    - Task with higher priority does not get scheduled first I have set up different priorities for different tasks. One task has a priority of 750 while the others have either 500 or 300. When I level my resources using Leveling Order = Priority, Standard, I expected the task with the 750 priority to be done first, then the 500 then the 300. The 750 task has 40 hours on it while the others are far less ~8 hours each. I am using the enterprise version. The same resource assigned for the 750 priority task is also assigned to some of the 500 priority tasks. This same resource is also assigned to other projects.     - Tasks linked but not repsonding to changes without both being open At this point I have linked a task from a subproject to a master project. I did this by copying the link and paste special, link. Work great and easy to do. However in order to see the changes in the master that I make in the subproject I have to have them both open.     - Breaking large projects into smaller ones causes resource conflict I had a large project with assigned resources and baseline hours. This was too large to manage so I broke it down into 2 smaller projects. The way I did this was by making a copy of the larger project then deleting the tasks for that I didn't want in either project. I did not unassign resources. I kept the first project under its original name and renamed the second project. Now when I level the second project my resources cannot start until after they have completed their assignment on the original project. The problem is they no longer have tasks on the original project. For some reason my second project thinks they are still assigned to the first project.     - Breaking larger projects into smaller causes leveling conflict I have a large project with resources and baseline hours assigned. it was too large to manage so I broke it down into smaller projects by making a copy of the project and deleting the tasks I did not want in each given smaller project. I still kept tasks under the name of the larger project. So essentially I have: Large_ Project Project A Project B When I go to level Project A my resources appear to still be commited to Large_Project even though I deleted the tasks along with the resources. When I look at the resource usage it in fact says that the resource is committed to both projects. When I look at Large_Project these resources are not there.     - Can't change the State of Proposals We are using the proposals to capture potential future projects. However, when a user creates a proposal and they don't have the Change State permission it seesm no-one can change it later.     - How to set Finish date to Actual Finish date when Task is completed Hi, If any of my resources compelet task and set 100% after schedule finish date, how can i make my "Finish" date equals to Actual Finish date and update Actual Work automatically which show total hrs spent on a task. My task calculation settings are automatic and all the four options are selected 1. Move end of completed parts after status date back to status date And Move start of remaining parts back to status date 2. Move start of remaining parts before status date forward to status date And move end of completed parts forward to status date. My status date is equal to surrent date.     - Task, resource calendars Hi all, I am very new to MSP 2007 and still learning it day by day. A have a very first question about the calendars when I plan some pilot projects. I have created a new calendar called "Non-Friday" where we work only from Sunday to Thursday (Friday and Saturday are non-working). I have set the project calendar to "Non-Friday". The timescale non-working calendar also has been set to "Non-Friday". The task calendar is also "Non-Friday". However, when I increase a task duration (scheduled for one day on Thursday) to 2 days, the Gantt chart shows this task also works on Friday (from Thursday to Friday). The task type I set is Fixed Units. Where is the step I am missing? How to schedule the task so that it will not work on non-working days? Thanks for any help.     - Changing Actual Overtime Work has wierd effects I am trying to set Project up at work to use overtime and have come across a problem. FYI, all the employees work 40 hour weeks and have overtime rates (after the 8 hours). Overtime is a random thing though, people do it when they need to as long as they can. My company estimates the length of our tasks in hours(work), so to accomodate this I have changed the project default task type to "Fixed Work". In the Entry table I added the field Work, and we enter the estimates into this field (instead of the duration field). The duration defaults to "1day?" and when we assign a work resource and (it sees their calander is an 8 hour day) the duration increases as it should. eg a 36 hour task would say "1day?" then when we assign bob it increases to "4.5days?". This is okay (although if there is a way for it to automatically presume 4.5 that would be good). Moving on, as each day passes we need to enter the times everyone worked into the Task Usage view. At first, I tried showing the Actual Work field and adding the time into this. This worked good for reducing the duration, but could not work out the overtime. So in my example, bob would do 10 hours actual on day 1 and day 5 would reduce to 2 hours. I then (using a new test project) tried using the Actual Overtime Work field as well to get the overtime cost to calculate. I would put 8 hours in Act. Work and then 2 hours in Act. Overtime Work. This would then