Avoiding double updates in Project

We have 2 versions of the same project. One downsized for submission to the
prime of our contract. Currently, I am responsible for making dual updates
on both of the of the project schedules. My question? Can I link the two
project filesâ?¦so that if I make a change to one date the other automatically
updates. Is there any better/easier way to do this?

We are not using the Project server, we are using stand along MS Project
application.

Hello OD,

Does your "prime" really need a full-blown project file? Is he/she
really updating information or would a pdf of the project file,
downsized as needed suffice?

There is not a reliable way to link two separate copies of the same
project file together so that updates to one will update another.
Project does have the ability to copy/paste link data, but that is
unstable and likely to corrupt the files in time.

I suggest either creating a pdf of the file, or (assuming you are using
Project 2003 or earlier) saving the file as a web page. Use the Copy
picture button to create a GIF file of the Gantt chart, and embed that
on the web page created by the export wizard.

You don't state what the cut down version contains. However, if it is
cut down, can't you record a macro of the cutting down process and then
run that after you have updated your main copy?

Also, as Julie points out, it is probably worth exploring exactly what
it is that your client needs as their needs may be simple.

I once faced similar problems and corrupted my pdf file. But I finally
tried a utility called Advanced PDF Repair to repair my PDF file. It
works rather well. Its web address is http://www.datanumen.com/apdfr/
