    - Programmatically Changing Hours Worked Fields in Project 2003 I am using Project 2003 Pro and attempting to populate the hours worked fields from a CSV or XLS. I cannot seem to find anything in the object model or in any code samples that will let me change the hours for individual days. Here are the specifics: I have an XLS or CSV with employee hours and projects they are working on. Some of the projects are tracked in MS Project. Rather than manually keying in everyone's hours worked for a two week period, I would like to parse out the file and populate the hours for the pertinent dates using an app. So, how do I get access to these fields in code?     - Deadlines - rollup to summary level We use Deadlines on our tasks. In our experience, we've seen that the Deadline date does not roll up to the summary task level.     - MS Project 2000 I am a new user to MS Project 2000. In one of my project, I encountered the following cases: 1) one task was done with zero cost. 2) Task started earlier than scheduled. in EV reports MSP 2000 ignored the my actual cost entry (zero)for the task in case (1)and showed the baseline budget of this task and in case (2) ignored the actual cost to-date I entred for the task started earlier.     - Tasks that occur concurrently- Microsoft Project I am attempting to create a schedule where various tasks (some with different durations, some with the same) need to occur concurrently. It isnt a matter of starting on the same date or finishing together only, they are flexible as long as they occur during the same time. Ex. Task A requires 30 days. During that 30 days Task B must occur requireing only 10 days. Task B does not need to start when task A starts nor finish on the same day as task A, it simply must occur DURING the 30 days.     - Error with Workgroup Mail One of my users messed around with Project 2003 Pro trying to get the assigned tasks tracked on Outlook. It was discovered that this can only be done with Project server or by using Workgroup mail. I've installed the WG mail with the appropriate config and the email is sent to the user requesting the updates, HOWEVER, when the user attempts to reply, an error pops-up: "An error occurred during initialization. An error ocurred while saving the file. The data was not saved." On the windows taskbar, Project Server Spooler is running, but we are not using Project server. I've closed the spooler and the problem remains the same. I have tried to delete the Project server account on the local machine however there Delete button is grayed out even when I select work offline at start-up. I have already tried uninstalling the application but the problem persists, I have tried rolling back the system but the problem still continues.     - which predecessor determines start date? When you are tracing through a schedule, is there an easy way to find out which predecessor drives the start date of the task you are on? I constantly find myself looking at a task which is not on the critical path, and which has lots of predecessors, wondering which one is driving the start date. What I do now is go to each of those predecessors and compare finish dates to my task's start date. But there must be an easier way.     - Problem running macro in Project I really need to export a Project plan's tasks to Excel so I can distribute the information to team members that don't have Project. I would really like to link the information in Project to the Excel spreadsheet so I don't have to update both. I've tried doing Copy/Paste link as a Project object which is just a picture that doesn't show everything and is uneditible. I've also tried Copy/Paste link as Excel format which doesn't have any of the formatting seen in Project and is very hard to read because all of the hierarchies are gone. I've followed the directions for Jack's macro 'Export hierarchy to Excel' and copied the code into a new VBA module within Project. When I try to run the macro I get the message "Compile Error: User-defined type not defined" and the 2nd line of code 'Dim xlrow As Excel.Range' is highlighted.     - Tasks Calculated on Other Tasks Hi: Is it possible in MS Project to have a task calculate it's percent complete based on a series of other tasks being completed? The "hitch" is that it is not a summary task. For example, I have 3 gropus of tasks, A, B an C. They are different parts of the project plan. I want a section at the end of the plan to show the % Complete for each of the groups of task and then use a summary task to tell me how combined total % complete.     - Getting Users to USE MS Project We've had MS Project and Project server installed and available for use for a number of years (currently running MS Project 2003 w/ Project Server), the problem I'm having is getting users to USE it. Every year or so management comes to us (IT) searching for a better way to manage their projects. I've helped them along creating a few Gantt charts, explained how to setup Enterprise Resources and how to coordinate with other Project Users. I've done 1 on 1 training, group training, and I've even bought handfuls of books (Project 2003 Step by Step) which I hand out to users who I think could benefit from them. Well there must be something wrong with the way I'm training them, because they use the tools for a month (sometimes two) before their Project use peters out again, usually with the excuse "there's not enough time". That time of the year has come around again and I'm getting ready (yet again) to point our Management users to the capabilities and benefits of using MS Project to manage their projects. How to get them to continue to use it and integrate usage into their daily schedule is the issue. How do you motivate users to use the tools MS Project provides? Any tips appreciated. Thanks.     - Filter macro Hello... ive got a small problem with filtering. Ive got a macro that filters the predecessors or successors of a task. It sets the value from Flag7 to 'YES" and that automaticly filters it out. It works perfect but there is only one small thing that i cant get fixed. I want to see the task that i select to filter as well. Example: when i select row 5 that has predecessors in row 10,13,29,45 it show the rows 10,13,29,45 after filtering. I want to create the macro that it shows row 5 as well.     - How to make main task 100% completed Client has a Project plan. There is a main task with some subtasks. All the subtasks are marked 100% completed but the main task only shows 85%.     - Q. When is a default, not a default? A. When it's a default! A riddle worthy of a Hobbit I'm sure. But seriously, I think I've worked out how something works and I want to test if my understanding is correct. First of all a statement: "The default working time in Project is 08:00 to 17:00." That's it, you can't change it. That is always what Project believes the absolute default working time to be. If you go into Tools->Change Working Time... and alter the settings for the "Standard (Project Calendar)" (e.g to 09:00 to 17:00) by drag or shift marking M, T, W, Th, F, then this is now an edited, non-default working time. The default working time is still 08:00 to 17:00. If you now add a resource whose Working time is set to "Use default", it will not use the Project default of 08:00 to 17:00 but will instead inherit the working time from its base calendar (in this case the Standard (Project calendar). All the week days on its calendar picture will show as edited working hours. So "Use default" working time for a resource means use the working times in the associated base calendar. Whereas, "Use default" working time in a base calendar means use Project's non-changeable default of 08:00 to 17:00. Then of course we have Tools->Options...->Calendar where we have a "Default start time" and "Default end time" and a "Set as Default" button. These defaults have no connection whatsoever with either Project's default working time of 08:00 to 17:00, on which the "Use default" for a base calendar is based, or the "Use default" for a resource calendar.     - Sharing Resources with Master Hi, I have 30 sub-projects inserted in Master project, MSP98. Everythin working fine except resource sharing. Need expert advice. The resources are shared in Master and not in different pool file. I means that my master & pool is the same file. The problem I face is that all my sub-projects have variations i standard calendar. In some sub-projects all Saturdays are changed t working, in some both Saturdays & Sundays are changed to working & i some few Saturdays are changed to working & in the rest of th sub-projects Saturdays/ Sundays are not working (standard). Individual sub-projects when opened, the schedules look as planned a per the changed calendars, but in Master, the calendar is discarded standard (Sat / Sundays not working) calendar is applied to al sub-projects & hence the sub-project finish dates are pushed. What I am doing wrong ? Is their a solution , alternate method ?     - MS Project server 2003 access from untrusted domain Good day! Can anyone help with subj.? I've recently installed MS Project Server 2003 for our company. Local Domain users work just fine, but I've problem with users of untrusted domain. They can not use Project Web Access or MS Project Pro, browser requests for authorization, authorization fails because user is not trusted.     - Rolled up milestones I'm setting up a master project that has multiple sub-projects inside of it. I'm rolling up major milestones to summary bars. I have also added a progress bar style to the summary bar and the project summary bar. Everything looks good in a rolled up form and it has allowed me to show the project status in various levels of detail (depending on the audience). One if the things that would really help me out is if I could paint the picture of how the different milestones are linked across sub-projects while in this low detail view (single summary line per sub-project).     - Keeps asking for username and password I have Project server 2003 installed. Whenever I go to manage users and goups and the such in the admin panel it pops up with a windows username and password box. I have told IIS to use anonymous auth but it wont stop asking. This is restricting my ability to put the PWA out in the DMZ as I would have to put a user account for each admin on that server. Any help on how to get this to stop doing this?     - project current date field and moving of completed parts Hi all, I'm using option move of completed parts after status date back to status date. Project uses current date as status date. However by default current date is current date 8:00am this cause the completed parts of tasks move before current date 8:00am what practically means it is moved to yesterday(default start time is 9:00am). I need to have current date set to current date 17:00am so that completed parts are moved to current day before 17:00. If I set manually the current date to the current date 17:00, it works ok, but when I open project next day, the current date is set again to 8:00am.     - Custom Number Field Decimal Places for Calculations Using the Custom Number Field (Number1) in the Resouce View. We use this field as a multiplier together with some other fields. However, Project rounds this off to 2 decimal places which is producing roundoff error for me. For example, if I want to multiply by 1.125 (1 + 1/8) then Project uses a value of 1.13.     - Sync To Actuals Hi: Our project managers update there schedule "Remaining Work", "Actual Time" in project; this is overriden once they say yes (by mistake) to Sync to actuals pop up windows.     - Save Project to Enterprise Posted this on the Project Server Group... but there hasn't been any questions answered since early this morning so I am trying here.... I created a new project plan, and I am trying to publish it to Project Server 2003. I get the following: ___________________________________________________________________________= =AD______ A window that says "Save Project to Enterprise" This project contains task with error such as missing or invalid required code values, or invalid task calendars. Changes to the project cannot be saved until all errors have been corrected. Then I get 4 columns 1 -Error - which says "Invalid Custom Field Value" 2 -Task Name - Name of my task 3 - Base Calendar - None 4 - Buyoff 5 - Enterprise Text7 - Invalid Custom Field Value and wants me to select a value from my drop down list Correct Errors by selecting valid task calendars or valid outline codes values for all task and click ok to save the project. ___________________________________________________________________________= =AD_____ When I created my Project Server Enterprise Global Template, I imported customize fields. I have gone into both the Global template for Project and for Project Server and the field I created is there, it contains the values in the drop down list I created for that field. What I don't understand is why do I need to file this field in to save my project to Project Server 2003?     - I want to ignore resource availability I have a project where I want to assign generic resources for reference only. I DO NOT WANT TO Resource Load the project. I am having two problems: 1. Project seems insistent on resource-constraining my tasks. I don't care what resources are assigned, I want my duration to control. 2. When I change calendars for a specific sequence, MSP gets all balled up in the resource calendar(s). I want a few sequences to be 7/24, and others to be 5/8. 7/24 ignores holidays and weekends, while 5/8 respects them. I can't seem to accomplish this objective.     - Read Only Recommended Flag gets reset when word document is opened We we hyperlink a word document that has the "Read Only Recommended" flag set to true using Microsoft Project, we do not get the prompt that asks the user if they want to open the document as read only or not? Also after opening the document using the hyperlink in Project, if the user saves the word document, the flag gets reset. This looks like a bug in office products.     - Why few of my tasks were pushed too far during levelling Hi there, I did not use resource levelling so much, since I could not predict the delay. I have some tasks linked together into a branch (a feature), and I have many branches within a tree (a products). And I have some trees like that. A resource can be responsible for a whole branch. And one resource can take some branches across different trees. I dont have links between branches, and between tree. The dependencies set inside the branch only. But within each branch there are some fixed milestones that I used to set as dependencies, where the tasks in that branch could not start earlier than that. When I use levelling to resolve overallocated of the resources, I saw that some of the tasks inside a branch suddenly push to a very far starting time (say in year 2020!) then come back to start on 2006 for the next task which linked to it . For ex of a branch: Task 1.1: Material availability : 0 day, start at day A (eg. 10/20/2006) Task 1.2: Task AAA: 2 days, linked to Task 1.1 (asap) Task 1.3: Task BBB: 2 days, linked to Task 1.2 (asap) Task 1.4: Task CCC: 1 days linked to Task 1.3 (asap) ... After levelling, for some branches, Task 1.2 can be pushed to (11/01/2020) ! then Task 1.3 come back to 10/26/2006 I had to remove the predecessor from Task 1.2, then retype the same predecessor back, then the date will be back to normal again.     - Mark a task 100% complete Hi! I fielded the following question from a PM today: "Is there a setting to drive down "Work" rather than driving up "Actual Work" when marking a task 100% complete?" This PM would rather have Project keep the actual work entered and drive remaining work to zero when he uses the Tracking toolbar, rather than open each task and set remaining work to zero manually. I suppose I don't blame him. However I found the following from the help files which suggests that driving remaining work to zero is not possible: >From the help topic: Update the percentage of work complete "When you specify the percentage of work complete for a task, Microsoft Office Project 2003 calculates the actual work (actual work: The amount of work that has been performed on a task or assignment. When you enter actual work on a task, the remaining work is calculated using this formula: Remaining Work = Work - Actual Work. I have a resource that has his available time set to weekdays from 10am to
12pm, using our company's base calendar. I'm trying to change him back to
having 8 hours per day, 8am-12pm, 1pm-5pm, but I can't seem to find a way
without going day by day and making the change. I feel like I'm missing
something, that it should be easy enough to just "reset" his calendar 8 hours
a day.

Two options do accomplish this:
- Create a new base calendar (8am-12pm, 1pm-5pm) and apply this base
calendar as the new base calendar for the resource
- In the resource calendar, select the day headers (not individual days)
and change his working hours. You can do this by entering 8am-12pm,
1pm-5pm, or by simply clicking 'use default'.
