When I start Powerpoint 2007 I'm prompted by Vistas UAC: "A program needs
your permission to continue (= Powerpoint)". It started after installing the
programs to convert Powerpoint to flash / creating screencast.

I have been testing different tools for producing screencasts and converting
Powerpoint to flash/video. Among them I have bought and installed Adobe
Articultate and Camtasia Studio. Others I have tried is Wondershare
PPT2flash, Articulate Presenter and AuthorPoint.

Now ALL programs have been uninstalled again, but UAC is still prompting
when starting Powerpoint.

The UAC prompt is REALLY REALLY REALLY annoying, so I have cleaned my PC -
with no luck. I have

* uninstalled all relevant programs
* checked for addins in Powerpoint
* checked in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\ADDINS
* checked C:\users\%user%\appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\AddIns
* searched the registry and removed leftover keys and hives
* repaired the Office installation (one hour!)

- and spent to much time on this s+++. I have tried Camtasia support (great
guys), searched http://www.sameshow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3290 (no
answer: "UAC is good!"), sent a question to Adobe support (no answer yet) -
and searched the net.

Where/how to stop the AUC prompt? (and no: I don't want to stop using UAC).

I run Vista Business UK and Office 2007 (DK).

Hope to hear from one of the wizards out there,

Bent

Any idea whether one particular program caused the prompt to start appearing?
That would narrow the focus a bit.

Does the Details button on the UAC prompt give any useful info? What about the
event logs?

Could it be a one-time thing? When you get the prompt, do you allow the
activity to continue?

You mention that you checked addins in PPT. Just to be sure, have you checked
PowerPoint, Office Button, PowerPoint Options, Add-ins to see what's listed?
Is anything left over that shouldn't be?

Hi Steve

Thank you for spending some time to help me on this.

1) Which program? Suspected programs are

suspect a) Wondershare. There were some other bugs and I decided to uninstall.

suspect b) Camtasia. The addin installs a (2003-) commandbar. After
uninstalling, the commandbar is not removed. The addin was removed and the
buttons had lost their function. I deleted the commandbar with some vba code,
and it has not turned up again.

suspects c+) The other programs including Adobe Captivate and authorPOINT
Lite, but maybe also ShortCut manager???

2) The UAC prompt: I click 'Continue' and Powerpoint starts. And this is
does every time. In the detailsbox it says: Microsoft Powerpoint (with
correct path to exe).

3) I checked PowerPoint > Office Button > PowerPoint Options > Add-ins. It
shows
Active addins (empty)
Inactive addins (4 x OFFRHD.DLL in Office12 folder)
Document related addins (empty)
Deactivated addins (empty)

If I go to 'Manage Powerpoint addins' I get the dialog 'Addins', Active
Addins: List is empty. Add new: Open the empty folder in
C:\Users\%user%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\AddIns.

I don't find anything anywhere.

Somehow it could be in the registry database. But where???

Regards, Bent

To tell the truth, they're not very well regarded in these parts, except by their
employees pretending to be satisfied users and spamming the newsgroup.

I think you can let that one go. Dead command bars are harmless and can be deleted
even w/o VBA.

I'm not familiar with the first two; ShortCut Mgrs' author appears here fairly
often. Chirag ... step forward, say hello to the nice gentleman.

OK. The four inactives are from MS; I think they're part of every 2007 install.
Let's set those aside too.

Another reason to yell for Chirag. He's got a VERY nice add-in reporting tool but I
don't know if it's been updated for PPT2007 yet. Ooooohhh CHIRAG?

Under both

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\

check:

\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\PowerPoint\AddIns
\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\PowerPoint\Addins

Hello Steve

Values in registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\PowerPoint\AddIns = nothing
= (Default) / (Value not set)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\PowerPoint\Addins =
nothing = (Default) / (Value not set)

About ShortCut manager: It's a nice tool, but I uninstalled it because it
sometimes just shut down Powerpoint (2007) when I activated a shortcut. So it
would be nice to hear from Chiraq.

Regards, Bent

Bent,

Well, it doesn't look like we found anything there. Drat.

As a reminder, have you tried allowing PPT to continue when it brings up the UAC
prompt? In other words, if you let it do what it wants, once, does it stop
nagging?

Ouch. Painful.

Here's another suggestion: search the registry for "COM" and look for hits that
refer to COM addins and point to PowerPoint. That might help track this guy down.

I have search for COM, Powerpoint, Powerp (and others) in keynames and data.
I find nothing that attracts my attention.

I *could* uninstall/reinstal Office AND Vista - but I can't afford to loose
two days of work to this c***. In my imagination there must exist some
documentation that tells what Powerpoint is doing when starting:

1) Start
2) Read and locate something
3) Do somthing else
4) Check for addins
5) ---
6) If condition y send message to Vista: 'Non secure exe/folder has to be
accessed'
etc.....

It would then ve easy to step through the sequence and find what step is
triggering the UAC. But maybe it is Vista that has some left-over?

Uark!

If you find it, I'd LOVE to see a copy. I don't know of anything like that though.
I'm afraid I'm out of ideas other than perhaps logging in as a new user to see if that
makes a difference.
