how do i save a presentation in simple ppt. I am trying to turn in an
assignment via email and I am pptx now and the instructor cannot open it and
told me to do it in simple ppt? Does this mean I also have to redo the
project, or just save it in a different way?

No, just open your existing presentation and use the Save As command and
select PowerPoint 2003.

This will save the file as a simple PPT file, but may have some minor
changes. Some text with effects become graphics, some other minor change,
but the whole thing should display for your professor.

In addition to what Bill said (which is what you need to do, for sure), you
might let your prof know there's a compatibility pack he/she can install so
he can open Office 2007-format files. I'm sure he receives them from other
students on occasion as well. Here's a link to it:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=941B3470-3AE9-4AEE-8F43-C6BB74CD1466&displaylang=en

Note: you don't need to install this compat pack. You just need to save your
file as the 97-2003 format in Save As (as Bill explained).

In addition to what Bill's and Echo's said:
I would retained my original file because my PC can display properly.
I'll use Save As only to save *another files* for my Prof uses. How?
Just put a No. after my file name; example: rino_project2.ppt

When my Prof installed as what Echo's suggested then I'll send my
original file (without #2.ppt) or my Prof is happy viewing my original
file he/she already got.

Take care Laci and I know you can do it!

Hi Bill. I've been trying for three days to do exactly what you suggest
below. I thought it would be a "no brainer." Have a new PC running Vista at
home; running XP at the office. I designed a PPT presentation for one of our
loan originators at home, but now need to print it out here at the office as
a handout.

Actually, it doesn't matter how I want to use it. My point is that when I
open my *.pptx doc, go to Save As, name it *.ppt, it hesitates as if it's
going to work, and then a box comes up that says, "press OK to cancel
printing" or something like that. I'm at work now so forget the exact
dialogue.

I can print one at home and bring in here to copy, but the quality isn't as
good. I read the other message re a D/L that's available, and I will try
that. However, I'd still like to know why that feature isn't working on my
PC. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

When you are using PPT 2007 and Save as 97-2003 format, you'll often see a
dialog that says "Press Esc to cancel." That is telling you to press escape
to cancel converting to / saving as the 97-2003 format. It can take a few
minutes to save as 97-2003 format, so if you're patient, does it finally
save?

But what Michael suggests might be easiest. Just save the file as a
2007-format, PPTX file and then at work, install the compatibility pack so
that PPT 2003 can open PPTX files.

Saving from 2007 version at home. I'll check on that compatability package
when I get to work tomorrow.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.
