeiting" and it complains about Microsoft Project. Of course, I have not been. All my software has been purchased on CD's, all in their original packaging and all with the appropriate software keys. I've downloaded the latest patches for MS Project, but to no avail.     - New resource allocation percentage is ignored I use a shared resource pool. I noticed that somehow my percentage allocation on a task was 106%. Don't know how that happened.. but I changed the task allocation to 15% and then saved the project and the resource pool. Apparently Microsoft doesn't like that answer because each time I close and re-open these projects, the percentage is back at 106%. The only way it does not bounce back to that value is if I open the sharer project alone and do not open the resource pool when asked.     - Auto Filter Hi, I would like to disable my autofilter automatically whenever I open MS-project. Apparently, at the moment, my auto filter is always "on" on each field (indication of arrows pointing downwards on each field name) , and its really frustrating.     - Task Sorting/Custom Group I am using Project Standard 2003. I have a 500 task schedule. The proposal submitted was placed in a project file in a given order. However, now we need to "resort" the schedule. I inserted Text1 and input the groupings that I want.. GoupA, GroupB, etc. Some of these tasks are together, but others are not. GroupA may be tasks 10,11,12,13 and then 121,122, and 200 to 225. Similar for the other groups. Each of these groups has its own summary task. I want to regroup the schedule and still keep the same indenture of summary tasks where practical. This way, all my GroupA is together. What is the best approach to do this?     - Customized Field using Formula Hello, I am trying to create a customized field that will do the following: -Take today's date minus the finish date of a task then compare the value to the remaining duration to provide with an estimated status of the task going to be late or on time (using the added field on the project, I put Green, Yellow, Red icon to specify which tasks are going to ok, maybe late, are late). This is mostly for upper management and I am sure that there are other ways of doing the same thing (I would not mind hearing about it too). I have used multiple different formulas but it does not seems to come accross as expected. Again here is my idea as an example: Working 8 hours a day/40 hours a week for 4 weeks would be 20days/160 hours total. Start date is: 10/01/2007 Finish date is: 10/30/2007 Today's date is: 10/05/2007 The task is at 10% completion (meaning 16 hours would have been spent on it). If I were to compare: Finish date - Today's date, I would get (I am guessing) 16 days left. Based on it, I would want to then compare the amount of days left (16) to the Remaining Duration (10% of total 20 days/160 hours would be 2 days/16 hours) and would find that I am in jeopardy already since I should really be at almost 25%.     - Duration lost when opening a Project2003 file in Project2007 Hello Doctors!!! Have you ever seen this bug? I´ve built a plan in a machine with Project Standart 2003 and when opening this plan in a machine with Project Standard 2007, some task durations are lost! The problem only happens in tasks which I selected type "fixed duration", have entered some duration in days, have a resource assigned, but work is "0 hours". (this setting is because I don´t want to track work on these tasks). So, example, if I have a task which has work=0hrs; duration=3days in Project2003, when I open it in Project 2007 it will show work=0hrs; duration=0days. I tried to equalize the "Options" parameters in both machines, but the problem is still there.     - MSP 2003 with new install Office2007 I've finally been given a new laptop. Office2007 was installed from new (ie not an upgrade) and I have been trying without success to get MSP2003 to work. It keeps crashing, especially when I click on a dropdown (eg resource). On my previous laptop, I had office 2000, Project 2003 (upgrade from 2000) and then Office2007 upgraded - and all worked fine. Has anyone encountered this? Is there anything I can do to fix it? Seems a bit rough to be forced to buy MSP 2007 just because Microsoft made a bit of a hash.     - SP3 Macro error(?) when opening SP2 files with security on them I have a problem over here. Running Microsoft Project 2003 Pro and recently (as in this week) installed SP3. We have many .mpp files over here with security on them, saved with passwords. Now, when anyone with SP3 installed tries to open a password secured .mpp file that was created in SP2 it requests the password twice and then spits out a error and then won't open the file. the error is: ------------------------------------------------ an unexpected error occurred during command execution. try the following: verify that all argument names and values are correct and are of the correct type. you have run out of memory. to free up available memory close programs windows projects.... -------------------------------------------------------------- WHAT IS WORSE, is when i ask someone with SP2 to then resave the file WITHOUT a password, it still won't open the file and spits out the same error message. This seems a MAJOR flaw in SP3. Any