Hey,
I have used a lot of the advice on here to export images and text to make a
new slide, but I am having a LOT of trouble exporting the background. Is
there any way at all to export the background? Currently I am creating a new
slide with the same background format as the current slide and then doing a
slide export. The problem with this is that if the background is not a
template, the background is not transfered. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks,
Cameron

Quickest way is to save the slide with the background as an image file =
(png), and then insert that saved image as your background into your new =
slide presentation.

What Michael said, but make sure you insert the picture on the slide master
(View | Master | Slide Master).

How about

Insert, Duplicate Slide
Ctrl+A to select everything on the slide
DELETE key

Now export the slide.

Thanks for the help, all of the tips worked. My question now I guess is, is
there a way to do it programmatically so I dont have to go through each
individual slide and do this? I have used visual basic to do some other work
with pp and it all seems to work really well, but I am having trouble finding
the right code to get at the background.

There's a bit of example code that shows how to do something to every slide in a
presentation here:

Do something to -- every shape on a slide, every slide in a presentation, every
presentation in a folder
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00594.htm

And the "something" in this case would be along the lines of this (straight out
of the air between my ears to you; testing is in order):

Dim oDupeSld as Slide
Dim x as Long
Set oDupeSld = oSld.Duplicate
With oDupeSld
' delete all the shapes on the dupe slide
.Shapes.Range.Delete
' export the dupe slide
.Export [whatever export parameters you're using now]
' delete the dupe slide
.Delete
End With
