Video in PPT flashes for a moment before playing...
Hello,
I have two videos in a powerpoint (2007) presentation, and when the slide
advances, the first frame of the video shows, then disappears for a second,
and then the video resumes. It does not do this when played outside of
Powerpoint. I've moved a copy of the PPT along with the two WMV files and
shortened the names to minimize the length of the file path. This helped a
bit, but is there anything else i should try? Thanks in advance!

How to resize individual elements within a chart template
I need to be able to alter slightly an individual element within the standard
chart template - the size of the "assistant" box.
I have applies the template to a slide and right-clicked the box that I want
to add an assistant box under. I then right-clicked the assistant box and
choose "Format Auto Shape". However, under "Format Auto Shape" all re-size
options are greyed out.

PowerPoint goes back to slide 1 during presentation
When in presentation mode, the slides went back to slide 1 all by itself - no
one was touching ANYTHING. I am using PPT 2003. I imported "slides from file"
into my document from our speakers document. This is the only thing I can
think that would have caused this glitch. It happened several times.

WMA sound files
I am using the latest Pwr Pnt and want to include some .wma sound files.
According to what I read on the "Help" that format is suported by PWR PNT.
These songs play just fine on my Windows Media Player. According to what I
read on "help" I may need a different codex. I only know what I read so any

"Color Typewriter" animation slower in '07 than '03
My company has rolled-out an Office '07 pilot, and I've noticed a
drastic decrease in visual performance when viewing animated slides
I've created in the '03 version of PPT. Specifically, the color
typewriter effect performs more sluggishly.
I've read the thread regarding "print drivers" as the fix, but I'm
still curious as to why there is a difference in performance between
the two versions when the environment (my desktop configuration, the
network...) has not changed. Is PPT using a different method for
rendering animations? Have the recommended system requirements been
radically changed?

Custom Animation
I use Office 2003. When I try to animate (Custom Animation), I can
set it up but the animation doesn't work. That is - the Custom
Animation menu opens up, I can see that Group 1 should appear with the
first mouseclick, Group 2 with the second etc. but when I go into the
Slideshow, everything appears at once.
I did add the option that would allow me to open Office 2007 documents
a few weeks ago, could this cause any problem?

Powerpoint 2003:Missing Images
I have created 4 Chapters of Photo and Sound Images (460 Images in Each
Chapter) using Powerpoint 2003. The problem I have is, when using Powerpoint
2003 to view the Presentations, about every 5th to 12th Image is missing on
screen. Since this problem presented itself in Powerpoint, I also notice that
Emailed PPSs miss some Images. This problem does not happen if I use
Microsoft Powerpoint 2003 Viewer to view files outside of Powerpoint 2003
itself. I have also determined that the problem does not present itself when
the same Presentation Files are run on other PCs or Laptops. In an effort to
identify the cause of this problem I have tested with Graphics Accelleration
both on and off and various settings for Accelleration. No improvement. I
have changed out and increased DDR400 Memory to max of 4 Gb, I have performed
a Windows Repair Install and Un-Installed Graphics Card Driver and Installed
current version Driver 93.71, all to no avail, missing Images still persist.
My PC specs: MB = Gigabyte GA-81PE775 Pro, CPU = Intel P4 3.0GHz, RAM = 4Gb
DDR 400, Video = GeForce MX 4000 93.71 Driver, HDD = SATA 500Gb, OS = XP Pro
SP2 + Updates, Application = Office 2003 SP3 + Updates, AVG AntiVirus and AVG
AntiSpyWare.
Can anyone Please advise if my Hardware can be contributing to this problem
in any way or any other pertinent information that may assist in resolving

MCI error - mp3s randomly stop working; reinstalled WMP11 but noth
Would love some help here.
I have PPT 2003 and XP sp2. Using this set-up I have created many ppt presos
with media in them and they have all worked fine. Up until now that is.
Now I am getting this MCI error ("The specified file cannot be played on the
specified MCI device. blah blah.."). The offending media in question is an mp3
I have run mplayer2.exe (WMP6?) and mp3s will not work there either, the
error being "The source filter for this file could not be loaded.
(Error=80040241)".
The same mp3s work fine though in every other application I've tried (WMP11,
Winamp, RM). So does this mean the problem is not the codecs?
I've tried uninstalling and re-installing WMP11 I don't know how many times.
I have also uninstalled pretty much every program I can think of that could
potentially be causing a codec clash, including:
- Winamp
- Real Player
- Samsung PC Studio
+ any other programs I saw which had anything to do with multimedia (exlc.
VLC and PowerDVD)
I have never downloaded and installed a codec pack, rogue or otherwise. To
be honest until today I didn't even know what a codec was.
The number of character in the file path is well less than 100 too.
I would be most grateful for any advice as honestly I am at my wits end. I
just don't understand how it could all work fine one day and now it doesn't.

PPT2003: Export of "attached" forms, files...
Dear all,
I am developing a PPT (2003) AddIn which contains quite a lot of files
(forms, classes, modules...) meanwhile. For backup and repository
purposes I usually export all of these files. Something I am looking for
is automising this export. For now I have to click on each file, select
"export", select the folder and save. This can be quite annoying for a
lot of files (which I have).
Is there an easier way - like a script or alike that automises this process?