update Act. Work to 10 hours and reduce day 5 to 2 hours. The overtime cost would also be calculated. This is all good, however if I tried changing the 2 hours overtime to 1 hour, the Work field on the next 4 days would change to 8.3, 8.3, 8.3, 2.08. My Work for this task is still 36hours, but why is it saying to do part hours on the other days instead of saying 8, 8, 8, 3? I also tried (in another new test) to use the Regular Work field, as after some googling I discovered Actual Work = Regular Work + Overtime Work. However, this has the problem. I also noticed that on the 2nd to 4th days (5th similar with different values), the Regular Work would say 8 whilst the Work would be 8.3. If i changed the Work to 8, Regular Work would drop to 7.7), and the task Work would drop to 35.7. Anyone care to shed some light? I'm thinking this might be something to do with the resource max units % thing (which I have not touched). Also, this does not happen if you increase the overtime. Shaun.     - Assign resources for shortened duration I'm new to Project and have a basic question. I have two crews available for a series of 8 tasks. I assigned Crew 1 to 4 tasks and Crew 2 to the other 4 tasks. Here's the question: Crew 1 finishes the 4 tasks several days earlier than Crew 2. I'd like Crew 1 to help Crew 2 on the last task after Crew 1 is finished. BUT, when I assign both crews to that last task it overallocates Crew 1 and doesn't change the duration. I tried to apply leveling and it makes the duration longer. How can I let it know that I want Crew 1 to help Crew 2 on that last task?     - Resource Breakdown Structure unmodifiable i am trying to implement a RBS in my section and project is not displaying the options for me to add one. when i select the "customize enterprise fields" window and choose the "custom outline codes" tab the "define code mask" and "define lookup table" buttons are not available. the two buttons are labeled "VIEW..." with no capability to change anything. i have looked at the "customize fields" option and it shows both as definable. we are using project 2003 with server 2003. is there a permission selection somewhere else in project that i am missing?     - Work based scheduling instead of duration based scheduling. I work for a company that provides engineering services to multiple clients which is billed at an hourly rate to our clients. We have recently purchased the MSP 2003 software to provide scheduling management of our multiple projects based on hours (work) available from our four resources. Our intent is to schedule our projects based on a fixed length of time for example one week. Our four resources are available for 45 hours each per week which totals 180 hours. (work) What advice can be shared for the set up of our project tasks that will allow me to enter the start and finish dates for one week? Then assign our four resources (work) to the task for that week? Then if I shorten or lengthen the finish date of the task the percentage of our four resources will adjust automatically increasing or decreasing based on the work I assigned originally? Basically I want to schedule based on (work) hours of the four resources not by duration hours. In fact the duration based column and functionality does not work with our work flow. We know that we have 180 hours per week to schedule and if a task requires more resources then we can assign our resources accordingly.     - Use custom durations 1-10 with deadline to see start dates on gant I work with a series of task on every project we do. I have a deadline stored for each project and can derive a duration for each task. I need to chart these task since each is a predecessor to the previous task so I can arrive at a start date for the project. Seems like it would be easy enough to define custom duration days 1-10 then back up from deadline to have a start date on the first task, but I have been unable to get custom fields to work anything like regular duration, start and finish.     - Analyze Timescaled Data in Excel % complete problem Whenever I have used the Analyze Timescaled Data I have never had a problem with it. But recently someone asked why the wizard does not seem to work with either the Cumulative % Complete or Percentage Complete fields. So I went to an old project, put in actual values and ran the wizard. Stated that I wanted the Percentage Complete field, not the Work field, told it for the entire project and told it to graph. The result - the graph is on 0% and in the sheet with the data, the Total Percentage Complete contains 0. Now when I did the same report but with the Work field it worked and I noticed in the Total field that it uses the Sumif calculation, yet when I used the Percentage Complete field it used no calculation and just had 0%. Anyone else experienced the same problem, or if you try it what happens for you? Note I am using Project 2003 SP 3, and have tried it on Project 2003 SP 2.     - "Record a Macro" Inconsistent Results I've run into a problem that I believe may be a Project 2007 Pro bug. I wanted to do a simple repeatative copy and paste using the "record a macro" function. It turns out the macro will run once correctly, when I run it again it enters zeros in the next row. I made sure to be very careful during the recording process not to make any errant clicks etc. I am wondering if my "absolute" and "relative" settings are correct.     - Task Hello all, I'm fairly new to project and am ammending a project already created by someone else, my specific problem is that i don't want some of my tasks to be split over the none working part of the day. Basically all my task are between 15mins and 4hours each and my working days are 8hours long.     - Group by outline code levels doesn't work I have created an outline code with 2 levels. Level 1 contains of 3 different categories of work, and under level 2 there is a number of detailed categories (3-5 in each). I now want to group my MS project plan under my 3 level 1 outline codes (forecast, project and other is the names of them). However the MS project plan shows a few lines under project, then a few lines under other, and then some more categorized as project. - I would expect the MS project plan to list ALL relevant tasks under each of the 3 individual outline code levels, and not in smaller groups.     - tasks shift after filter or upon reopening file I'm just beginning to learn Project without the benefit of a class or mentor, so please bear with me. I'm not even convinced Project is a good option for what we do, but I wasn't given much choice, so I'm doing the best I can. When I open Project, it re-sorts my tasks. There are, say, 4 tasks under a parent task, and they are in chronological order. But when I mark one or more tasks as completed, the next time I open Project it places them at the bottom of those 4 tasks. How can I tell Project to stop moving these to the bottom of the list? It's important that they remain in the same order I placed them, regardless of completion percent. Also, numerous times each day I will add one or more new rows of tasks at varying levels, placed according to related jobs. When I reopen - or after running a filter or sort - tasks end up nested within other tasks, so they often are no longer associated with their parent tasks. And many times, it will not let me indent or outdent to the proper level - when I try to shift the rows, it puts them somewhere else completely unrelated and I cannot find them, or it will force them into the middle of another group of tasks, disassociating the now-interrupted tasks yet keeping the new tasks together with their parent. I must hit Undo (I can't believe Project only allows one level of Undo!) and just live with tasks being at the wrong level. This is driving me absolutely CRAZY! Since our final deadlines (most of the time) cannot shift, it requires manual rescheduling when an internal deadline is missed; therefore, the predecessor/date functionality had to be turned off.     - Multiple resourced tasks run shorter with fewer resources I am using multiple resources as a pool carry out several tasks - with the intention that whoever is available can be allocated. I've run into problems as it seems that P2007 needs to use all the resources allocated before it can schedule the end of a task. If I set up a task as effort driven and allocate, say 7 resources, Project will allocate resources as they are available - and if not available, will leave the resource on the task at 0 hours. It seems that Project is waiting for this resource to be available (for 0 hours) before it can schedule the end of the task. To illustrate this behaviour, set up a multi task project (I used 12) and allocate the same resources to all ( say 7), same work for each task (say 56 hours). Note the finish date. Now allocate non working time to one resource (say a week). The tasks will increase in duration, and the finish date will move out because of the holiday - fair enough. Now delete the resource with the holiday. The overall project finish date gets earlier.... So with less resource availablity, the project duration is shorter! While that is an interesting exercise, I'd really like an answer to my problem, which is how to get maximum resource on a task from a pool of resources, none of whom are critical to completion of the task.     - problems with start-to-start link Hi, I am trying to force two tasks to start on the same date using the start-to-start link. I have one group of tasks that is centered around a fixed date, and another group of tasks that has relationships amongst themselves but otherwise is not constrained. I am trying to force a task from each of these groups to start on the same date using a start-to-start link - the link is created with no errors, but the tasks don't line up (as if there were a lag between them, but there's not) Does anyone have any advice?     - Flexible duration task Hi, I'm new to Project (2003) and still trying to learn how to set up links and constraints to make my project flexible and automatically react to changes in start dates, milestones, etc. I have several tasks that are supposed to begin after a specific date (I used a finish-to-start link to tie them to this milestone) and continue up until a milestone that marks the completion of the project The project has an undefined completion date - maybe 6 months from the start, maybe 24 months, it will change. I can use a start-to-finish link to cause the tasks to run up until the "finish" milestone, but the duration of these tasks doesn't seem to respond to changes in the project duration. For instance, if I change the time between start and finish milestones from 6 to 24 months, nothing happens to the duration of these tasks. AFAIK, Project comes in various languages, it's not an option you can
set to another language.

Hi Steve, It would appear from the link below that the Microsoft Office 2007
Italian version also supports English (and French and German) - so you
should be able to choose the language settings you want under Start,
Microsoft Office, Microsoft Office Tools, Microsoft Office 2007 Language
Settings
