    - Resource Over Allocation I'm using Project 2000. I am needing to identify by resource group any overallocations. Based on the nature of the projects it appears the easiest way to do this is to assign by groups not individuals. My thought process is to make resources such as Engineering, Testing, QC, etc. I have a couple of questions regarding this approach: 1. Would I change the max unit % in the Resource Sheet to correspond with the number of individuals in the Group. Such as if there are 10 Engineers the max unit % would be 1,000? 2.     - Date format in Header Hi all, Trying to do something simple but not having much luck. In the header/footer of a task sheet, I'm trying to get the saved date to print in the format 'd mmm, yyyy'. The default format for the date in the project is DDD yy mmm dd, and I'd like to keep that for now. I have tried via Tools, Customise, Fields and although Cost is specified as a type, Baseline Cost is not included in the list.     - Changing work I have a task set up as fixed work and effort driven. Its set up to 40 hours work. When assigning one resource to 100 % everything is ok.=20 The duration i set up to 40 h. When changing the allocation to 80 % the duration is set=20 to 50 h. So far so good. After this I assign one additional resource and set that=20 one and the previous to 50 %.=20 Now the duration is set to 49.23 hours. The work still is=20 40 h. I don=B4t understand this calculation.     - setting task starting time by hour? I have a weekend project that starts on Friday night and finishes Monday morning. How do I tell Project 2000 to start a task at a specific time (say 8 pm) on a specific date (say august 6), but not at 8 am (which is the native start time)?     - Adjust task bar height I have yet to figure out how to adjust the task bar height on my project so that the longer named tasks can be seen within the bar on the screen and when I print my project.     - Project WG for Outlook We are trying to use the task based feature of project with outlook with good results but have two systems that keep getting an ole error. WGSETUP.EXE is what is needed to bring project and outlook together to deligate task to specfic people within outlook. The error I keep getting on the systems is "One or more OLE controls failed during initialazation. Reinstall workgroup features and then try agian."     - Document libraries in PWA We are a software house just starting to pilot MS Project 2003 & Project Server. I want to ask our project managers to publish product development documentation via the PWA Documents page. There are different sets of doc for different phases of the development lifecycle, e.g. specification, testing, beta etc So ideally I would like to get a standard set of libraries to come up when the subweb is created for the project upon publication to the project server.     - Preventing task going accross two days I have MS Poject sort all of my jobs by priority then schedule them based on based on available resources. All jobs are less then a day in duration so when the next job will not fit into the balance of a day, I want it to be moved to the next day.     - %Work Complete vs. %Complete (Duration) in E.V. Calculations It seems to me that there is a lot of tension between the concept of duration and the concept of work in MSP. I imagine that MSP was originally designed to work with duration only and that work was an afterthought, which has still never been fully integrated into the product. MS, for example, allows you to enter and update duration and % Complete through the Task Information and the Update Tasks dialog box, but not Work & %WorkComplete! And MSP uses % Complete to calculate earned value (SPI, CPI) rather than %WorkComplete, which seems ludicrous. I really expected that they would use % Work Complete for this calculation, since earned value is all about WORK: planned, burned and earned. And %Work Complete can be a radically different value than the % Complete on projects at any given point in time. WORK is cumulative (a real sum) under the project summary task, whereas duration is not! As must be apparent, I've got some real frustration about the way MSP deals with these concepts, so if you know of any papers that elucidate this problem, I'd love to know about them. It seems like the MSP team has been avoiding or patching a problem when they really ought to completely revamp their approach to statusing projects. Why can't we enter actual work and remaining work through the Update Task dbox, for example. Is it that MSP code won't support it? Why not? Why do they keep asking about remaining duration instead of remaining work? I'd be glad to hear anyone's thoughts on the subject, as well as to hear about any MS white papers or papers from other sources that clarify what seems like a big problem to me. I may be wrong, but I smell a rat buried in the MSP woodwork. It may be that I just haven't grasped it yet. Very possible. I'm interested in hearing other ideas on this subject.     - Troubleshooting Circular References Hi, all, My partner and I are crashing on a set of updates to a master with 24 or so subplans. In some cases, as we are trying to alter or fill in predecessors and successors, we get the "cannot accept entry, circular reference..." or words to that effect. And it seems nothing we can do makes a difference, including deleting all of the entries in both columns in that block of tasks (all the ones under a summary task). Upon attempt to link to a task external to that subplan draws the same error, but in neither cases does project identify what line number is the problem. Any ideas?     - Forecasted finish date using partially completed task info I have a task whose Planned finish date is 7/15/04. As of 7/22, the task is marked as 75% complete. Is there a way to see what the projected finish date of the task, and the overall project is, assuming that there are dependant tasks to this task? I know that once I add the "Actual Finish Date" into the task information, thereby making the task 100% complete, dependant tasks will move out accordingly. What I am looking for, however, is a view/report to estimate what the projected Task and/or Project Finish date would be by calculating the partial completion of overdue tasks.     - Importing Resources From Excel to Tasks in Project 2003 I am trying to Import a set of Resources with Estimated Hours(Work) per Resource per Task from an Excel spreadsheet and match these resources with their respective Tasks in Project 2003.     - Issues and Risks Hello! All, In an effort to take that Issues and Risks of all the plans on Project Server. The client has opted to place all of the name of the plans into project schedule in order to track the issues and risks in one location instead of looking at each plan under the Issues and Risks Screens in PWA. This was done because it appeared to be the quickest solution to an immediate need--since a rollup customization of Issues and Risks would require a little bit of time. Therefore,I have encountered a problem where I need to resolve the following items: 1) Not all users can see Issues and Risks of a particular plan. 2) Some users can see the plan but can not access it. 3) Not all global resources appear in the "owner/submitted by" drop down list.