Organizing a "Library" of Slides
Is there a way of organizing a collection or library of slides taken from a
number of different presentations so they can be reused in future
presentations? I've seen ads for a program called SlideWhere.
Is this program helpful? Are there other programs that are better? Is
there a way to do this just using Powerpoint alone (I'm using PPT97 and
PPT2003)?

changing where a task pane is displayed on the monitor screen
I have Powerpoint 2003. I've been working right along on programs OK and
when I click on "custom animation", the task pane has been displaying on the
far right side of my monitor screen. Now all of a sudden the task pane (and
other ppt task panes) display across the entire top of the monitor screen. I
can't figure out what I did to change how task panes display and I have been
unable to change it back so that the task panes display along the far right

slide transitions w/ custom animation
I have a ppt presentation w/ custom animation set for five-second
intervals automatically. However, after the last graphic or text box
appears, the slide transitions nearly instantaneously to the next
slide. I have the slide transitions set for five seconds throughout the
entire presentation. Is there an easy way to slow down the transition or
do I need to go back and reset each slide transition one at a time?

Keyboard activation in Presentation mode
Is it possible without vba to have an action button behave as a keyboard
keystroke? For example, I create an "A" key; in presentation mode someone
clicks the key and it prints out an "A". Will I need to use activex buttons
instead? I thought about pure trigger animation and building the characters
myself through custom animation but that seemed too tedious... I also want to
build a working ppt or pptx calculator in the same fashion but have come

Motion Path Accuracy
I'm just starting to use motion paths to develop some animations, and I'm
having trouble making them accurate enough to keep my objects aligned. For
example, say I have a group of four boxes (upper left, upper right, lower
left, lower right) that form a grid. I want to show those boxes moving
around to show a particular reordering of data that I'm illustrating, but
when the boxes come to their final resting places in the same grid, they are
not well lined up because the motion paths don't seem to "snap" to where I'm
wanting the boxes to move (meaning, the end points of the paths are not in
the right place).
Are there tricks to making accurate paths? I've found the same
disappointment in general when working with freeforms - I don't know how to
put the points exactly where I want them when drawing or editing.

Copy Excel data to a large table in a ppt slide
I have a large data table in power point, the content of which mainly comes
from excel spreadsheet. I cannot use copy and paste as the table doesn't
exist in excel. I want to build a vba to copy data from excel to power point

Stretching WordArt
In PPT2003 you could stretch text vertically or horizontally - but in 2007
it seems that this function no longer exists - but essentially treats all
text the same - it maintains the proportions of the fonts. This is a big
step backwards if true - despite the great 3-D effects that you can

Hardware acceleration in 2007
I've had PPT 2007 installed on two very powerful laptops but find that
hardware acceleration just doesn't work like it did in 2003.
With HA enabled the result is the same on both computers:
Problem #1: the object animations do not play out in the slide preview -
everything just appears (but play correctly with HA off)
Problem #2: when playing the slideshow HA has no affect on the speed
whatsoever - and is sometimes even slower.
Problem #3: all the object animations are slower with much faster computers
in PPT 2007 than they were with slower computers in PPT 2003
It seems that MS has managed to just break the hardware acceleration
function between versions. I can't be the only one who has this problem.

Need alternative to Pixie
One of the coolest, cutest little utilities, Pixie, accurately and reliably
picks up color on screen and displays RGB and other values. Free, small,
easy...
...and evidently incompatible with Vista, according to two clients who have
tried it.
Can anyone confirm this incompatibility (perhaps there is a workaround), and
if confirmed, has anyone found an alternate product for grabbing color
values from screen images that works with Vista?

Macro won't run in slideshow view
I am in the process of making a game for a meeting resembling Wheel of
Fortune. I was planning on creating a macro for each of the letters of the
alphabet so that when clicking on the letter it automatically poplulates the
letter in the puzzle. The macro will run if i run it from clicking on
tools/macro/macro and clicking run, but they won't work when i add them in
the action setting for the slide show. I've tried both action buttons and
just text and adding the new action setting so that on click it runs the
macro, but they won't run. It underlines the text so i know it recognizes
that there is an action associated with it, but when i click on it from the
slideshow, it won't run. What am i doing wrong!?!?!
I've also tried changing my security to low, but that doesn't make it work

documents, when the CD is run and the hyperlinked button to the PDF is
clicked, a warning appears with "Some hyperlinks contain viruses or.....",

Default shadow settings
Is there a way to change the default shadow settings when I choose a
lower-right drop shadow for example?
I would like to have the default be 0% transparency and 10 for distance. It
is a pain to have to set it for every object I create.
I don't want to use format pickup, because I don't want all the attributes
all the time.
What about other object settings? I assume if there's a way for one then
there's a way for all.
Can this be done in the registry? It has to be getting it's defaults from
somewhere.

When I rest my mouse pointer over something on the ribbon the screen tips
either show up for just a second or not at all. I did check and they are

PPT Online and VISTA
I've posted this before, but can't find the posting or similar questions.
We've had a PPT 2003 presentation on our website for several years. On XP
computers, the presentation automatically opens and plays in full-screen mode
when the link is accessed. On VISTA computers, the PPT opens in the
create/edit mode requiring manual starting. Anyone have any comments or

Power Point Slide show not working correctly
I recently sent a copy of a Power Point slide show, that I had received, to
both my daughters. Both of them are using Windows XP and Office 2007. On one
computer the show runs correctly (as it does on my Windows XP and Office
2003) but on the other it does not show text in a box which "fades in". What
could be causing this? I have opened the file and saved it as html in order
to see what types of files are within the slide show and there are no swf
files which I thought may be causing the problem. The files within are htm,
css, jpg, gif, js, wmf, wav and xml.