unsecured .mpp files open fine. I then attempted the registry fix here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941466 and it now requests the password once, doesn't spit out the error message, but the .mpp opens up to a new and blank document!!! please help! we've got hundreds of these files and many of them are secured and i can't uninstall the service pack. I copy the Start and Finish dates of the entire project and paste them as a link into the start and finish dates of a task called "Project Management" I need to have the project management task stretch the entire length of the project and any changes made to the plan update the Project management task automatically... Hi, I'm occassionally seeing an issue with MSP2007 where the tasks will suddenly be jumbled up, indentations moved, task descriptions blanked and even whole tasks removed from the schedule. My project has the following layout: - Deliverable 1 task has three subtasks. - Deliverable 2 task has four sub tasks. - The duration for each sub tasks is 5 days long. - I have Fixed Duration set for each task - The same resource works on all tasks - There is no dependency between Deliverable 1 and Deliverable 2 When I Level my project MS Project will mix the schedule for tasks from Deliverable 1 and Deliverable 2. What setting do I have to enable to make sure that MS project schedules all subtasks for Deliverable 1 together and all subtasks for Deliverable 2 together?     - Filtering all subtasks tasks for a task Hello, I have a task A and task B. Task A has subtasks A1 and A2. A2 in turn has substasks A21 and A22. Task B has subtask B1. A22 starts when B1 completes. How do I define filtering criteria to show all subtasks of A plus all tasks which are not subtasks of A but on which any of A's subtasks depend (B1)? Basically I have 2 projects A and B and the order of subtasks is mixed between the 2 projects. Sometimes I need to report only on taks A and that set should also contain all tasks on which any of A's subtask depend. However I do not need to show more than 1 task going back in the time line.     - Column Calculations Hello, I need some help with a column calculation on project plan template. The first column defines the category i.e. Painting the House. The second column has times for individual tasks involved with painting the house: scraping, priming, painting and clean up. We assigned 25 hours for painting the house. We want to net the hours from the 25 hours as each task is completed. For example, if team member entered 5 hours for scraping. The total for painting the house would 25 -5 = 20.     - Linking Tasks to a Summary Project (master) I have used the command "paste special" to link tasks from other projects into one project to be used as a summary project. For some reason the links are not able to hold their reference connection and the link is lost and project can't find it even though it's path is pointing in the right place.     - After Timesheet Update Project no longer displays in Timesheet Vie We are using Project Server 2003. We have a regular project plan (not an administrative plan) to track miscellaneous administrative activities. The plan contains approximately 6 Summary Tasks. Team members use the plan via the 'Create A New Task' function when they need to record time against this plan. The plan will display in their Task Page and they are able to enter time for the newly created task. However, when they do an update all the project plan no longer is displayed in their Task Page. Changing the option on the Task Page to display All Activities doesn't have any affect. The acutal time is captured and reported to the project manager, but the project plan no longer remains on their Task Page. Why? This plan was also added in our Project 2003 development environment and it remains on the Task Page after an update; it doesn't behave the same as the version in production. Why is it disappearing in our production environment? Also, we have another plan that is similar where by team members record non-project related support for existing applications. The plan is the same concept as the plan to track miscellaneous administrative activities, except we have a Summary Task for each application that our area supports. Team members use again use the 'Create a New Task' feature to update this plan. This plan doesn't disappear from their Task Page in the Development or Production environment after doing an update. So I do know that the behavior that I am seeing with the miscellaneous administrative activities is unique to our production environment and only to this one plan. I think it would be very useful to be able to set a logo (or whatever) to appear in the header of all report variants in a project. Hello. I'm trying to export a *.mpp file into another management program but
I have some problems.

I have a project with apox 500 activities I want to export. The export fails
when I export *.mpp file, but after having i Project saved as *.mpt I have no
problems with the export.

My question is:What is the differences between *.mpp and *.mpt concerning
the activities? Is some information lost doing it this way?

I notice nobody is eager to answer.
I'm afraid that's because nobody ever heard of such a difference - I
definiely haven't!
