    - Change to MS Project needed I created a large project, I needed to change an end date. My start date needs to stay where it is. I get a selection box that says I have choices to make, remove the must start on constraint or cancle the operation etc. If I select help the help button the box that pops up is for a constarined finsih date. The program help is crosswired. I need to be able to change the end dates as the project changes, if we are behind schedule I need to be able to show it. I need to turn off this garbage crosswired auto calculate move the dates around feature. My baseline will show the original dates.     - Struggling to get Project Data into Excel using OLE DB I have created a data source (an ODC File) using the wizards in Excel with Project OLEDB. The Test connection button works and when I open the file in Internet Explorer, Office Web Components allows me to create a PivotTable of the data.     - Custom Toolbars, Global.mpt and the Global Enterprise Template Problem: Custom Toolbar reappears after deleting using organizer. Background: We have two Project Server environments, Test and Production. I developed a macro for a custom toolbar and made it part of global.mpt, my local global template. When ready to test and deploy in the Test environment, I copied it to the TEST Global Enterprise Template (GET) using the organizer as described here and elsewhere. I later deleted the custom toolbar and macros from the TEST GET, but it reappeared when I re-opened Project Pro. I deleted the custom toolbar again using the organizer, but it would reappear in the next session. I opened Project Pro in local mode (offline), deleted the toolbar again and it was gone for all subsequent sessions. Good! It was gone from TEST environment, too! However â?? argghhh! -- it reappeared when connecting to the PROD Project Server environment. It was never copied into the PROD GET. It does not appear in either TEST GET nor PROD GET organizer, nor in the global.mpt when in local mode. Is there a cache copy to delete somewhere? Does Project Pro combine the global.mpt and the GET into a cache that is subsequently loaded into Project Pro? BTW, a co-worker can not permanently delete the custom toolbar at all except when in local mode.     - Graphical indicators for project progress I have programmed an MPP file with lots of formulae to graphically indicate tasks/ milestones not invoked, on schedule, delayed and completed. This is working fine BUT only for tasks/milestones that are at the lowest level in trees. Does NOT work for next or higher level tasks. I did a check by creating a new fiels (Text1) with formula =[% Complete]. The value (0, 1,...100) is shown in Text1 only for lowest level tasks.     - Viewing tasks by start date Hi I am a newbie to MS Project and am trying to view all the tasks in the project in date order. My project has quite a detailed level of outlining as it has been separated into many phases that run concurrently. I want to be able to sort the plan by start date while ignoring the outlining and cannot seem to be able to do so. When I sort by the start date using the sort function it will only sort the dates of subtasks and will not allow me to sort all tasks. Is there a way to view the plan so that as you scroll down you can see every task that will be happening at that time in all of the phases rather then having to look at each phase individually?     - How to find start and end of task splits? We have a common situation where we need to calculate productivity using the calendar hours worked on a task to status date. The tasks have multiple resources, both persons and equipment of type 'work', and are set to fixed duration and effort driven. This would work easily if they were Fixed Work, but although resources can be changed, the duration is set by the equipment production rate (a drill rig). Microsoft Project Server is storing a start and end time for splits, becasue it uses them to display the Gant bars as split. How can I extract the start and end of a split within a task?? And what about multiple splits? - Have used Actual Duration - it only works correctly in Fixed Work tasks. - Have checked Stop and Resume fields - they work to form the next split, not store a past one. - My next plan is to enter the SQL Server database and start snuffling around for fields to call in a VBA macro.     - Leveling inconsistancy I'm working on project server 03 and set up a series of tasks assigned to one resource. All the tasks currently start on the same day. The resource is set to 90%. I'm trying to use leveling to move the tasks out based on the resource having 90% of his day available for the task. There are no priorites set on the tasks.     - How to get Resource Hours Cost Hi, I need actual work and actual cost of a resource in a project for a particular task. I am getting actual cost from time sheet data in table "Msp_View_Proj_Assn_tp_by_day" of Project Server 2003 database. The problem is when I update the standard rate of a resource using Microsoft Office Project 2003 and republish the project information; cost information against tasks is updated using recent standard rate, as it does preserve the cost/resource rate history. For example if standard rate of Steve Masters is $70/hr and he works 8 hours on a particular task then I get the cost $560.00. When i update the standard rate to $80/hr and republish the project then i get the cost $640.00 for the same task. However the previous data should not be updated after revising the standard rate. Basically, I have 35 subprojects created and saved separately. Then, I created a master project file that has 35 subprojects inserted. Each subproject represents a development of a house plan which shows work flow of architectural, estimating, bidding, and cost control departments. Duration of each subproject is 65 days. The start dates of each inserted subproject are two weeks apart. The layout of this master project is shown below: 2006 Projects -- 262 days --- Start (Fri 2/17/06) ---- Finish (2/27/07) as a master project Pembroke-----65 days --- Start (Fri 2/17/06) --- Finish (5/18/06) as inserted subproject #1 - Activities of Architectural Dept. - Activities of Purchasing Dept. - Activities of Estimating Dept. - Activities of Cost Control Dept. However, I have to keep repeating this process to all of the subprojects below, one at a time. After updating desired information, I click okay to â??save to allâ?? and close. It gets more interesting when I reopen the file and click expand to view subproject just like I explained above, same issue would come up again. The thing is after things get messed up I cannot just ignore it. I have to keep working it until everything looks right before I save and close. Or, I have to close without saving anything. This subsequent option is not realistic since I have to save all updates to the file. This has been frustrated to me and the management team because they feel the information keep changing from the time it was last saved. I think I have been quite thorough with the situation.     - Calendar View in Project I've been dealing too hard to get synchronized my Outlook Calendar and my project file. I realized that If I had a good Calendar view in my project (such as that one that i had in Outlook Calendar) I would be able to allocated my tasks better according with my other appointments. Does anybody know an add-in, or software that I could use to see the project tasks in a project calendar that looks like the Outlook Calendar, in which I could take a task and allocate time (in someday at sometime) to perform that task ?     - Project 2007 saving corrupt mpps?? I am testing the Project 2007 beta, and worked on a project over the weekend. It is not very elaborate; when I saved it on Friday, it stood at 600k. I tried to reopen the file today, and I get an error that the file is not a project file, but Project gives me the choice to open it as text only. Nothing has changed since I was using it on Friday, and I'm baffled why Project wouldn't open the file it had saved. I have a schedule with custom fields. I enter a start date into Start1. I
then calculate the duration1 field based on info in two other fields, (units
per day / # of days) and calculate Finish1. My Gantt bars are set up to
display these fields and it works fine. What I cannot do is right click on
the task bar to split the task. It appears to work as I try to drag the split
to where I want it but when I try and drop the split where I want it nothing
happens. Is it because I am calculating these fields?

Hi,

Splitting the task will mobve finish but not the calculated fields.
They are CUSTOM fields meaning that they are yours and Project doesn't
calculate them.
