OK ...
I'm pretty sure that if you install the compatibility pack it'll give 2002 the ability to
save in the new 2007 format.
But it's not simple XML, it's a whole host of XML and related files in a series of
folders within a ZIP file.
It might be a great deal simpler to automate PPT and have it spit the same information to
a text file or even an XML file in your own choice of format.

lot, really.
