I have applied custom colors and patterns to a number of nodes on my PERT
chart (not network diagram) using a variety of methods, e.g. all those
selected by a filter, selecting all by drag-n-drop, individual formatting,
etc.

I would like to remove all user-applied formatting and have it return to the
default, so I can then re-apply my formatting <g>.

How can I clear all user-applied formatting?

Dann,

This is a very common situation and it is much better to think about how it
comes about and how to prevent it rather than how to repair it, although the
repair is easy enough.
First, a word about the built-in Tables, Views, Filters, Groups, Calendars
etc etc, basically everything that comes out of the box (ie out of the
Global Template).
They should all be preserved as they are, and not messed with to the point
of having all of their original, as-designed, appearance and functionality
eroded away by miscellaneous whimsical "improvements".
Views are especially subject to this because this is where the formatting is
and people like to while away the hours colouring in the bars and text in
order, apparently, to make the network diagram or the Gantt Chart as ugly
and indecipherable as possible.
If they do get changed substantially (hard to define but start by being very
strict, no changes are best except for v small exceptions), then this "new"
View should be re-named with a distinctive name and the original recovered
from the Global Template.
You can do the re-naming and recovery with
TOOLS, ORGANISER
Note that you cannot re-name or over-write the View that you are currently
in, so before TOOLS, ORGANISER switch to another View.
Don't over-write the originals in the Global Template with the "improved"
because they are your only source of the originals.
The names of new Tables, Views, Filters, Groups, Calendars etc etc, should
start with something like "AA..." so that they go to the tops of the lists
and you can find them and distinguish them from the originals.
This is all just good housekeeping but it saves a lot of time.

Yes, I understand. I have saved the orginal PERT view and I am working in a
view call "xxx-Formatted PERT." Both are present on my menu and I can switch
between them easily.

However, my problem is that the default PERT view is spread across 100+
pages (for an 800 task network) and the xxx-Formated PERT is constrained to
12 pages, which I think is sufficient for a logical and readable layout. I
would like to color code the boxes by the business area reasponsible for the
associated task. You seem to be saying that since i have attempted this on
this view in the past, there is no way to restore the visual formatting to
the defaults without resorting to the original PERT chart and starting the
layout process all over. There is no equivalent to Word's "<ctrl>-space" (I
think it is) which removes all user applid formats and retrurns them to the
default?

Hello Dan,

Have you tried, Edit > Clear > Formats? I don't have Project here to check
but that is somewhat equivalent to CTRL + [Spacebar] in word.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

When you say "PERT View" I suppose you mean Network Diagram View, with the
boxes, instead of with the bars like in the Gantt Chart.
I am not suggesting that you will have to start over.
You have the original Network Diagram View that you have imported from the
Global Template.
You also now have this new View which includes all of the extra formatting,
some of which you would like to remove.
If you want to just remove the extra formatting from the individual bars
(Gantt Chart View) or the boxes (Network Diagram View), just right click on
the bar or the box, choose Format bar or Format box, and click the reset
button.

When you say 100+ pages, what size pages?

The Network View always presents a printing problem because it is mainly
white space and takes up lots of paper.
You can zoom it down and roll it up to Summaries etc but it usually still
chews up paper.
